   isolagen -- Mikey, 01:14:33 05/27/03 Tue

I really hope that isolagen is the cure for our acne scars!!! My question is
what is the diffrence between isolagen and other fillers?? I know that its
permanent but there are other permanent fillers, if u didn't get any results
with those kinds of fillers wont u get the same kind of results from
  isolagen???

To Peter, Kit, Beth and Mia - Silicone Injections -- Bill, 21:31:42 05/25/03
  Sun

I read the posts below about silicone injections. Mia is exactly correct when
  she talks about silicone.

Liquid Injectable Silicone (LIS) has gotten a bad rap because of the problems
with the silicone breast implants. LIS is actually approved by the FDA for
corneal problems, similar to how Botox was approved for eye spasms yet doctors
  used it to erase wrinkles.

I had acne scars in both cheeks and have successfully used LIS to eliminate
the scars. Micro-droplets of LIS are injected into the scar and, like
collagen, the improvement is immediate. You have to get 3-4 treatments of LIS
as the doctors do not want to overfill the scar area. It is a relative
painless procedure, similar to injections of collagen.

I know of only two doctors who are skilled at using LIS. One is in New York
City and one is in Boston. I live in Ohio and I flew to New York City to see
Dr. David Orentreich. Here is the website for Dr. David and for the doctor in
  Boston who does LIS.

  http://www.orentreich.com/

  http://www.cosmeticdermcenter.com/silicone.htm

The cost is $200 for the office call and $300 for the LIS. The procedure is
relative simply. The doctor talks with you and marks the scars or areas to be
filled. Then a numbing solution is applied. You wait about 20 minutes and then
the doctor does the injections. You'll have a little redness for few days but
that's about it. It's barely noticeably and easily covered with a little
  makeup.

I know silicone is controversial but LIS is a pure, medical grade silicone and
Dr. David Orentreich has been using silicone for years. I would only go to a
doctor who has experience with LIS. The Orentreich web site has a lot of
information and the Boston doctor's web site has some before and after
  pictures.

I'm not promoting either of these doctors. I just wanted to share my
experience with my acne scars. I was a collagen user for years but the expense
and the minimal time that it lasted prompted me to look for something else.
  I'm glad I found LIS.

  Haley/Cortisone -- Maria, 18:50:42 05/25/03 Sun

Hi Haley. Thanks for your response. Just wondering if you've noticed any
difference in the indentations from Avage and CP Serum. Mine really hasn't
improved much and it's been two months since the shot. I am so worried!!!

  Vingegar? -- Holly, 00:41:41 05/25/03 Sun

  Ali,
Do you mean you put straight vinegar on your face to help scarring; or are you
  taking vinegar pills? Thanks.

  Blue - Dr Chu -- Lola, 14:52:02 05/24/03 Sat

Blue, Dr Chu's number is 0208-383-3264. You need to speak with his secretary
Jean on this number. If there is a recorded message, keep trying because you
need to speak with her for an Isolagen appt. He practises at the Hammersmith
Hospital in London. (BTW, Monday is a public holiday here, so don't try till
Tuesday.) Good luck! I have tried all sorts of treatments and I'm hoping this
  will work.

  brad pitt...etc. -- amez, 05:07:44 05/24/03 Sat

i also saw the star magazine when i was at the drugstore today picking up some
diapers for my little one. I was so intrigued by the cover I had to buy it.
Instead of a full pictorial expose that I had hoped for (complete with before
and after pics of the various stages of his battle with cystic acne), it was a
fluff piece about him wanting to get rid of his wrinkles now that he's turning
  40. Whatever. They mentioned that he was shocked when he saw untouched photos
of him for an Japanese company ad. He's rumored to have gotten Restylane
injections, whatever that is. I agree, I do wish people would be honest with
their cures, but this is a disease (like mental illness) that gets no societal
support. Suffice it to say, the dude is one of us.

as an update on topical creme usage... I'm using elicina twice daily along
with cp serum copper peptide drops at night directly on the scars. I also
apply exfol serum in the morning, and occassionally smooth on some emu oil
over the cp serum. Something about the combination is WORKING!!! Whoo Hoo!

New Product "Syprex" - "Sycream" -- Mike Deforest, 06:22:04 05/23/03 Fri

I just found a new product on the net at www.syprex.com. They claim that this
product is finally a product that really works at filling in indented scars
and they have a before and after picture to show you. I am skeptical because I
have tried every product out there including elicina, copper peptides and many
others that don't work - at least not on me... Does anyone know anything about
  this product?

  Please let me know... Thanks

brad pitt and isolagen -- heidi, 09:31:23 05/21/03 Wed

Hi: I believe Brad Pitt used isolagen on his scars. I dont know if anyone
remembers me writing this before but I wrote a big-named male celebrity had
used isolagen, according to Dr Boss and other isolagen representatives. Dr
Boss told me this guy's ( i believe brad pitt) scars were sooo bad they had to
"gel" the lens on the camera when filming him. anyway, dr boss never said brad
pitt but this was the first name that popped in my head because his scars are
now unnoticeable. Yes, isolagen may cost a lot but it is the latest thing on
the market that according to these threads is based on all the techniques that
work: subsicsion, collagen re-growth and Nlite laser. In one of the latest UK
tabloids they have pictures of Elizabeth Hurley up close and guess what? She
has very noticeable ACNE scars. Not the kind you can hide in person - deep
pock marks. But even better is the fact that regardless she is considered one
of the most beautiful women in the world! Keep faith everyone. If they mapped
the whole human genome they can cure acne scars. Lets just hope that isolagen
  is it!

Brad Pitt Secret Plastic Surgery -- Eric, 22:22:10 05/20/03 Tue

  Hey guys-

Today at the drug store where I work, we got in a new shipment of magazines,
and the tabloid headlines on one screamed "Brad Pitt Secret Plastic Surgery".
It has a picture of Brad Pitt going into a doctor's office and the plate on
the door has the center's name (can't remember), but it read "cosmetic
dermatology". Yes, some of these tabloids have to be taken with a grain of
salt, but still it confirms what I have suspected (or should have said
"known") all along... that Brad Pitt has had some severe reconstruction on his
own acne scars... which are now next to invisible, whereas in other films such
as "Fight Club", "Seven", and "Interview with the Vampire", they are very
prominent. I haven't read the article yet, but I am interested anyway... it's
too bad that big movie stars like Brad Pitt don't open up on the techniques
that they use for their acne scars... in his case, I think that Brad Pitt's
agent has denied on many occassions that Brad has had plastic surgery or
resurfacing for his scars, although to me, the results are obvious. Just my
  two cents... :).

John - about Isolagen again -- Maya, 09:18:45 05/20/03 Tue

The doc in the UK performing the Isolagen (Dr Chu) said that Isolagen itself
is unlikely to do the whole job on deep scarring - as part of the Isolagen
package, he also performs subcison and N-lite at no extra charge - I think all
those procedures together will make an enormous impact for deep scars.

John - about Isolagen in the UK -- Maya, 09:10:38 05/20/03 Tue

Isolagen costs £2,500 in the UK if you are a private patient(on the National
Health it's £1,500) For that, you get 3 sets of injections spaced 2 weeks
  apart.

The Dr in the UK who performs this procedure told me that the Isolagen labs
charge him £1,500 to grow the fibroblasts that are needed for this procedure.

Maybe it's cheaper to come to the UK to get this done? Exended holiday?

Isolagen Is Extremely Expensive -- John, 08:06:41 05/20/03 Tue

Hi Guys. Just letting you know tried to find out some thing about Isolagen In
Australia which will be available shortly. Would you believe that for a
serious of one off injections the woman said that the minimum one would expect
to pay is $5000AUD, so if you ask me that is a heap of money for a product
that is yet to prove itself. Given that we would need at least two or three
you are looking at a lot of money.

Also I showed my Doctor (plastic Surgeon) the before and after pictures using
Isolagen from their brochures and he said that they had been done under
different lights and angles for the after shots. Look guys not trying to put a
dampener on this as it could be great, but at those kind of dollars it had
  want to be.

Depressed, worried, and wondering about dermabrasion -- Liz Lee, 07:32:44
  05/20/03 Tue

I am very depressed about my acne scars. I barely leave the house unless it is
necessary. I have been afraid to have anything done because of complications,
but I realize that I cannot live like this anymore. Does anyone have anything
to say about dermabrasion that can help me?

2 Shy AND Jonathan Mortola -- Maya, 06:48:47 05/20/03 Tue

2 Shy - definately - whenever I eat too many carbs, acne flares. Maybe it's
wheat? Maybe it's the gluten in grains?

Jonathan - about the acne lamps - haven't used them myself but I did read some
of the clinical trial research produced by Dr Tony Chu - as I recall, there
was more success with adolescent acne (around 80% I think) than with adult
acne. In the trials, they used BP AND the lamp together for 8 weeks. So I
expect you got to continue using it.

verilux or dermalux acne lamps (red/blue acne therapy) -- jonathan mortola,
  22:16:43 05/19/03 Mon

  Age : 32
  Gender : Male
Country : San Francisco, CA U.S.A

I was wondering if anyone out there in cyberspace has tried the red/blue light
therapy treatment for acne. I recently purchased the Happy Skin Acne Lamp from
Verilux, Inc. and have used it for about three weeks now. I have mild to
moderate acne in my facial area and in the first week of the light treatment
it seemed to aggravate the acne even more. Is this normal????? It also seems
to make my face extremely dry, but it may also be due to the fact that i'm
using a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide lotion on my skin as well. Anyone out there with
any insight on using over the counter medications with red/blue treatment?
Should I stop with the benzoyl peroxide? In addition, the brown spots on my
face appear to be more pronounced after a 15 minute session. Is this also
normal???? On a more positive note, I do notice my skin is less oily than it
was before I used the lamp and it is also somewhat relaxing as well. Looking
forward to any response regarding the red/blue or clear light acne treatment.
  Thanks!

  CitySlicker -- cb, 20:46:13 05/19/03 Mon

  City:

Thanks for the update. Glad your getting results with FT and Cool Touch II.
Slow and steady wins the race. Speaking of slow and steady, I wish Isolagen
were done and approved already. I hope there are no hang ups in the
trial/approval process. Then again when it is approved It's not like it will
be immediately available. One will need to find an Isolagen trained Dr. in
  their area, cells reproduced, ect.

I guess the good thing about all of this is that several are currently going
through this procedure in the UK. We can look forward to hearing about their
results. Some anecdotal reports are already coming in.

Interested in hearing what Dr. Rullan tells you as well. He seems like a Dr.
in favor of peels oppossed to ablative laser when treating scars. If you see
this, please ask him if he has done exoderm multiple times for scar patients,
and the results. I know Steve/Kit were not overly impressed with their results
from one treatment. Then again, I don't know if they'd want to endure multiple
  tx's of exoderm?

Best of luck to you and safe travels!

  Thread Veins -- 2 Shy, 19:33:44 05/19/03 Mon

I have noticed that after a bad cyst, I can often get a nest of thread veins
appear around the area. After 25 years of this problem my whole face looks red
and blotchy mostly because of these tiny little veins.

My question is does anyone else find this, and if so have you ever tried laser
  treatment to remove these.

PS: Recently heard that some doctors believe that carbohydrates may be quite
an important feature in Acne. Anyone else tried a low carb diet and noticed an
  improvement?

Epione Skin Clinic -- LA, 18:30:22 05/19/03 Mon

  this week.

   Leandro / Update -- Cityslicker, 15:54:37 05/19/03 Mon

Leandro, Isologen is still undergoing testing in the U.S. and will be starting
3rd Phase Trials soon. It is unknown at this time, when it will be approved.
The customer rep. at Isologen stated it may be later this year or early next
year, still too early to say definatively. They are working with the FDA and
you know how slow the wheels of progress move within our beloved government.

It's been about 5 weeks since my Cooltouch II and Fat Injections, I'm still
very pleased with the Fat Injections, though, I did lose about 50% as
projected, I also gained 50% improvement in my depressed cheek areas. Also,
the areas treated with Cooltouch II, I notice filling in slightly every week
and have seen the pore size shrink too. Overall have about 35% improvement
with all the treatments I've done combined, Subscision, Needling, Fat
Injection, and Cooltouch II. I still have large pores and some fingernail
indents that have only responded slightly, but have noticed an appreciable
difference in several other scars. With over a 100 different large pores, ice
pick, pock marks, depressed cheeks, fingernail indents, etc., I'm just happy
to be reporting progress and it is helping my self esteem considerably.

I have an appointment with Dr. Rullan for Exoderm consult Wed., May 21,03. And
then the next week May28,03 will be getting another Fat Transfer Injection and
Cooltouch II. Keep the faith, and I wish you all the best. :-) Cityslicker

Subsicion in New Zealand -- Donna, 01:37:53 05/18/03 Sun

Hi everyone. I have been seeing more and more about Subsicion and wondered if
anyone who lives in New Zealand knows if there are any derms who do it here. I
  live in Auckland.

  Thanks very much!

  CT - abbey -- kook, 20:44:21 05/17/03 Sat

I used the CT II, the difference between I and II is apparently the width of
the laser beam. So you effectively get more coverage in a shorter period of
time. My doc also told me that CT II was more effective for acne scarring but
I personally couldn't tell ya since I've never had treatments with CT I.

I'd save your money...it can be expensive for what little results you get out
of it. I started seeing some results after the 4th treatment, spaced one month
apart. I had a total of 5 sessions. Think you need to do it every couple of
months for maintenance because my scars are still there. I think it may have
helped a little though because my skin is softer, not a bumpy where the scars
  were.

If I were to do CT again, I'd probably do it in conjunction with some other
procedure like subcision or needling or filler.

  Cooltouch -- Abbey, 17:52:07 05/17/03 Sat

Does anyone know the difference between Cooltouch and Cooltouch II? The
aesthetician I spoke with assured me that Cooltouch would clear up my scars,
but I've read that Cooltouch II is actually more effective for acne scarring.
Any experiences you have all had would really help me decide if I want to
invest in this procedure or save my money for something more effective.

  Hi Amy -- Dan, 04:54:01 05/16/03 Fri

Amy, Your message made me laugh =) I am glad that you are not bitter about
your acne/scars. Accutane rocks..I took it when I was 19 and it actually helps
with the scarring and clears up your face of acne quite nicely. A few side
effects (dry skin/lips, a little fallout of hair..but will grow back when you
are off it), can't be pregnant and no alcohol consumption while you're on it
(this really sucks when you are in COLLEGE! but so does acne).

I personally found that it was the only thing that cleared up my skin and
pretty quickly. No topical solution, peels or antibiotics could do the trick
  but Accutane worked for me.

  Heidi - Isolagen -- Lola, 21:16:35 05/15/03 Thu

Heidi, thank you for sharing the news. I hope isolagen works as well for all
  of us!

Mia and Very Depessed -- Peter, 18:36:32 05/15/03 Thu

  Mia,
Glad to hear that fillers really work, but stinks that most of them do not
last very long!! That's why I am very hopeful that Isolagen can really live up
to the hype. I was curious though as to how much correction you have seen with
pitted scars with fillers? Do the scars come completely up to normal skin
level thus making the scar almost completely invisible to the untrained eye? I
have,as I am sure many others have as well, puled back my cheeks to see what
it would look like without the scars. Would you say you see this much
improvement? Thanks for any information you can give back.

  Depressed Individual,
Hey man trust me we have all been there. Not a day goes by that I don't wish
that I had perfect skin again. You just have to hang in there and know that
there is a purpose behind all this. I honestly believe that in some way it is
going to help us in some part of our lives. YOu just have to keep living your
life!!! That is a war you CAN'T lose. Good luck and keep the faith!!!

'Fade Out', 'Skin Culture', 'Accutane' and other advice / questions... -- Amy,
  12:09:40 05/15/03 Thu

I tried the skin culture 4000, to whoever was asking and yes downtime was
around 2 weeks. I locked myself away in my tiny flat with around 5 days worth
of food. I emerged 1.5 weeks later, starving and with bits of skin still
peeling off and no improvement in acne scars.

I now use isotrex gel (mainly to keep the oilyness of my skin down) I'm not
sure if it has improved my acne scarring, as I still get enough acne to have
my face littered with scars and acne (which stays for around a month before it
even gets to the stage where its a scar rather than acne).

I also use something called 'Fade Out' over the counter (UK, dunno if its
available or what its called in US) costs around £5 a tub and claims to fade
freckles and sun spots. The doctor reommended it for acne scarring. I have
only been using it 1.5 months and they suggest 10 weeks to see results. I have
  already noticed improvement tho :)

Also, I was considering going on accutane as I am fed up of not being able to
answer the door to the postman without 5 inches of make up on. And having a
boyfriend for 2 weeks and always having the lights off when my make up may
have rubbed off then at some point them seeing me in the light with no make up
and making some comment (in a concerned way) about my skin, and the
relationship falling apart over the next few weeks and them looking at me
differently as they relise it isnt a temporary thing. For the last 5 years I
have tried everything else, always in 2 months 'whatever product' will have
worked and nightmare will be over. Of course it never was. Is it worth doing
accutane or will it make my skin much worse first and give me lots of new
  scars?

Don't let acne ruin your life. Constantly remind yourself that there is a
beautiful world out there with so much to offer, and letting acne control your

That's great news!! Thanks for reporting that. I phoned Dr Chu's office today
to find out when I would get an appointment - looks like it will be in about 5
weeks or so. Then I'll have to wait for the Isolagen to develop so will be

  isolagen -- heidi, 13:24:17 05/14/03 Wed

Lola Maya and other people trying isolagen:

Ok here is the best news yet. The other day I called to talk to DR Chu and I
ended up talking to Dr Chu's secretary for a couple of minutes about my
appointment times etc. Anyway, she said the isolagen appears to be working
really well on patients she has seen. I asked if they were for acne scarring
and she said yes - all of them are because Dr Chu is not a cosmetic
dermatologist. She also said she had not seen this one patient, but over the
phone the patient said she could actually see her skin improving. All I have
to say is thank god or whoever you thank. We all need something to look
forward to and I believe this is it! Yanks and the rest of the world you will
have to wait for approval but it appears the wait will be worth it!

response to depressed -- amez, 05:21:32 05/14/03 Wed

Just skimmed the board and saw your post. Listen, I hear you (as we all do I'm
sure). I used to be beautiful too, in all kinds of lighting! Though I've had
acne for 15 years, I was able to cover most breakouts with makeup, or because
it was cystic, it could not be detected (surely that huge lump on her chin
can't be a pimple!). Now that I've gotten rid of the acne via accutane, I'm
faced with enourmous scars that I know everyone notices.

I with I could tell you the miracle potion to get rid of them. I'm still
working on perfecting my regimen of scar reversal creams. I just got the
copper peptides so I'm excited to try this. I sounds like needling is
promising after reading some of the results from people using this method.

By the way, I just got dumped for a smooth-skinned beauty by the father of my
one and a half year old son. Believe me I am pissed, and do feel that acne
scarring played a part in him choosing her over me, but I refuse to let this
ruin my life. As we figure out how to even out our scars, maybe we can all
look at the affliction as a way to weed out the weak and shallow.

  Hang in there!

Nancy - about Skin Culture Peels -- Maya, 01:02:11 05/14/03 Wed

I used it around 2 years ago and it was disgusting!! The down time was around
2 weeks (although they will tell you it's one week) - it didn't help with
scarring at all (or acne) In fact, it made my skin sore and red for a few
months. The website with its fantastic testimonials are misleading. There have
been threads on other forums about skin culture, and in the main, they were
  negative.

  Maria/ Cortisone -- haley, 13:35:35 05/13/03 Tue

  Hey,
I am having the cortisone indention problem also. Mine appeared much sooner,
about 1 week after the shot. It did start to change some in appearance 1 week
later. Everyone is saying that these are not permenant, but the healing wait
is like 5-6 months. I am in such a hurry to get rid of this thing. My derm is
trying "Avage" to plump up the indention some and I have order the CP serum
from skin Biology, which has copper peptides that are supposed to help. I was
the one who was looking for info about ther saline, but nobody thus far seems
to know about it. I am so mad at myself for getting that shot!

  Denise!! -- Maya, 22:30:04 05/12/03 Mon

Yes, you're right of course, but I really don't feel I will get the kind of
improvement I want if I wait another few months. Some of my pits are really
deep and are right in the centre of my cheeks, so are very noticeable.

I am waiting to get my appointment scheduled with Dr Chu who performs a
combination of subcsion, n-lite and isolagen - I think that combination is a
  real winner.

I'm kind of nervous about it because I am scared it may not work for me.

I am really amazed at how well the needling worked for you. Trouble is, my
needling aesthetician didn't use a tatoo gun and only needled into the pits -
  maybe it was the technique?

I love the emu oil by the way and the manuka gel!! I've bought some Manuka
honey today just to eat!! :)

How long after cortisone shots do indentations appear? -- Maria, 21:17:34
  05/12/03 Mon

I received a cortisone shot in my right cheek for an acne cyst at the end of
March. About two weeks ago (about three or four weeks after the shot), I
developed a large dent in my cheek. It cannot even be covered with makeup. My
dermatologist said it would go away. She also used a laser to try to alleviate
the redness; however, the dent looks larger every day. Does anyone know if
it's normal for the indentation to come up four weeks after the shot? Also,
someone mentioned saline shots? Has anyone tried them? Thanks in advance...

   Maya -- Denise1, 18:51:46 05/12/03 Mon

Hey Girlie....I'll write you a personal note after posting this to make sure
  you see it.

I believe that you should wait for more collagen stimulation before deciding
that you only have a 30% improvement. I believe you only got your first
needling done around March 8 or 9, right? And you just got your second one. My
understanding is that collagen would probably still be in the formation stage.
Remember that lady with the deep lines above her upper lip on the environ
website (Dr. Des Fernandez)? She thought she should get it re-done at 3
months, but couldn't get to Dr. Des Fernandez and after 8-9 months, the lines
were all the way filled in and she didn't even need a second treatment.

I remember that guy in the military, and also Karen and others who all say
that they thought that the needling hadn't even done that much until after 6-8
weeks or so. You really oughta wait until the end of July or whatever before
deciding that your improvement was at 30%.

  silicone -- heather, 05:28:42 05/12/03 Mon

  Mia,

My opinion is that I'd never get silicone injected into my face. A year or two
ago there was a lady that visited this board searching for a way to treat
lumps in her face that resulted from silicone injections she had gotten a
decade before. It's a permanent filler, so any problems that result, such as
scarring or lumps are also going to be permanent. Skin cells attach around the
microbeads, making it impossible to remove the silicone without also removing
  healthy cells.

What's going to happen when your collagen thins from aging? I think you could
end up with lumps and bumps. If there were no other options, silicone might be
acceptable, but there is isolagen and a couple of newer human collagen fillers
which last longer than the old bovine collagen fillers.

Peter, Kit, and Beth -- Mia, 22:16:07 05/11/03 Sun

Beth: thanks for the info and websites. I spoke with someone who does various
methods of needling and is he is going to send me pics. I'm also going to
discuss it with my derm colleagues to get there opinion.

Kit and Peter: Silicone has a bad wrap b/c of the landmark lawsuit soo many
years ago with leaking breast implants possibly causing connective tissue
disorder and also with inappropriate use by untrained practitioners and the
practice of adultering the chemical. But in its pure form and when injected by
a skilled physician, it is very effective as a filler. If you've ever used
collagen and liked its results, then you will get the same with silicone if
not BETTER and it is PERMANENT!! Unfortanely, it is currently not FDA-approved
and cannot be offered to the general public. I think this will change in the
near future as it is rapidly being reaccepted in the medical profession, esp
derm, as an excellent filling agent. Of course, it has side effects, but many
are rare and most are reversible.

Mia and the Depressed Individual -- Peter, 21:00:35 05/11/03 Sun

  Mia,
Glad to hear that fillers really work, but stinks that most of them do not
last very long!!

  Mikey -- Maya, 17:25:38 05/11/03 Sun

I have Asian skin - not quite sure what type. I am half Chinese and half
Indian, so you can imagine the mix! :)

Yes, the hyperpigmentation doesn't last long, but using something like 50%
lactic peels (they have no down time) every week (start 2 weeks after
needling) gets rid of them within a few weeks. You can get them at

www.homepeels.com

Also, my latest discovery is dabbing the skin with diluted apple cider vinegar
(1 part vinegar to 3 parts water) and this also helps remove pigmentation!!
Also restores the skins PH balance.

  needling-question to maya -- Mikey, 14:41:52 05/11/03 Sun

Thanks maya for your response, so your saying that the hyperpigmentation will
dissapear givin time and the use of peelng agents. What type skin do u have
meaning do u have IV, V or VI type skin??

Mikey - about needling pigmentation marks -- Maya, 06:44:54 05/11/03 Sun

I have Asian skin - and I found that needling 'good' / unscarred skin caused
pigmentation marks, but not so if just needling in the pits. After a few
weeks, you can use a glycolic or lactic peel to help with this anyway, so
pigmentation is not a big issue.

   Isolagen -- Maya, 06:39:45 05/11/03 Sun

Has anyone here actually had Isolagen injected into their scars yet?

Melzy - needling in the UK - and Hi!!!! to Lola & Denise :) -- Maya, 06:32:44
  05/11/03 Sun

You can get needling done in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire. I've had it done
  twice. Bio2Clinic 01926 424666 - Julie Arnold.

I've had an overally 30% improvement - not as good as Denise but I think it's
because I am 40 and my collagen growth is slow (having smoked for many years..
in the process of giving up though. If you mention my name to Julie, she will
NOT charge you the initial consultation fee. Each needlign session is around
  £250

I am going to see Dr Chu in London in the next few weeks and discuss
subcision, N-Lite and Isolagen with him. Some of my pits are really deep, so I
do need a combination of other treatments. Lola has inspired me to do this.

  Good luck

  Maya

  Needling -- Mikey, 01:13:51 05/11/03 Sun

I was wondering if needling would cause hyperpigmentation on the skin??? Has
anybody with darker skin such as latino or asian had this procedure done?

We all share your pain -- Antz, 00:37:30 05/11/03 Sun

Depressed, you are not alone, if that makes any difference to you. There are
so many of us totally devestated by this, in a world that seemingly ignores
our plight and has provided us with poor treatment options. To have faith,
much better ways of treating scars are arriving all the time. Just look at
Isolagen, and the latest advances in lasers. What have you tried so far? Its
important to have a plan and be determined to try everything before giving up
  hope.

I had perfect skin 2 years ago. I was considered beautiful and had men asking
me out all the time. Now I have scars on my chin nose and around my mouth that
are really bad and no-one is interested in me so I know how you feel. I have
been near suicidal for many months and I decided to try everything and pay
whatever cost to improve my skin. I know it will never be perfect, but to get
it to 80 or 90% would be a dream come true. I've already had one CO2
resurfacing procedure which has improved my scars about 20% and I'm about to
have a second treatment which should get me up to a 50-60% iprovement. Then
I'm going to break the bank and try the new Isolagen treatment which I've
heard has amazing long lasting results.

  There is hope, keep fighting!

Depressed about my scars :-( -- Depressed, 23:37:51 05/10/03 Sat

I have been following this message board for alittle over 6 months looking for
some kind of hope that a treatment exsist that will return my skin back to
normal but I have yet to find one. Why have we been cursed with these scars???
Its soo hard to live day after day looking at my face and seeing the
devistation that acne has brough upon me. I use to be a good looking guy Im
6"5 Asian with perfect skin about 1 year and a half ago. I didn't have much
problems with the ladies, infact I was going out with the most beautiful
redhead you could ever see. But as I was with her my acne got worse and worse
yet she stayed with me. Then it started to scar and that was when she left me.
I dont blame her, why would she go out with a deformed guy. She can do soo
much better than me :-( I have scars on both cheeks and some on my temple. As
I write this tears are going down my face, Im feeling soo sorry for myself and
mad at the same time. How could I let this happen to me? Why did I let acne
ruin my life? I no longer get acne because of accutane but taking it has left
me with even more scars. I really hope that one day a cure comes along that
will give us all perfect skin, maybe we can get our lives back. I know im not
alone in ths endeviour but why me?? why me?? I will fight this with all my
heart........with everything I have..... but if i dont win........then why
  should i keep living?????

  Smoothbeam Laser -- Raishma, 21:09:22 05/10/03 Sat

Hi everyone. I recently stumbled onto this site. I am so glad to have found
it. It is so wonderful to have a support network like this. I am 28 years old
and suffer from acne scarring. I have tried many treatments in the past. I had
Subcision and N-Lite last year with disappointing results. The scars are
mainly on my cheeks and chin. There are a few around my mouth that especially
bother me. I am currently receiving microdermabrasion treatments by a licensed
esthetician. I have not noticed any appreciable improvment as yet. I am
considering having the Smoothbeam Laser treatments. According to what I have
read, Smoothbeam has been FDA approved recently for the treatment of acne and
acne scarring. It supposedly "shrinks" the oil glands and stimulates collagen
production. The pictures on the website are impressive. My face is also very
oily, even more reason for considering the Smoothbeam treatments. I was
wondering if anyone ever had this treatment done and what their results were
like. The total cost of the treatment is approximately $1600. I think at least
4 treatments are recommended ($400 per treatment). Thanks for your time.

  To Mia -- kit, 09:00:08 05/10/03 Sat

  Hi Mia,
We are glad that someone with this area of expertise can come in and share
information. I do agree that fillers are one of the good options out there.
But people had complaint about using silicone before and do you really think
that silicone can be approved? And you have mentioned that silicone is not
suitable for ice-picks, so what is it good for then? By the way, what do you
think of Isolagen? what about cosmoplast?

Anyway, do look through what Beth has said about needling. We really hope you
can give some professional advice. Thanks.

First of all, I really need to apologise that I don't usually read the mails
often. To me, this is a very tense place, and everytime when I feel down, i
will come in....so you know, I'm feeling down right now again...

Eric, Sandovall - thanks for your information.

Steve, there is no phase 2 or 3 in Israel. The doc mentioned it is actually a
dangerous thing to do something extra on the already thin skin after deep
exoderm. So i wonder how safe could it be if there is chemabrasion? Anyway, I
don't know how much I can trust the doc on this so if there is really a good
phase 3 or 2, then it will be fine for you.

Denise1 - I am so HAPPY for you. Never have I heard of someone who had done
needling received such good results. Keep on telling us your success and
updates. I really hope to receive more good news from this board....

.... so that I will come in often then. :)

  chemical peels -- Nancy, 00:19:50 05/10/03 Sat

  Hi everyone,

I have some indented scars on my checks that im greatly frustrated with. After
reading Pam's post about dermabrasion i think im going to stay away from that
procedure. I was hoping to get some insights about the effectiveness of
chemical peels on acnes scars and which ones worked the best? Ive read about
TCA and phenol and etc. but is not quite sure. Im currently getting
microdermabrasion but is not really seeing any results. Now im considering
other methods such as chemical peels
and just wanted to know which would work?
  thanks

  Denise1 & Mia - RE: Needling -- Beth, 13:11:54 05/09/03 Fri

Hey, Denise! I am soooo happy for you! I don't know if you mentioned this in a
previous post--but where did you go to have the needling done? I talked to a
girl on another board who went to the place I was planning on going, but her
results were nothing like yours. Perhaps it is because the people at this
other place use something called a soft-tap tool instead of a regular tattoo
gun. I think it is supposed to be a gentler approach, which perhaps my
  sensitive skin needs.

  To: Mia
The idea of needling for scars was stumbled upon when doctors conducting scar
re-pigmentation treatments discovered that the tattooing process actually
helped to repair the scar/skin under the ink.

Several people on this board (and other message boards) have tried this
treatment using either a permanent makeup specialist or a tattoo artist. I
have heard almost nothing but good reports regarding the results from this
procedure. It is also very cheap. People who have spent hundreds and thousands
of dollars on other (more risky) cosmetic treatments have found their scars
disappearing after only one or two $100 sessions at a tattoo salon. I don't
think the big cosmetic surgery industry wants to acknowledge this (or) perhaps
they have not gotten wind of the news yet.

   fillers -- Mia, 04:25:53 05/09/03 Fri

I'm a resident physician, and have suffered from acne scarring most of my
adult life. Having access to new procedures and techniques while in training,
I have tried a number of things. The best thing I've seen thus far, are
fillers. Collagen isn't permanent, but silicone is. I believe it it shortly to
be FDA-approved for skin defects and scars. I've tried it myself and I think
it works well. It doesn't, however, work for ice pick scars. On this message
board, I've been reading a lot about needling, but this is not well addressed
in the medical profession. Who does this, and what level of improvement has
there been with this new method? Specifically, who does this in the Greater
  Tampa Bay area?

How deep and wide were your pitted scars? Are you still pink or red from your
  procedure?

Denise: The pitted scars were small but very bad and very noticeable. They
look just like holes in my face. Nope, not pink or red at all. That went away
after about a week with the copper peptides and emu oil.

Did you need to give your tatoo person instructions on how to do this or did
he/she just know how deep to go? I am wondering how deep is "deep"?

Denise: I wouldn't know the first thing about how to handle a tatooing
instrument and I was flat on my back, so I couldn't tell you anything about
what she did procedural wise. She already knew about the procedure and had
been trained in it. I would think that they would have to go deep enough to
break up the scar tissue, and that's all I know.

I want to get trained in this so I can help people with scars myself. But
until such time as I know what I'm doing, I would say that I don't know much
about the pressure that is applied.

   3 Week Update -- Denise1, 15:17:14 05/08/03 Thu

Well, tomorrow will be the 3 week mark regarding my needling and here's what I
have to report. I am very pleased with my progress. The small icepicks that
always bugged the heck out of me are doing excellent. I have a plethora...at
least 30-40 of the tiny pinprick stretched out pore thingie type scars; some
deeper, some bigger than others, but I had a whole bunch of them. There were
certain places where I had several together in a row. For example I had 5 of
them all in a row on my cheek. Whenever I put on makeup, it looked like I had
holes in my face. Now 3 of them are filled up to the point of being tiny
slits. I expect them to be totally gone probably soon. My husband is blown
away. He is very impressed. I went in and sat on the bed last night and told
him how happy I was and he looked closely at my scars and he was amazed.

All scars that were needled are filling in nicely. The places where she was
the lightest have no change, really. I asked her to do some small lines
between my eyes and they didn't bleed or scab over that much, but turned red
and lightly peeled. I don't see much change at all in them. She really hit the
frown lines on my forehead BIGTIME. The bottom one is gone, the top one and
  deepest one is ALMOST gone.

Overall, this is the best $100 I have ever spend on treating my scars. I look
at the changes in my scars day by day and I want to go run outside and scream:
HEY, LOOK AT MY ACNE SCARS FILLING IN!!

So keep in mind a few things for people considering needling.

You definately should get some copper peptides and emu oil to facilitate
healing and collagen stimulation. You should definately add either a retinoid
or vitamin c (topical) after your scabs fall off. That is what Dr. Des
Fernandez says is key to keeping collagen stimulation going.

A thought I have about people who have seen "mixed results" is this. After
seeing how on my own face the fact that the places that weren't penetrated
deeply by the tatooing instrument aren't responding hardly at all, I would
have to say that perhaps this is why some people have gotten little/mixed/no
results. I have always read where people have stated that the more
bleeding/scabbing, the better the filling in of the scar. I would surmise that
this is because the scar tissue is being broken down more.

These are just my thoughts on the matter. I'm going to ask that the small
lines between my eyes get hit again, and I'm going to ask her to go deeper
  next time.

Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised and believe that this is the best news for
acne scar sufferers in a long time.

Godspeed to everyone, and if anyone has any questions, please scroll down and
read other posts on this topic along with the links I posted about needling.
No offense, but it gets redundant after a while to answer the same questions
  over and over.

Take care everyone, I'll continue to give weekly updates. Right now, I'm VERY
  HAPPY.

Dr. Knize in Denver -- Tom, 00:33:05 05/08/03 Thu

I went to see Dr. Knize in Denver today to ask if he was considering the use
of artecoll injections when it comes out. Since I saw his name on this chat
group I thought I'd give him a shot. I'm excited about artecoll because I've
been waiting all my life for something like it. Dr. Knize more or less said to
stay away from it because it's permanent. I'm thinking "permanent" is what
I've been waiting for. He basically charged me an office visit for totally
depressing me. I found him to be totally condescending and arrogant as well.
Also, I mentioned collagen and he said that with collagen there's risk of mad
cow disease. Has anyone ever heard of somebody getting mad cow disease from
collagen injections? I'm sure it's possible, but then so is anything.
Basically, he didn't really wish to talk about scar revision short of the
knife. For anyone living in the Denver area, I would suggest you save your
money and NOT go to this guy. He gave me the creeps.

solutions for bumpy scars -- nella, 17:46:57 05/07/03 Wed

Hi. I'm new to this website and am not familiar with many of the terms and
treatments I saw on it. I have questions about what to do for the bumpy scars
on my chin. I will give some background information: I started getting mild
acne about six years ago, when I was 18, mostly around my chin and lip, though
a little bit everywhere. I had good skin as an adolescent though that was also
supplemented by overuse of antibiotics (erithromycin and later tetracycline)
which i didn't realize was unhealthy at the time. when i started getting bad
skin at 18 (after having been off antibiotics for a while) i didn't want to
take anything for it--i felt antibiotics and accutane were to harsh on the
  system.

Now I take herbs for my skin (perscribed by a chinese herb
doctor/accupuncturist) and they help minimize breakouts though i still break
out more than i want to. i also notice differences based on my diet.

after years i finally realized that i was getting acne from pulling out hair
(by the root) around my chin and mouth (and the chin hair had started at age
18 when my acne did). i bleach the hair on my lip now now and hardly ever get
pimples there, which is great. but i can't bleach the hair on my chin because
it's too thick, so i shave it every other day which does not seem to cause a
lot of irritation/breakouts but i'm sure my skin would be better if i didn't
have to do it. but i'm a woman who doesn't want hair on her chin and i don't
fully trust laser hair removal because it is so new--if anybody has any
experiences with that i would love to hear about them. (i've been tested for
polycystic so that doesn't seem to be the issue, my grandmother also had hair
  on her face.)

my main question is what to do about the scars. i have hope for them, but want
to act while they're still relatively young. some nights i rub lemon on my
face (i know it's not good to go out in sun with it on) and that really fades
the red spots a lot. does anybody know if this kind of exfoliation is
  dangerous?

i have some bumpiness around my chin which bothers me. i don't have much
indentation i don't think, i think it is more raised bumps. i've been using
derma e scar gel (though perhaps not diligently enough) and don't know if it's
helping. can someone reccommend a great product, or a great solution of some
sort? i'm overwhelmed and underwhelmed at the options out there and want to
heal my skin. many thanks for reading this, and for your help. If you want to
reply via email, please do. Thanks.

  Haley/Cortisone -- Tanya, 22:42:15 05/06/03 Tue

  Haley,
I am so vain that I actually considered going to Canada to get Artecoll, and I
even consulted with a dermatologist; unfortunately, everyone says that the
indentations will fill in and that I should not have any procedures done. They
said that if it begins to fill in (since it is not a true depressed scar) and
you get collagen injected that you could be left with a bulge for a few
months. I decided that these babies look like dimples (although I hate them),
but a bulge would look like a cyst and that would be harder for me to handle.
Good luck and believe me I know how you feel. I am on my second day of
  accutane, and talk about impatience!!

   Indented scars -- Mark, 19:23:11 05/06/03 Tue

  Hi:

Anybody have any luck with products for indented scars? They look like
  fingernail marks.
  Thanks,
  Mark

P.S. Microdermabrasion did no good at all, in fact made some pores enlarged.

Thanks Tanya for sharing your experience. Have you read anything about
injecting saline into the atrophy to start the healing process. Or have you
read anything about collagen injections into this type of indentation? I need
to get rid of this thing and I am so impatient...thanks so much!

  Hi All,
Regarding Dr. Scheibner, I have it on good authority that she will not be

Copper Peptides and Acne Scars -- Eric, 21:24:13 05/05/03 Mon

  Hi everyone-

I just wanted to report for you guys on what I have been hearing lately about
Skin Biology's Copper Peptides and acne scar reduction. The basic system
usually consists of Skin Biology's Exfol/Serum cream in the morning followed
by CP Serum/Tri-Reduction cream in the evening. Although I am not using the
Skin Biology products at the moment until I can get rid of my acne, I have
been visitng the DelphiForums skin biology forum and have been listening to
what other people are saying. There are many people on the forum with old acne
scars, included pitted ice pick scars who seem to be having very good success
in minimizing them. Most of them are using glycolic acid peels from 30-50%
once or in some cases twice weekly, and they are using the newer, stronger
copper peptide products such as Super Cop Cream, or Super Cp Serum, which was
specifically designed to treat acne scars. Keep in mind that this is an
aggressive regime (which I myself am too chicken to undertake ;).)... as
improper use of acid peels can cause burning... however, the results are
equally impressive, with improvement of 60-70% in some cases in just a few
months! The new copper peptide products are great improvements over the old
ones that some people here have tried without much success. Dr. Pickart, the
creator of the Skin Biology product line, warns that in some cases, scar
tissue can be very tough and resistant to low level hyrdoxys such as the Exfol
Serum, and in this case, stronger hydroxys are necessary to break down the
scar tissue so that the copper peptides can rebuild the normal skin. So, for
maximal effect, a stronger hydroxy acid such as a 30% or higher glycolic
combined with a strong copper peptide product such as Super CP Serum or Super
Cop works best to remove scars. Of course, some people get success using the
milder Skin Biology products... in which case, stick with it!

Best of luck to all in helping get rid of their scars, by whatever method
works best for you. BTW, Denise, have you tried to new stronger Super CP
Serum? It is supposedly much stronger than the original, and could be even
more useful for post-needling healing... if your skin can tolerate it.

  -Eric

  Scheibner -- Laura, 07:42:54 05/05/03 Mon

To those who have written lately regarding Dr. Adrianna Scheibner, her scar
revision laser techniques, book, etc: A number of scar victims living in
California have been waiting for months on end for the purported return of
Scheibner, to So. California, which was supposedly to have happened by late
  March. It's now May.

She certainly seems like the guru of laser scar treatment, but how relevant is
that if no one can get an appointment with her short of flying to Sydney? AND
such techniques typically require multiple treatments - 5 or 6 times over. The
expense of flying to Syndey from the states 6 times over would be in the many
thousands of dollars BEFORE treatment costs are even factored in.
  Disappointing, to say the least.

Has anyone been able to get a clear answer as to when she is supposed to
  finally return to So. Cal???

   Scar Misery!!!!!! -- MELZY, 02:15:11 05/04/03 Sun

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT "NEEDLING" AS THIS IS A PROCEDURE I HAVE NEVER
HEARD OF. I HAVE BEEN BATTLING THE EFFECTS OF HAVING SIGNIFICANT FACIAL
SCARRING, WHICH UP TO PRESENT DAY HAS BEEN APPROXIMATELY 15 years. THESE WERE
BROUGHT ABOUT BY SEVERE CYSTIC ACNE WHICH GOT OUT OF CONTROL BEFORE I COULD
SEE A DERMATOLOGIST AND WAS PRESCRIBED ROACCUTANE(u.k), I AM STILL CONTINUALLY
DEPRESSED AND SELF-CONCIOUS ABOUT THESE AND IT VERY MUCH AFFECTS MY
SELF-ESTEEM AND EVERYDAY LIFE. I HAVE A BOYFRIEND WHO SAYS IT DOESNT BOTHER
HIM, BUT IT BOTHERS ME. SOMETIMES I DONT WANT TO GO OUT OR EVEN LEAVE THE
HOUSE, I START TO THINK PEOPLE ARE STARING AT ME! I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW OF MORE
AMERICAN TREATMENTS AND MORE ABOUT THE COPPER PEPTIDE CREAMS FROM SKIN BIOLOGY
ETC. I VERY MUCH WOULD LIKE TO HEAR OF PEOPLES EXPERIENCES WITH DIFFERENT
TREATMENTS AND PRODUCTS THAT THEY HAVE TRIED AND HAD SUCCESSES WITH. I AM A
38YEAR OLD FEMALE AND I LIVE IN DERBY, IN THE UNITED KINGDOM. HOPE TO HEAR
  FROM YOU ALL VERY SOON.

thanks for the feedback -- amez, 20:03:01 05/03/03 Sat

thanks about the copper peptides info. Sounds like it works for some, not for
others, like every other treatment I suppose. After hearing about needling
doing random internet searches for scar healing, I did call around to local
(live in sarasota, fl) derms and plastic surgeons. Not one, and I called about
ten, had heard of either subcision or needling for scar reversal. Are there
other names for this procedure, maybe?

My worst scarring is near my smile lines so that adds to the battle of
healing. I guess that's the problem with facial scars in general--the area's
always moving. Damn life can be unfair sometimes. But, here's to keeping our
chins up as we disover cures. Speaking of cures, any more topical remedies
that have been useful to folks?

  thanks,

  To Haley/Cortisone -- Tanya, 19:52:39 05/03/03 Sat

  Haley,
I have also experienced three cortisone injection disasters; it has been four
months, and they are just now starting to gradually fill in. I have read
everything, and there is nothing to do but wait for them to fill in
themselves. I was told by my dermatologist it usually takes 6 months.
Unfortunatley, the cortisone crystals stay in the system for up to three
months. I get acne only on my chin, and I have decided to do accutane because
I can no longer get cortisone, and I am tired of the cysts breaking my skin.
  Good luck!

My scars are the sunken kind and were very deep to start. What type of scars
are yours ; how bad and how old are your scars? I do use some super cp serum
also along with the creams now ---- they sent the serum as a free sample so I
decided use it some in my program. I post at delphiforums as catlover2003. I
post there a lot and I tend to ramble on too much when I do. Perhaps you post
there also? Eve , who posts at delphiforums ,also has posts here.

My name is bob also and I've also been also using copper peptides form
skinbiology for 4 months. I've mostly used the cream forms ----- trireduction
cream and super cop cream and exfol cream directly onto the scars.I don't know
if the copper peptide serums work as good. I also use 30% glycolic acid twice
a week directly onto the scars to speed up the process. My improvement is
perhaps 60%. I haven't used elicina. Many posts I've seen regarding elicina
are negative; but there have been a few positive.

  To SupA -- Jane, 17:08:58 05/03/03 Sat

Regarding having subcision while on accutane--I was just told by my derm that
I should not think of having even a small area dermabraded or have a chemical
peel while on accutane (also a low dose). It seems like subcision would be an
even more risky thing to do while on accutane. This is just what my doctor
told me--hope it is a little bit helpful.

   Steve -- Denise1, 15:04:18 05/03/03 Sat

Needling is good for deep scars as well. I have all kinds of different scars
(5 different types) that I got needled and without exception ALL are
responding and filling in to some degree. The largest and deepest is an old
chicken pox one on my forehead. It's about 1/4 inch long and pretty deep; it's
like a huge indentation. It is responding to the needling I had. I also had
some frown lines on my forehead needled, and they most shallow one is almost
totally filled in now. Karen who used to post here a lot about her needling
experience said that she had a very deep scar that hadn't responded well to
other things that was literally totally filled in after 2 needling sessions,
but was almost filled in after the 1st session.

So it's not just shallow scars that respond, it really is all types. That's
why I think this procedure is so cool; it's so effective on all scar types
with little invasiveness. And....it goes right to the root of the problem
(breaking up old scar tissue) without the swelling that subcision causes.

  Dear All,

I would like to propose a gathering in London for those who suffer from acne
scars and would like to share their experience with others.
I do not live in the UK but I am willing to travel to London for such a
gathering. For those interested kindly send me an email on

rrmtt2000@yahoo.com. If we manage to get at least 5 persons interested in this
gathering, we can then agree on the details.
I look forward to receiving positive replies from you. If this works, it is
going to be both useful and fun.

  Amez -- Bob, 13:05:37 05/03/03 Sat

I have been using copper peptides and exfol cream for 4 motnhs and have had
40% improvement.I also use a 30% Glycolic acid in conjuction with them.

Others have reported good results as well and I would suggest you go to the
"delphiforums.com" site and locate the posts by other users of these products
and see their results and also thoughts on the product.

Of course everyones skin is different and maybe I am just fortunate to be
getting results but I can tell you this, I have tried heaps of treatments and
this one is the best so far. Yes, it's slow slow slow but that makes sense to
me because scars don't just come and go in one day they are resulted from
damage that evolved through acne and it makes sense to me that to reverse that
damage and repair skin tissue and restore even tone and color etc it will take
a process of dissolving and rebuilding.

  All the best

  Bob

  Amez - scar treatments -- Cameron, 02:03:32 05/03/03 Sat

Amez, for what it's worth, I've been applying Skin Biology's exfol serum and
copper peptide serum (each once a day) for 3 months, and I have seen nothing.
Maybe it's something that would help more for scar tissue that was recently
broken up (e.g. by needling) as Denise1 writes. Maybe you should try needling.
  Supposedly it's pretty good.

Eric - Colloidal Silver for Acne -- Cameron, 01:59:23 05/03/03 Sat

that I can think of is antioxidant vitamins, as those may have played a part
  in my healing too.

elicina or copper peptides -- amez, 00:47:24 05/03/03 Sat

  Hello,
Wondering if I can get some feedback on Elicina. After battling acne for about
18 years (and finally going on Accutane a few years ago), I'm facing the
severe scars left from my cystic acne. Since ending accutane, I've tried
micorderm and three rounds of cooltouch laser and my face has improved
  slightly.

I've been using Elicina for about four months (three jars so far) and it seems
to be doing something, just not all that I'd hoped. In harsh lighting I'm
still showing major topography. Am I a victim of a bs marketing scam, or am I
not being patient. Are there any people out there that have found that this
product is worth investing in for a year or so for noticable filling-in of
scars? The cynical me has visions of some entry-level (and clear-skinned)
marketing crew typing up those testimonials.

Also, just purchased copper peptides: Super CP Serum. Any luck with this
  product?
  Thanks...

Tom, Eric, and Susan -- Steve, 20:14:03 05/02/03 Fri

Tom, my skin can get somewhat pink @ times.. a very light pink nothing bad..
The pink i get doesnt bother me @ all, just the pesky scars.. In 1 monthes
time im thinking of going in for some needling...I have some shallow indented
scars on my temple i want to work on and some pitting.. Needling is supposedly
an excellent procedure for shallow scars.. SO ill def keep you guys updated..

Susan, Upon getting the Exoderm, seeing drastic immediate results may not
happen, depeding on your type of scarring.. If you scars are very superficial,
the lift may remove them completely upon removal of the mask... But as times
moves on your skin only improves in quality and everything is permanent.. You
shouldnt see any regression in your progress..

Eric, great info! Thanks.. Im def grateful for you participation on this
board, you give everyone here so much hope.. Subcision is def something i want
to look into as well, i hear some good things about it.. so i may look into
that.. Im really looking forward to what needling may do...Its cost efficient,
and supposedly works great.. Im going to make an appointment with a Tatoo
artist for the end of the month in LOs Angeles.. SO lets keep our fingers
  cross that this works..

   Hey Eric -- Denise1, 18:45:48 05/02/03 Fri

Hey Eric; yeah, I have had excellent results with B5 with only a small side
effect of lowered libido (blushing). Studies done on B5 dosage of 10 grams per
day, divided into 4 doses, showed a total clearing of acne. One thing to
remember is that B5 doesn't work for every single person, although I don't
think that some people give it enough time to work. I had to use it
consistantly for 4 months or so before I saw a total clearing; although I
still get a few hear and there. But I am mostly clear.

As for their topical products, I have used their topical B5, and their
regulating gel, which is like Ketsugo without the pore clogging ingredient
that Ketsugo has. All of their products are all natural with no chemicals or
preservatives, which tend to aggravate acne.

Their MSM gel looks great. It's 15% MSM, and I've considered getting that at
some point. Right now, I'm not doing the B5 topical gel as I'm concentrating
on getting the needled places filled in. I'm now using the copper peptides and
TNS Recovery Complex, which I'll stop using after week 4. I'll save what's
left over for the next round of needling I plan on getting in June sometime.
Ofcourse I use the Retin A micro at night.

BTW, the AcneMiracle topical B5 is fantastic and so is the regulating gel,
which really does help with oiliness.

I'm glad you're on the micro, are you on the strongest, the 0.1%? That's what
I'm on, and I love it.

Hope all this helps. Remember to eliminate your hygrogenated oils, and drink
plenty of water and try to eat low fat as well. These all help the B5 work
  better.

Also keep in mind that with acne, it's best to take 100 mgs of zinc each day.
40 is good, but 100 is MUCH better.

BTW, you should consider needling. 5 days of downtime, amazing results for the
$$$$, hardly any inconvenience or downtime. I'm shocked at how it works on all
scar types. I had about 5 different types of scars, and they are all filling
  in nicely.

Hope all this helps Eric. Keep the faith and God bless!!!

  exoderm -- Susan, 17:52:48 05/02/03 Fri

I am seriously considering the exoderm lift for my acne scarring, which I
would call moderate...but the insecurity about them can be overwhelming. My
question: Has anybody heard of Dr. Williams in Loveland, Colorado?

Also, does the improvement from exoderm last or is there regression? I know
the lifting effect can't be permanent (can't stop the clock), but is the scar
improvement permanent? Also, do TCA peels do anything substantial?

Thank you everyone for participating in this forum. I did not know there were
others who could be subsumed by facial scarring. Whenever, I see someone
scarred I wonder if they ever feel depression about their face.

  Susan

   Cameron, Denise & Steve -- Eric, 08:12:31 05/02/03 Fri

  Hi Cameron-

Thank you for the advice on the Colloidal Silver. I also used to use this
exact product from GNC (I work for Rite Aid and there is a GNC department in
the store I work out) before I used Accutane. Unfortunately it didn't work for
me, although it is recommended as an ingredient on many "home remedies" for
acne. Still, thank you for the suggestion, it is very nice that there are
people here that want to help a fellow acne sufferer.

Denise, I wasn't able to order the Acne Miracle B5 blend... there is a problem
with their server, it brings up an error message every time the "shipping
costs" menu is due to pop up. So instead I bought the B5 VitaCure product
which was listed as a competitor on the Acne Miracle website for their B5
blend. It doesn't contain the OptiZinc, but that's OK, because I already get
40mg of zinc in my multivitamin anyway, and don't really need more. I am
amazed at all the testimonials that are found on these websites for their B5
products... if Pantothenic Acid is really as good for acne as the claims here
(and the study cited), then there would be no reason to use anything else!! I
can't stress how useless and annoying antibiotic therapy has been for me and I
have found out the hard way that Accutane has its limits. And Retin-A works
much better as a wrinkle remedy than as an acne treatment. So I will give this
product a try and see if it kicks as much ass as everyone in the testimonials
seem to claim. Could you tell me about your own experience with B5?

Steve- What's going on, dude? 50% improvement with a single treatment of
Exoderm... not what the doctor promised would happen, but what the hell, it's
not crap either! :). Exoderm Chemoabrasion is still on my list of possible
acne treatments... I'm still unsure of whether I would go to see my regular
derm Dr. Becker or Dr. Rullan down in San Diego. Dr. Rullan seems to be the
more experienced scar doctor, and seems very aggressive in his treatment of
acne scarring, so he may just be the man! I also may go see Dr. Gladstone at
UC Stanford about subcision, and on a stretch I am still keeping my eyes and
ears open to Dr. Scheibner and her excellent laser methods for scars. Trust me
Steve, you should see the photots in her book... there are some extremely
nasty accident scars that are deep and disfiguring, which in some photos are
almost completely invisible! She also has photos of acne scars (she has one
photo where many minor scars have completely disappeared) and removal of
stretch marks... which, if I am not mistaken are, in many cases, supposed to
be as pesky and "permanent" as acne scars! On one of the pages in the book,
she has in bold letters "Nothing is Impossible", and states that it is this
mentality that drove her to not accept the limitations of thinking that scars
are permanent and led her to intuit laser techniques designed to improve or
remove scars. With doctors like this out there, we are in good hands. This is
the type of care we need, and the people who we should look to treat our
  scars!

So remember people, nothing is impossible! I'll be damned if I must accept
having acne and acne scars for the rest of my life... I refuse to allow this!!
And nor should any of you...

  -Eric

hi i have done subcision on 3 rolling scars. the one scar become larger than
the original scar. I would see that no improvement takes place after 50 days.
You said that you have performed excision. Did your doctor stich the inside
pit rather than the outside??my doctor is a plastic surgeon he told me stiches
inside are implanted(inside the skin) rather than the outside(these will be
  removed after 3 days).).
Well you told me there has no improvement in your cause of excision. Did your
doctor stich the inside(stich inside the root of dented scar).

Eric - Try Colloidal Silver for Acne -- Cameron, 01:35:05 05/02/03 Fri

I had acne since I was 13 and it was unstoppable until I took colloidal silver
at age 22. If I hadn't done that, who knows how long it would have continued.
I still get a pimple every once in a while, but nothing like the 4 or 5 big
ones I'd get every day. The "colloidal" part just means that it's made up of
particles suspended in liquid. Silver has always been a good antibiotic, but
it was only recently in history that it has available in this form. People
used to get argyria (their skin would turn gray) because they used such large
doses, but I think that's pretty much impossible with this.

I got mine at GNC (called "GNC Liquid Colloidal Silver") and used about a
teaspoon orally and topically every day. In about two months, I started seeing
MAJOR results. After I pretty much wiped out the acne, it didn't really seem
to make a difference whether I continued to use it or not--I still get pimples
once in a while regardless. Also, I don't know if other people would react the
same way: maybe my problem was more from the bacterial infection then the
clogged pores (although the latter causes the former). I would recommend
trying it though. You can take it without it interfering with other things, so
  it doesn't hurt to try.

   Denise: Questions -- Eric, 23:17:51 05/01/03 Thu

  Hey Denise-

Wow, I just checked out the acne miracles website. Is this stuff for real??!
They say that high dose B5 can pretty much eliminate acne, even severe cystic
acne, given time to do this! I had a problem ordering the powder, I will try
my sister's computer and see if I have better luck. I am using Retin-A Micro
by the way, and don't really want to use their topical system/Vitamin B-5 gel
unless I have to. What kind of results have you obtained with their
Pantothenic acid powder usesage? Is it as good as they claim? If it really
works, then maybe I can stop using the anti-biotics and start back on
Perricone's Alpha Lipoic Acid. There was an NV Perricone newsletter in my
e-mail box yesterday detailing Alpha Lipoic acid and its effects on acne
scarring; apparently Perricone is having continued success treating his
patients with both wrinkles and scars. Please get back to me ASAP Denise, I'm
just so sick of having acne, I thought I was done with it when I finished
Accutane, now its back like some never-ending nightmare. Once I am rid of this
devil forever, then I will deal with the pesky scars ;)!!!

   Eric and Hello -- Denise1, 22:50:43 04/30/03 Wed

Eric: Are you on Retin A micro or regular Retin A? Regular Retin A IS NOT GOOD
for acne sufferers. It has an ingredient called ISOPROPYL PALMITATE that is
rated a "5" on a 0-5 scale on an acne-causing scale. Ask to be switched over
to the micro and maybe add in some lactic acid peels from homepeels. Glycolic
acid doesn't work very well for acne after a certain period of time; the skin
tends to become immune to it. Also, you might want to try B5. Go to:

www.acnemiracle.com

These folks got some great all natural products with no synthetic chemicals.
Many people have great success with B5, including myself.

Hello: My icepicks are at least 8-10 years old; stretched out pore thingies
are at least just as old. My understanding is that scars older than 3 months
  respond the best.

I think one of the reasons I'm so happy is because I didn't expect to see much
change in these types of scars. I did expect to see a big change in the larger
type of scars, and that is happening. But I do think a lot of my improvement
has to do with the fact that I kept my face moist and applied CP Serum 5 times
a day until the scabs fell off. I believe that that is key.

Scarface and Kit -- Steve, 21:05:58 04/30/03 Wed

Scarface.. Stay strong buddy...THere are treatments out there that will help
your situation.. If you are in a good financial situation there are a ton of
  possibilites..

I personally got an Exoderm Lift done on my face that gave me some good
results.. Nothing mindblowing, but i got a good 50% or so improvement in the
  quality of my skin...

If you have Deep severe scarring a 2 or 3 exoderm lifts may do wonders for
your scarring.. The new big thing is Needling, which i hear works pretty
well..

In truth i really think that the Exoderm may be the best option for deep
severe scarring.. Its not going to get rid of scars after one treatment, but
they will improve, with additional treatments you may see fantastic results..

KIT, i understand your dissapointment... Im pretty dissapointed in my results
as well..The redness eventually fades, but i think my skin may stay a bit pink
  forever.. Nothing serious though..

Another thing Kit, i know you went to israel to get your treatment done..The
exoderm has a 3rd phase applicator that is pretty vital to the procuedure, are
you going to get this done? my third phase didnt improve that much, but it may
  work in your case..

Scarface stay strong and positive.. Each and everyone one of us are in this
situation for a reason..For some Reason God Chose to humble us...But i have
faith that God will lead me and all those who rely on him..Stay Strong and
  Stay Positive...

  One Luv..

Kit- About the Book Denise-Congrats!!! -- Eric, 09:53:43 04/30/03 Wed

  Hi all-

Kit, I bought "The Essence of Beauty" used from a bookseller off of
Amazon.com... I think the book is now out of print... so I'm really glad that
I got it when I did. It was published in 1994, (which makes me wonder how much
more refined her techniques have become since then... and those pictures were
awesome!!) when Dr. Scheibner still had her clinic in Beverly Hills, so it's
disappointing to have to go see her in Sydney to be treated... however, I am
not at the point yet where I would pursue this treatment anyway, so that is
OK. I'm still grappling with acne and although the Retin-A/Minocycline combo
is working well, I had a nasty break-out today which has me a bit upset. I am
hoping that maybe eventually my raging hormones will calm themselves and I can
stop with the drugs and not deal with break-outs!!!

Denise, that is AWESOME to hear about your progress!! The end of your long
hard journey may finally be in sight!! Please do keep us updated of continued
improvement, we are all rooting for you, especially me...

  -Eric

  To Sandovaal -- ping, 07:59:19 04/30/03 Wed

  Sandovaal,

I have rolling scars and ice picks on my cheeks, there are rolling scars on my
temples too. I got huge pores too.

For me ,I find excision work best for ice picks, they do not work for rolling
or wide scars. Lasers does not work for me.

Too bad right now I am low on cash..*sign*...I might start thinking of perlane
treatments only till the next month.

   Isologen -- Cityslicker, 23:41:41 04/29/03 Tue

I finally heard back from the customer rep at Isologen. She stated, that the
pivotal phase 3 trials will be starting, probably around June. She did not
state where the test were being conducted, just that test were beginning here
in the states. She stated, that one quarter of the participants will be
receiving blanks, not Isolagen. After several weeks and it is obvious who is
getting which one, those receiving the blanks can elect to received Isolagen
and they will receive the treatment. I will update further if/when I receive
  additional details.

Steve and others interested in needling -- Denise1, 17:33:15 04/29/03 Tue

Steve; I believe you should direct the tattoo artist or whomever to the site
where the procedure is explained. Personally, I couldn't see what she was
doing, so it's hard to explain the technique she was using. I know that she
applied as much pressure as she could and made it clear that she would see
what my skin could tolerate, which was a lot of pressure. It could get
uncomfortable at times, but certainly not intolerable. She did put numbing
solution on my skin before needling.

I was going to do an update today and I wanted to report my week-and-a-half
results and what my thoughts are. First, I do believe that the skin and scar
tissue has to be pretty damaged in order to see a strong result, which is what
everyone had been saying. The places that were the most bloody and scabbed
over the most are the places that are filling in BIGTIME. The places that got
red and lightly peeled aren't doing a lot.

Here's what I think. I am truly impressed. The boxcar scar on my cheek is
almost all the way filled in. The chickenpox circle scar is going away too,
little by little. Here's the great part, though. My small icepicks are filling
in as well. This is incredible news. I can stretch my skin and see where there
is a filling in of these scars.

The tiny stretched out pore thingies are filling in also. Here's what I truly
impresses me about this technique: IT WORKS ON EVERY KIND OF SCAR IMAGINABLE!
I don't have to treat the different scars with different techniques! That's
wonderful!!! And all of this cost me $100!!!! WOW!!! I cannot wait to see what
these scars look like in 30-45 days. I still need to have this done probably
2-3 more times I'm sure. She missed a few places that I thought for sure she'd
see when I had it done the first time.

Keep in mind too that I have been using the CP Serum and Retin A (the Retin A
use resumed after my scabs fell off a week ago) along with the TNS Recovery
Complex. All of these things work to stimulate collagen. Dr. Des Fernandez
strongly suggests Retinoids or topical vitamin C when your scabs fall off to
help stimulate collagen. He says that skin does much better with one of these
products than not applying one of them.

So....I'm very happy. I'm very happy that the icepicks seem to be filling in.
Don't get me wrong, they are visible, and I'm sure I'll have to get them
treated again, but the fact that I can actually see a filling in is great
  encouragement.

Hope that helps and encourages everyone.

  Needling Info -- Steve, 02:45:42 04/29/03 Tue

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience with the needling proceudure..

This is def something im looking into, but if anyone could help i have a few
  questions.....

  1. How many times should the tatoo artist or whoever it is performing the
procedure needle each scar? Is he or she supposed to directly needly every
portion of the scar? or possibly just the edges?

  2. Has anyone gotten good results when Visible pores have been needled in?
Just wondering if Needling is going to improve my pitting as well..

  3. I have black heads on my nose, will needling help with the black heads i
have? or possibly make the situation worse?

This technique looks like a great cost efficient treatment.. Im going to try
it done on my entire face as soon as possible...

Can everyone also share the maximum amount of improvement they believe they
have gotten? I think with my Skin Condition, Needling may do wonders!

ANy help would be great.. Thanks!

Ice Pick scars -- Gisele, 17:02:51 04/28/03 Mon

This is my first time and I have a question about "Ice Pick Scars". As a young
adult I had occassional breakouts, I went to a Dr who applied topical creams
and performed procedures that left shallow "Ice Pick Scars" only on my
cheeks...they can be covered up with makeup but I am a little self-conscious
and would really appreciate some feedback on what I can do????? I have
sensitive skin and get the odd breakout but with a proper cleaning ritual I
have found out how to minimize my breakouts. I am left with these scars
although they are not deep and can be covered up it seems to bother me.
Hopefully someone out there can help me.

  Thanks in advance!!!!!!

Gentle Laser Treatments for Acne Scar Removal -- Eric, 08:31:37 04/28/03 Mon

  Hey guys-

I am very excited about this! I just bought a book called "The Essence of
Beauty" by Adrianna Scheibner, M.D., a laser dermatologist from Australia.
Apparently, she is a (if not THE) pioneer in using lasers to treat scars. She
uses a special technique called "gentle laser stimulation" to stimulate the
skin to rebuild itself and slowly remove scars from the inside. It seems that
she intuited this technique herself, and uses all manner of lasers, including
CO2 to penetrate deep into the skin to to stimulate repair without damaging or
"resurfacing" the skin. This technique can be used anywhere on the body
because it is much more gentle and safer than traditional resurfacing. The
book including some really astonishing before and after photos of all manner
of scars, including acne scars, surgical and accident scars, and stretch
marks. The results are breathtaking, especially given the severity of some of
these scars! In some cases, many treatment sessions were needed, but even so,
there are results in this book that I think many plastic surgeons would never
dream of achieving! I especially like this quote from the book: "The
techniques... are the result of fourteen years of experience in the field
(eleven of which have been on a full-time basis), a personal refusal to accept
the limitations of thinking that scars are permanent, and a desire to help
people, especially those who have exhausted the conventional treatments and
have nowhere else to turn." How refreshing a wonderful to meet a doctor
(finally) who will not believe that scars are permanent. It is truly a
self-defeatist attitude to believe anything less, and unfortunately most
dermatologists and plastic surgeons out there who are treating our scars
believe that the most that can be done for them is to reduce, not remove them.
I think Dr. Scheibner may definately be someone to keep her eye out for,
especially if the rumors of her re-opening a clinic in California come true.
The website for her practice in Sydney, Australia, is also very interesting
  and can be found at
www.scheibner.com. Guys, please check out her website and
let me know what you think!

  -Eric

  Hi fellow pals,
I need to ask does anyone of you know about any advanced treatments from the
Land of the Rising Sun? It seems that no one has ever talked about them. How
advanced are the doctors there? Just curious because I have never seen a Jap
doc or patient in discussing these issues on any board in English before.

Very curious. What do you think, guys? I have heard from one of my friends
that they provide extrememly satisfactory results but the cost...
  er...probably also extremely unaffordable.

Thanks so much for the information and also congratulations on your
improvement! That is very wonderful and you must be elated. If you don't mind
a few follow-up questions: Did Idexa use a traditional tattoo gun or a
hand-tool? I have about a 1" x 1" area of indetations right smack in the
middle of my forhead. Even though they are indeted, however, if you feel them,
there is still some lumpy scar tissue underneath. I've been told that the
needling may help with that as well--can I ask your opinion on this? Do you
think the needling goes deep enough to break down that knotty lumpy tissue as
well as helping to flatten out the indents? Also, could you tell me a bit
about the healing? Were you bloody? How long did it take before the swelling
and redness subsided. I've had one tattoo on my back, but it was long enough
ago that I just can't remember. Finally, I am getting married in August
outside in the sun (aak!) which is why I'm so impatient to do this now. Do you
think if I were to go in the beginning of June, this would be cutting it too
close? I'm sorry if I'm asking you to repeat info that you've already
given--I've looked for it, but couldn't find anything. Thanks so much for all
your info, and good luck in your next session.

THANK YOU EB! -- Tanya, 21:01:42 04/27/03 Sun

Thank you for your reponse concerning the atrophy from the intralesional
cortisone injections. I believe that I will probably not experience scarring
from the effects of the cysts because the cysts I get are quite shallow, and I
have had this problem for six months and have never been left with a mark or
scar except for the indentations from the cortisone (so for that I should be
thankful). I have also read the most interesting article. A dermatologist
wrote an article about atrophy from cortisone, and stated that when the
atrophy is present, the doctor should inject only saline into the depressed
area which breaks up the crystals and starts the healing process. I am going
to mention this to my dermatologist.

  For everyone:
I have read some great information concerning Artecoll; it can be used to fill
depressed acne scars. It is implanted in your skin, and the implant remains
intact forever. The injected collagen last five years or more. If after five
years you need another injection, the implant is still present, and they just
inject the collagen solution. Your own collagen forms around the injection and
adopts it as its own (significantly better than collagen shots ever 3 months).
It is not in the US yet (going through FDA approval). The procedure, however,
can be done in Niagara Falls or Toronto. The cost is anywhere form $450 to
  $1150 for each syringe.

More so, there is a new laser at the Cleveland Clinic that stimulates collagen
production underneath the skin's surface for depressed scars. This procedure,
however, may require several treatments depending on the depth and size of the
  scar.

  Hi jack.

i have icepicks scars on my cheeks and they are excised last year. I think

better for rolling scars. All the best.

I tried smoothbeam only once so I couldn't say much about it. Since you are
concerned about the texture of the skin now, maybe can try some tropical like
glycolic or retin A. Just my 2 cents view.

  Hello Heidi,
Thanks for your message. Dr Chu gave an estimate of 10 weeks or longer, so I

about the extent of improvement and he replied that there was no data on
"maximum and minimum responses", but he hoped for a good response for all his

   collagen building -- Tracy, 19:50:36 04/26/03 Sat

Hello! I have a question for anyone who can help me!! I have been receiving
pulsed dye laser treatments for a few pitted scars on my face. I am going in 3
weeks to receive my fifth one. This laser is supposed to help rebuild the
collagen under the pitted scar. Because of my impatience and compulsiveness, I
have done some picking at the sides of the scars, hoping to flatten the edges.
While the edges are almost healed, and will be healed by my next appointment,
my concern is this... Should I have the next laser treatment or wait until the
edges have had several months to heal? Will the collagen rebuild faster or
moreso at the edges because the edges are newly "wounded" skin or is this even
a concern? I don't want the edges to build back up well above the scar itself.
Does anyone have any experience similar to this that can share some info for
me? I want these scars gone so badly, but I do not want to risk making them
worse. I don't have the heart to tell the doctor what I did. If you have
advice, please respond quickly. I am hoping everything will be okay for my
  treatment. Thanks!!!!! Tracy

   Subcision Update -- Sandovaal, 19:19:28 04/26/03 Sat

  Hey Ping,

It has been 2 weeks since my Subcision/Perlane treatment and would like to
update you guys on my progress.

Ping, I'd say I have a 95% improvement on my face. The depressed and rolling
scars are gone. Especially pleased with the round depressed scar that is
filled in with the Perlane. It's now level. There is still some swelling on
both my temples, although it's subsiding gradually day by day. I had expected
the swelling to go down earlier though. The bumps are not prominent, but I can
feel them when i run my fingers across my temples. Overall, the treatment has
gone well. Now, I want to concentrate on treating the rough texture of my
skin...perhaps I'll resume IPL in a few weeks to treat that.
How did Smoothbeam go? Does it improve skin texture, scarring ? Ciao!

Needling update -- Happy Needler, 01:00:15 04/26/03 Sat

For all the people who have asked (thanks!) I'm still very pleased with the
results of my needling at Black and Blue in SF. It's been about 5 months and
there has been no regression in the results. I plan to go back for a second
  round sometime in June.

Leopolda, I was the second person who had this done by Idexa, so you would
have to say she was new to doing this type of thing for scars, but it really
is no different than shading with a tattoo gun (without ink, of course) and
she has had years of experience at that. It sounds like she has done several
more people since I had mine done. She has also done a lot of facial tatooing
which is one of the reasons I felt very safe with her. If you have any
concerns, I suggest going in to meet her. Maybe you could get a test patch
done if you still have any qualms.

hi ping i have read your post last that you perform excision. How was the scar

  hi ping..
I've been using differin cream for a couple of months. Yes, i wasn't exactly
that comfortable with Prof Goh either. I thought he was a bit rushed, and
didn't seem very attentive. It would have been better if he had actually taken
the time to explain things more and answer all my queries. But as i said, it
was all a very last minute thing so the first thing i thought of was NSC and
he seemed to be the "best" over there. But i'll gladly switch if you (or
anyone else) can recommend me a better, more attentive doc. Hopefully someone
who doesn't trivalise matters and understands what a pain it is to go around
  with a scarred face.
Btw, I'm in sydney half the time, and i'm gonna scout for a doc over there as
  well.

re: Singapore NSC -- ping, 13:37:22 04/24/03 Thu

  cessie,

Our NSC is just not the right place to start out with treating our acne scars.
My consulation doctor used to be Prof Goh. I been there for a long time that I
really lost counts of the number of visits.

But NSC is so conservative in their scars treatments. My point is..Prof Goh
can be so nonchalant (bo chap) sometimes. Others might not think so, but I
really do. So compared to the $68 consulation fee, I don't mind spending a bit
more like $80 to see other private clinic doctors.

Ya.. That should be smoothbeam, last year I also pay the same amount ($250)
when it was under trial. Looks like the price remained the same.

Have you try tropical cream like retin A before?? I been using it for a year
or so. Another one is CP serum. Lots of people are raving about it. I try it
sometimes back, and I broke out from it. So I eventually stick back to retin
  A. Retin A can help to improve the texture and skin tone.

Ooops, forgot to answer your question about the cost. It's $250 per session
  and consultation was $68

i'm not sure if it's the smoothbeam, but they were doing a study on whatever
it was they did to me. Anyway, the procedure was fairly painless, and i'll be
going back there again in 2 months ( as i will not be in sg in the meantime).
Anyway, i was wondering if it's advisable to do other stuff in the meantime,
like microdermabrasion. I know the laser's supposed to help heal the pitted
scars, but i want something that will help improve the surface, even if it's
just slightly. Btw, why did u stop going to prof goh? have u 'healed'? or
  found a better doc?

Hi there, I used to be a patient of Prof Goh too.

Just a few questions. So are they still evaluating the smoothbeam? How much
  does it cost per treatment??

  Non-Ablative laser at NSC -- Cessie, 05:37:03 04/24/03 Thu

  Age : 21
  Gender : Female
  Country :Singapore

Hello all! I'm new to this forum... wandered in here when i was doing some
research on the non-ablative laser thing i'm booked in for later this
afternoon. It was (obviously) a very last minute decision- i went to see Prof
Goh (at NSC, Singapore) only yesterday, and due to the general fear of
hospitals / the TTSH vicinty because of SARS, i was able to get both the
consulatation and surgery appts in record time. Anyway, my problem is mainly
acne scars, and i'm hoping that i'll see some sort of improvement with minimal
pain. Btw, he was telling me that he wouldn't recommend the peels or even
microderm, etc, as there will only be 0.0-something % improvement. I'm not
sure about that, as i've seen friends who went for peels and their skin looks
so much clearer. But i guess i'll just have to trust his expert opinion for
the time being. I'm really tired of having to plaster my face with makeup
everytime i go out just to hide all my icepick and huge depressed facial
scars. I'll do another posting again once i get back from NSC. Wish me luck!

laser and facial hair -- rottenapple, 04:42:53 04/24/03 Thu

hi, does anyone know if after having laser resurfacing (the erbium YAG type)
will i still have facial hair? i mean, does laser damage follicles?

  Needling Yourself -- Cameron, 02:08:17 04/24/03 Thu

What do you all think about needling yourself as some people have done on that
  needling message thread?

Needling doesn't seem complicated. You could practice on a couple small spots
  first.

  cortisone -- EB, 19:13:24 04/23/03 Wed

  Tanya,
The depressions from the cortisone shots are actually a side effect of
cortisone called fat atrophy. The cortisone caused a loss of fat in the areas
where it was injected. It will fill in over time---perhaps a few months.
However, the depression may not completetly resolve since some of the damage
to the skin could have been caused by the cysts---not just cortisone. Only
time will tell--but there will be improvement.

   Beth -- Denise1, 18:49:16 04/23/03 Wed

I havn't read the whole 30 page thread, so I am not sure which post you are
referring to. But, I think she may be talking about the action whereby you
actually really dig into the skin to facilitate breaking up the scar tissue. I
had my whole forehead done, and I had some frown lines that were quite bloody
after the procedure. However, she did go lightly over the other areas of my
forehead. This didn't produce redness or irritation; BUT, I have tough, thick
skin. I have the most non-sensitive skin on the planet. It could be totally
different for you, not too sure.

You could always test patch a spot or two and see how you do in your first
needling session. Just be sure to have something moisturizing that will help
your skin rejuvenate itself. If I were you, I would test patch just to be
sure.

  To: Denise 1 - One more question -- Beth, 15:16:22 04/23/03 Wed

I was reading through some of Maya's post and she said that if you needle
outside of the scar (on healthy skin) that it would leave red marks, but I
thought that people who had this done had their ENTIRE face needled. How about
you, Denise? How much of your face did you have treated? Thanks again. Beth

   Beth -- Denise1, 15:15:39 04/23/03 Wed

Hey! You may want to e-mail Skin Biology and ask them very specific questions
about their copper peptides. Explain to them exactly what happened to you, how
sensitive your skin still is, etc....I e-mailed them when I had my TCA peel
because the ointment given to me to heal my skin after the peel broke me out.
If I wanted another TCA peel, I wanted to know what I could do to avoid that.
They recommended emu oil, as did Cathi at Homepeels.com. So you could probably
do well with emu oil alone, if you are that sensitive. I have become very
impressed with emu oil. It's non pore-clogging and it's very high in oleic
acid which is a natural anti-inflammatory. It (emu oil) really helps with
  redness also.

But yeah, I'm still red in the places where my last scabs fell off, but some
places are practically back to normal.

Be sure to go to skin biology's website and read a bit and then e-mail them.
They may recommend you start out applying the copper peptides very lightly
every third night or so. They recommend copper peptides to help heal the skin.
You can read many testimonies of people who had peel disasters like you who
have gotten the peptides and emu oil and, over a period of months, have gotten
their skin back to normal. But be sure to e-mail them with very explicit
details about your skin so they will give you the right advice. See, the
problem is, if your skin is so sensitive, you definately want it to heal well
and as quickly as possible. That's why I recommend you check all this out
before you get your needling done. If your skin is still so sensitive, you
need to be very careful when getting it done and you definately want to create
a very moist environment so your skin will heal well. This is vitally
  important.

Hope this helps Beth and please let us know what you do!!:-)

   Sam -- Denise1, 14:52:30 04/23/03 Wed

Hi Sam. Actually, this was the first needling session I had ever had. Karen
had already told me that her icepicks had improved with needling, but
definately weren't filled in. Therefore, I didn't expect but so much
improvement. Especially considering the fact that I've just peeled. In any
event, Maya, my buddy who started this whole needling craze on another board
says she has about 70 pits on her face (small ones) that she is
  working on.

I am so amazed at the healing of the two scars I mentioned that I would have
spent about 20 times as much just to get the results on those two scars alone.
Nevertheless, I'll be watching the other scars; many say that you can't tell
at first. Karen even said she didn't think needling did ANYTHING at first.

Anyway, I'm going to keep getting my icepicks needling and I believe that it
will be very helpful to filling them in. This is a quick, inexpensive way to
treat acne scars and I'm very glad it seems to be working for me. I'm even
thinking about getting trained in it so I can help other people with their
  scars.

  To: Denise 1--Great News! -- Beth, 14:46:24 04/23/03 Wed

I am so happy for you!

So your skin is already returning to a normal color as well? I don't know if
my skin can handle the copper peptide stuff--or anything else for that matter.
It is still quite sensitive to all products other than oatmeal soap. Perhaps
I'll order it and do a test treatment to see if I react. You got the peptide
product from SkinBiology, right? I want to get this done in May before it gets
too hot outdoors--so please do keep me posted. Thanks! Beth

Very Late and just bored -- Pat, 09:03:25 04/23/03 Wed

Has anyone had subcision for scars on their temple? Is subcision possible for
  thin skin.
Also, realistically speaking. Is it possible to achieve results like those that
you come across on the web.I see some unbelieveable before and after pictures
of people who all but surelly absolved their acne scar problems,by some new
non ablative, ablative laser therapy. But coming across this forum it seems that
no one has had any dramatic improvements in their scars.I haven't read any
post exclaiming freedom and amazement that their scars are gone.I don't mean
to sound pessimistic but is acne scar revision effective and worth the money
and time or should i just go ahead and just live with these scars.

also i don't mean to beat around the bush but i thought i would just throw
this out there.(i'm in a typing mood anyways:-)i know everyone talks about
treatments and dr.'s and plastic surgeons but i just want to type about how my
acne scars has effected me.First I tend to think alot about my life before i
got my scars and it really takes away from my focus.(I can't even read a book
anymore:-(In my reminicsing I always tend to come around to how different my
life has become. From a happy go lucky kid to being absolutely shy and scared
of being around other people. (I don't even want to leave my apartment unless
  I have to.)I'm only 22,and I feel like a 70 year old.As much as this has
affected my self esteem, beliefs, and values(such as why god would do such a
thing, especially to a good decent person) and as much as I feel my life has
been uncomfortably changed by this hideously embarrising concoction of a
joke,I've recently looked to young people who've had just as much a normal
life but never lived to experience the rest of it.This is kind of embarrising
but anyways yesterday i came across a memorial site for Krissy Taylor (I'll
bring up famous people because we can collectively identify them)who was an
emerging model who died in 1995 at the age of 17.She had so much of everything
going for her, beauty, fame, luxuries and youth, but yet she's dead. She will
never experience the rest of her youth or the joy of raising a family or
growing old with her loved ones.I'll also bring up JonBenet Ramsey who was
blessed with striking beauty but was not blessed to be dead at the age of
6.She'll never know what it's like to go to high school or drive a car. I
bring this up because i know we all think were cursed with this problem or
that it's caused us to miss out on life. But in recent thinking it's really
starting to occur to me just how fragile life is.You can be blessed with
certain things but it can be taken away from you in a second. Now after
thinking about this i'm starting to think maybe i was blessed to have a good
life for 19 years instead of agonizing over losing the rest of my happiness to
acne scars. If I never marry and have kids because of this(and I hope I do)I
will take solemn refuge in knowing that there are people who never lived to
experience the best of life.I hope this thought adds a new dimension to some
of you who like me are trying to make sense of all this.

   Depressed acne scar's -- Faith, 07:38:36 04/23/03 Wed

Hi, everyone! I am trying to search for Mepiform scar tape and I cannot seem
to find it by using the google search. I would also like to know if the tape
work's on depressed scar's and not just raised scar's? There is also something
called Thermalift is this a procedure or a lotion that is applied to the
scar's.Does anyone also know if the Mepiform scar tape can be worn at night or
must it be worn during the day? I am so sorry for all of these question's it
is just that I am so confused with what I am doing to my skin I am 28 yrs. old
and suffer from depressed ,ice pick and acne pores and I am currently using
skin biology's exfol sreum and cp serum because I have sensitive skin that is
the reason why I chose to go with the serum's but, still it seem's that my
complexion has become even more worse then what it was before I am breaking
out and have developed these strange hard little white bump's all over my
face. So of course between what I see when I look in the mirror and my
depression I just feel so lost and do not know what to do. Please to anyone
who read's this I would deeply appreciate some answer's to a step in the right
direction in what I could use to help my scar's become less noticable. Thank
  You so very much!!!!!!!!!!!

  denise -- Sam, 03:04:17 04/23/03 Wed

Are you just working on one icepick scar? (As opposed to many) I have tons
they're all shapes and sizes sorta look like huge black pores. Did needling
help any of these type pits? Whats your icepick like? Just wondering because
it sounds like its been through a lot of treatments. LOL it must be a tough
sucker. When you get rid of that one then I will get excited.

  Hey again, Beth -- Denise1, 01:17:32 04/23/03 Wed

Actually Beth I'm very pleased to report that I believe that the needling will
  be a success.

I spoke too soon on my last update. I DID scab over on Sunday. I have lost all
the scabs and noticed that two scars are remarkably filled in. Interestingly
enough, I never had hope for one as it is an OLD chickenpox scar from
childhood. It's the kind that looks just like a circle. Know what I'm
referring to? It literally looks just like a perfect circle; not wavy or just
a slight indent, but a rather conspicuous circle. Well, she needled that out
of curiosity. It has really improved since the scab came off. My boxcar scar
that had improved so much over the past year I believe will be totally filled
  in also.

I think some of those small stretched out pore thingie scars have improved
too, but the ice picks are still there, but I expected that.

What I would do if I were you Beth is to be sure to get that copper peptide
stuff everyone is talking about to use for healing. I've healed remarkably
fast; I used CP Serum and emu oil and I really slathered on the emu oil
because providing a moist environment is vital to healing. But the copper
peptides are incredibly important. I applied these things up to 5 times a day.

I'm very pleased with what I see so far. She did 2 other chicken pox scars
that I didn't have a lot of hope for, but I don't see a huge improvement in
those yet. But I expect improvement to continue over the next 30-60 days.

Even my husband was impressed with the way the chicken pox scar on my chin
improved. He was amazed when I showed it to him tonight.

I think that the most important thing for anyone to remember is to get some
kind of copper peptide to help with your skin healing if you get this done. I
am also applying the TNS Recovery complex to stimulate collagen.

I didn't use the other copper peptide formula people mentioned (I think
happyneedler and karen) mentioned the formula and provided a link to it. I
checked it and the ingredients had some things that would probably break me
out, so I stuck with my CP Serum and emu oil and did just great.

So I expect to see more improvement and will keep everyone updated.

  cortisone injection depression/scar -- Tanya, 23:57:24 04/22/03 Tue

I have only recently experienced some cysts on only my chin after starting
ortho-tricycline. I do not break out anywhere else on my face; thus, I use
klaron lotion for chin only, and the cysts have stopped. Unfortunately, during
the bad time, my dermatologist injected me with four cortisone injections and
never told me there could be indentations. My chin has two large and two small
indentations, and I am beyond depressed about it. Has anyone had this
experience. My dermatologist promised me that the indentations will gradually
fill, but it will take time. I appreciate any responses. Thank you!

  Denise 1 -- Needling -- Beth, 20:01:31 04/22/03 Tue

Thanks for the progress report, Denise. I really appreciate the detailed
description so that I'm not in shock if/when I have this done. Please let me
know (most importantly) if the procedure has done any further harm to your
skin. It is not the chance that the treatment won't work that makes me
hesitant--it's not wanting to make things worse. Please do keep us updated as
the healing process continues and let us know if your skin starts showing
  signs of improvement. Beth

lola and suzanne -- heidi, 09:39:35 04/22/03 Tue

  Lola:

Please note that your cells may or may not take 10 weeks and this is not
dependent on your age or scars but rather your body. Every Body is different.
I am 27, healthy (dont smoke) and my cells are still growing at week 12 and
they dont expect my cells to done for a couple of more weeks. The people at
Isolagen and Dr Chu have noted this is "normal" and are now quoting people 10
weeks because the 6this is more realistic than the 6 weeks. I am telling you
this so you dont getting your hopes up for a certain date to start your
treatment (like I did). Just remember if it takes longer this is normal and
such a short time to wait for a lifetime of happiness. Did Dr Chu quote a
percentage of improvement you might expect?

  To steve -- kit, 08:17:49 04/22/03 Tue

  HI, it is me again!

Steve, great to hear that you have such good improvements! My redness has
faded 90%, but I have some discolorations which the doctor has told me it will
be natural and will gone with time. However, I didn't notice that good of
improvement like you. It is just 3months plus for me and I have got to wait
for another 2 to 3 months for the layers of skin to return.

Anyway, it is probably exoderm+chemoabrasion which may bring better results, I
guess. But if you ask me to go back to Exoderm again, I will say NO! Too long
for the downtime is the main reason. I still wish to roam freely, you know. At
the moment, Exoderm is totally out of question, not because of the results,
but simply because of the downtime. Anyway, I didn't expect it to be so long
  in the first place.

I guess I will wait for isolagen patiently.

  isolgen -- suzanne, 20:42:52 04/20/03 Sun

Hello Lola. It was nice to read your posting. It sounds like your treatment
programme is just a few weeks ahead of mine. Dr Chu also told me it would be
10 weeks until I started the injections, so I anticipate sometime in mid June
for the first one. The description of what is being done for you sounds very
  similar to my own programme.
Also thanks cb for your good wishes.

  Thermage ThermaCool -- Cameron, 17:23:18 04/20/03 Sun

Well, I guess I just had to search a little to answer my own question on
ThermaCool. Thermage is the company that makes the ThermaCool system. This is
  their website:

  http://www.thermage.com/

You can go to the patients FAQ and they have an email address where you can
ask for a list of doctors in your area that offer ThermaCool. Their before and
after pictures are not impressive at all, but apparently Toni is not the only
one who has seen good results. Here's another message topic thread on
  ThermaCool:

  http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/Forum36/HTML/001108.html

It sounds like the concept is similar to Cool Touch, but maybe this actually
does something. Has anyone else tried it?

  Toni - Thermage-Thermalift-Thermacool treatment -- Cameron, 16:44:55 04/20/03
  Sun

Toni, how can we find out more about this treatment? Is there a web site or
can you give us your doctor's phone number? Do you think the results could be
temporary as it has only been a few days since you had the treatment? Also,
how much of the improvement is from the Thermage-Thermalift-Thermacool and how
much is from the other products you're using? Where can we read about those
products? Let us know if the benefits are lasting. Sorry for all the
questions, and thanks for the information.

  CB,

Thanks for posting that link. I had e-mailed the customer contact
representative (Belinda Long) late Thursday afternoon, April 17. She may have
left the office early Thursday with the holiday approaching Friday, or was
busy, and didn't have a chance to answer yet. This could be the same info. she
was referring to last time she e-mailed me, she said, they would have more
details after April 10. As soon as I hear back from her I'll post her reply.

  Isolagen & FDA -- cb, 00:31:25 04/20/03 Sun

Just in case you have not seen this press release by Isolagen, I thought I'd
  post the link:

  www.isolagen.com/pages/pdf/2003%20-%204-15-03%20-%20Press%20Release%20-%20FDA%20-%20FINAL.pdf

It looks like Isoalgen is getting closer to being approved in the US. See
above link for full release issued on 4-14.
It mentions they will start thier 'pivotal trial' on 5-15 or before. I'm
assuming full approval depends on the results of this trial? Cityslicker, can
you add anything to this? I know you have been talking w/folks @ Isolagen
  regularly.

Lola/Suzanne please keep us up to date on your progress. I really am wishing
good things for both of you! Sounds like you can't do any better than Dr. Chu.
Everything I've seen about this is that it is good stuff. I'm hoping that
it'll be the holy grail for a lot of people, myself included.

  Isolagen -- Lola, 21:05:03 04/19/03 Sat

  Age : 45
  Gender : Female
  Country : UK

Suzanne, I am also having the Isolagen treatment by Dr Anthony Chu. Heidi, if
you still read this board, thank you for giving me his phone no.

I have had the sample taken from behind my ear and hope to have the first
injection in 8 weeks. Dr Chu quoted me 10 weeks rather than 6 and I assume it
is because I have lots of scars and as I'm quite old, I guess the cells might
take longer to replicate! Anyway, I will post after my first injection.

I have had scar treatments by two other doctors in London, the first being
very well known and experienced. However, I definitely like Dr Chu the most
and wish I had found him earlier. Besides being an acne specialist and
extremely knowledgable in his field, Dr Chu runs an acne support group,
invented the Dermalux lamp, conducts studies, does private and national health
work. He is highly professional but also comes across as a very nice person. I
feel he is the sort of Dr who will offer a treatment appropriate for the
individual, rather than a treatment which will make him money.

He offered me a very fair package of £2,500 for the Isolagen treatment, plus
n-lite, plus subcision. He has also offered to fill in a few fine
lines/wrinkles. A few months after the final Isolagen injection, he will
review the progress and may provide an additional treatment if necessary.

I have spent the last three years looking for suitable acne scar treatments in
the UK and wish I had found Dr Chu earlier. For all you guys in the UK, please
  do consider visiting Dr Chu.

  Hi Beth -- Denise1, 20:44:02 04/19/03 Sat

I found a permanent tatooing lady here in Virginia about two hours away. I
look exactly like Cityslicker described. Raspberry colored spots where the
needling was done. I did bleed, but she wiped away the blood, therefore, no
scabs. I am putting CP Serum and emu oil on about 4-5 times a day to help the
healing process. I look like a wreck right now! I am pretty much in hiding.

It did sting and was uncomfortable, even extremely uncomfortable at times, but
we will see what happens. Again, I'm sure I'll need this done more than once,
but hey.....it only cost $100.00, which is the cost of one microdermabrasian.
If I get really good results with this, it'll be worth it. And I LOVED the
woman who did this for me. Very sweet, thorough, and kind.

I found her just like you recommended, Beth. I went to the permanent makeup
tatoo website that listed the practitioners in my state and that is how I
  found her.

  I'll keep everyone updated.

Dr. William Little in DC -- Jane, 16:44:26 04/19/03 Sat

Hi, I know I have seen Dr. William Little's name mentioned on this board, but
now I can't find it. I can't remember whether comments were positive or
negative. Can anyone tell me anything about this doctor? Thanks!

   Eve -- Cityslicker, 12:34:52 04/19/03 Sat

Eve, I've only seen 2 Dr's in Houston. Dr. Capriotti who is doing my fat
transfer and Dr. Chaney who I seen for a consult. Dr. Chaney seemed genuinely
concerned of trying to help my acne scars and recommended laser surgery, he
was also highly recommended from another message board. My only negative vibe
I had from my office visit with him was, he had his female assistant in the
room when we had our consult. I really prefer to talk with the Dr. alone, in
private, and I was a little uncomfortable with her in the room. Just my own
preference. Though, I'm sure he wasn't aware, I felt that way, as I failed to
  speak up.

Dr. Capriotti, I feel does good work from the pictures I've seen, and thus
far, I'm happy with my results. I've gotten a 40-50% improvement and I'm
hopeful, I'll exceed that with another treatment or two, and hopeful, the
transfer will take and attach to the blood vessels and remain permanent. My
only complaint with Dr. Capriotti is: I told him of a scar on my neck, and
another couple on my forehead and he said ohhhh, those aren't anything to be
concerned with, and no one would even notice them. Perhaps he's right, and he
is entitled to his opinion, which by the way, I was asking for, but when he
says, nobody will notice them......well, I notice them. I felt like he was
discounting my concerns, and that makes me angry. But I try to balance that,
with the fact that, I'm sure we all examine our skin closer than others do,
and perhaps, the scars I'm concerned with, other people are not even noticing.
I'm sure, he see's alot of scars that really are nothing to be concerned about
and that people put too much emphasis on, perhaps he's trying to save me some
money, or perhaps, they really are nothing to be concerned about. I
appreciated his expert opinion, just stung a little, but it did not stop me
from seeking his services. The scar on my neck was a straight line excision
scar from Dr. Rapaport, which is, not real noticable, and I was just curious
if it could be improved upon. And the other 2 scars are both about an inch
long, where I ran into an airplane door, on 2 different occassions, as I work
for a major airline. If I do laser surgery or Exoderm later this year I may
have him concentrate on them then.

This is the first time I have posted on this site, although I have in the past
read the correspondence. I should explain that I am now being treated by Dr
Chu for my acne scars which I have mainly on the sides of my face. Fortunately
I can hide these efffectively with my hair, but I know that they are there.

I thought I would post periodically in order to keep others informed on how my
treatment progresses. I had the cells taken from behind my ear last week
(painless) and am now waiting until I an called back for the first stage of
the treatment. I can not say how it will all turn out, but it was nice for Dr
Chu to say that I will enjoy being able to wear my hair back from my face. I
imagine, like with a fat girl that becomes thin, it will, even if the
treatment works, take me some time to believe that I can do this and not feel
everyone is looking at my scars.

Dr Chu is very professional. I asked him many questions by email between the
first time I saw him for a consultation and when I had the cells removal and
he gave me clear answers in a timely fashion.

I should mention that I live in London, so I don't have the difficulty some of
the American correspondents on this site may have in being treated by Dr Chu.

Daniel on Isolagen -- DaveB, 07:31:26 04/19/03 Sat

Daniel, you said that you have heard that some people were not getting very
good results with Isolagen. Could you tell me where I can get some feedback on
this treatment? I am scheduled to begin the procedure in a couple of weeks,
and it isn't cheap! It doesn't seem that anyone on this board has tried it.

What doctors have you seen in Houston and your impressions of each? I am
currently using copper peptides and glycolic peels, but may be ready to do
something more in a year or so. I also live in the Houston area and have
researched some of the doctors on the Internet. It seems they all specialize
in liposuction and breast enhancement. Can't find much about treatment for
acne scars. Thanks for the info.
