  For Sandovaal -- Jane, 04:22:29 04/19/03 Sat

Hi, I read your response to Ashley regarding microdermabrasion. Thank you very
much. This was useful information for me as I am thinking about this
procedure, too. Can I ask you a couple more questions? What do you think are
the risks of microderm? You wrote that it seemed to help a rolling scar. What
is a rolling scar, exactly? Did you have enlarged pores before the treatment?
If so, was it helpful at all. How many treatments did you get before you
noticed a difference? I'd really appreciate your information and advice.
  Thanks in advance!

  CB.. -- Steve, 21:38:45 04/18/03 Fri

CB.. Well before i got my lift performed the quality of my skin was just very
bad.. Not so much suffering from alot of deep scarring.. But i had alot pits
(visible pores) to go along with some medium depth scars on my cheek and
  temple...

Since my lift.. All my scars have approved in appearance by some 45-50%.. On
one particular scar ive probably had a good 75% percent improvement..I still
have visibile pores showing, but the overall quality of the pitted areas have
improved by some 45%.. When i put lotion on, it def helps the apperance of my
  skin..

Im hoping to get some other peels done.. And if the Dr. Recommends i may even
get another Exoderm done..Right now im using retin A on my skin.. and it seems
to be helping some.. So hopefully in with time, exercise, and proper skin care
my skin will start to improve drastically..

  Dont give up hope!

   Morgan / Jack / Update -- Cityslicker, 13:04:30 04/18/03 Fri

Morgan: yes, as I understand, that is how needling works by breaking down the
scar tissue. Also, I think I lost a little bit of the improvement at about 30
days, but overall, it was worth the money spent for me and I would/will
probably do again sometime in the future. Also, I think as the collagen
re-forms underneath and the tissue rebuilds the results retained afterward are
permanent. As far as the skin scabbing, the tattoo artist said, it would only
scab where your skin bled and there were only a few places where I had a scab
and they were small pimple like spots. Its not like your whole face scabs. But
my whole face was a rasberry color everywhere he needled. And took 6-7 days to
diminish. I can still faintly see where he stopped even still today, but no
one has ever asked me about it.

Jack, I received an e-mail just yesterday about medications prescribed online
without a doctor's visit. This was spam e-mail and I know nothing of the
company. It's just I read your posting last nite and received this in my email
box today and I've put the two together. Please do your on due diligence but
  the link is below:
http://www.todaysrx.com/

Update: Its been about 4 weeks since my fat injection and cooltouch II. I'm
happy with my results, thus far. My skin texture is better and I can see
improvement in pore size. My depressed scars have improved 40-50% which is on
par with what the doctor told me but if I can retain the progress here, I will
be satisfied. I am a little concerned, as I see the improvement slipping a
little further each week, but the Dr. stated, I'd have to do at least two as I
would lose 50% after about 3 weeks. The way he explained to me, next time he
lays it down (as he says) he will cross link which will help srengthen that
area. When he said cross link he inter-locked his fingers and I assumed he was
talking about he'll inject from a different direction. But when you pay for
the procedure it includes 2 injections. His office said if a third injection
is needed it would only be $250 as they already have the fat on hand. I will
keep you updated, but will probably be another 5-6 weeks before I can take off
to drive back to Houston. :-) Cityslicker

   Subcision -- leandro, 09:56:07 04/18/03 Fri

hi people i just want you to know that subcision doesnt work. My story:

http://clearskin4me.com/viewtopic.php?t=405&start=30

1 scar become wider than the original scar. Excision is the last hope to take
  -out the scars

To Ashley: Microdermabrasion -- Sandovaal, 05:49:07 04/18/03 Fri

Hey Ashley..here's my thoughts on microderm. I have been through 10 microderms
before for my rolling and depressed scars. The microderms didn't remove the
scars but it definitely smoothened out the scars. I know some people reported
disappointing results from microderms, some said it didn't give any
  improvements at all.

I do not think microderm is the procedure to go for if you expect it to REMOVE
moderate to deep scars, and it definitely won't remove depressed saucer-shaped
scars. What it will do is smoothen the sharp and rough edges of these scars
and in my case, also lifted my rolling scars (i guess due to collagen growth).
Overall, my skin looked smoother. I'd say I had an improvement of 30 - 40% on
my scars. This was a big improvement for me, and I was satisfied with the
results. I just want to warn others from having too high an expectation before
  undergoing microderms.

And for those who still have active acne, don't go for microderms yet as it'll
break the pimple/acne from the "sucking" action of the handpiece. My face is
usually flushed after each session, but they fade within 3-4hours. Only once
did I get minor bruising, but i think it was because he was aggressive during
  that particular treatment.

In all, i think microderm works better on shallow scars and in smoothing
depressed scars, but it's not the cure-all treatment. Ciao!

  steve exoderm -- cb, 05:29:00 04/18/03 Fri

  Steve:

Thank you for updating us on your progress so far w/Exoderm. I'd be interested
to find out what Dr Rullan suggests on another treatment. Speaking of Dr.
Rullan, have you visited his site? Would you be willing to classify your
scars/results based on some of the photos he has posted? It may give us an
idea of what 45% improvement is?

I guess it's all relative if your scars are similar though. Best of luck to
you, and I hope your financial situation improves too. I'll keep you in my
  thoughts/prayers.

  To Jack -- Toni, 02:24:57 04/18/03 Fri

Hi Jack, my scars are depressed saucer type and a couple of icepick as well as
large pores. The Vigilon is working wonders on the newly closed depressed
scars from cysts that left holes in my face. The Mepiform is working on the
excision scars from having 2 holes from cysts removed, the derma e scar gel is
working on everything, use it all over my face. The Thermalift has improved
everything, no large pores and saucer scars are barely noticeable, and the two
large ones I have been trying to heal are greatly improved overnight, just had
it done yesterday. I did it more for scars than for loose skin, but i'm 43 so
the skin tighting is also very welcome.

  To Denise1 -- Beth, 01:53:08 04/18/03 Fri

Where are you having the needling done? I found a clinic located in Carmel, NY
that claims to be experienced with needling for scars. (I believe it is called
Transitions--I found their web site in a "needling" search.) They said that
they do not use a tattoo gun, but rather use some kind of needling tool. I am
thinking of making an appointment and having a test area treated. Please do
keep us posted about your results. Thanks! Beth

Rolling scars by mouth -- Jason, 00:55:10 04/18/03 Fri

Hey everyone I have these rolling scars just below my and mouth, and around my
chin. I feel they are to noticeable and I was just wondering if there is any
NON-surgical procedure that will help either heal or help reduce their
appearance. Any input will be appreciated.
  Thank you,

   ACNE SCARS-MICRODERMABRASION -- ashley, 23:56:54 04/17/03 Thu

  Hey everyone!
I'm going through a very traumatic time in my life right now. I have a
moderate amount of acne scars on both my cheeks on my face.I am currently
using Retin A 0.1% which I have been using for approximately 6 months now. I
have seen few results.I am considering microdermabrasion for my scars and the
red marks left over. I was wondering if anyone here as had the procedure done
and what results you have had. Also, I am currently getting Kenalog injections
into the keloid like bumps on my back. Have you had success with any of these
  treatments? Please respond. Thanks

  toni / your success -- jack, 22:48:45 04/17/03 Thu

Congratulations on your success and I hope you are now living it up and really
enjoying yourself, especially with the summer just around the corner. It
sounds like the vigilon and mepiform have helped you, but it also sounds like
things that would work for raised scarring, rather than for depressions and
icepicks as I have. I was wondering what kind of scars you had, and also what
type of scars the vigilon, mepiform, and the radio-frequency stuff you had
  worked on.

  mel 5058/ dermal grafting -- jack, 22:44:00 04/17/03 Thu

  Hi,

To be honest, I don't really see that much of a difference between taking skin
from the belly button rather than from behind the ears. The procedure is still
basically the same, and I think the reason I'd be hesitant about it is because
of the excision part of it. the idea of cutting out a part of the skin seems
somewhat counterprouductive, because we're trying to make it grow more. Of
course, it's very possible that things will end up better because collagen
will grow back correctly (and of course, using lasers are the same as well
because you're removing skin), but the excision still bothers me. I also don't
think that skin from a different area grafted onto the face will ever look the
same as natural face skin, no matter what you do. I think we've all realized
that facial skin is far different than skin anywhere else on the body. Also,
because of the nature of the procedure, I've always looked at
excision/grafting as a sort of last resort. The result will probably be the
same no matter what your scars look like (assuming they're getting deeper and
not wider) since you're just excising it anyway. So I've always thought it
better to try less invasive procedures, or procedure that work directly on the
scar (such as needling or subcision) first.

But that's just my opinion. I don't recall seeing any pictures of any sort of
grafting so I don't know. If you do decide on the procedure, good luck and I
hope you get the results you are looking for.

Finally found the solution! -- Toni, 22:34:36 04/17/03 Thu

I really want to let everyone know what has worked wonders for my acne scars.
My Dr. gave me a wound dressing called Vigilon to use on the open lesions I
have had for months. This stuff closed the wounds in just a few days. She
wants me to contiue to use the Vigilon to further heal and flatten the scars
and then I am to apply a scar tape called Mepiform. I have used the mepiform
on another healed scar and it is working quickly to flatten it. The other
thing that is really making a huge difference is applying Derma E Scar Gel to
my entire face every night. I read about this on another board and it is
  really helping a lot! Yesterday I had a Thermage-Thermalift-Thermacool
treatment done and today my skin is beautiful! Wrinkles and scars are gone and
I am amazed! This is a very painful radio-frequency laser treatment -
nonablative, so I have no sign of having the treatment just yesterday. It cost
$1200 with my Dr. in Indianapolis for the full face and it was worth the pain
and the money. I think I am finally finished trying every product, treament
and makeup to look better. This is truly a dream come true for me. Hope this
  can help others as well.

   Eric -- Denise1, 22:27:58 04/17/03 Thu

Hey Eric! I am doing very well. Skin looks pretty good. I'm on Retin A micro
0.1% also. My scars have significantly reduced. I think it's mainly because
I've done many different things; including the V-Beam treatments.

I'm going to get some needling done ~TOMORROW~. I'm kinda nervous but also
excited about it, too. I will probably get it done a few times. But I'm really
looking forward to it. The lady doing it has done it before and was trained in
it. So I'm really happy to have found her!

I'll let everyone know how the needling goes.

Glad that the Retin A micro is working for you. Vitamin B5 and AcneMiracle
products are good, too. I'm taking B5 and Retin A micro, and I still do a peel
about once a month or so.

I'm glad that I've done everything I've done. I thought for certain I would
have to go very invasive, but that hasn't been the case at all. I'm grateful
for this board and all of the information on it.

My skin on my right cheek looks really, really, really good. My left cheek is
the one with small icepicks and other shallow scars. I'm hoping that needling
will help a lot, even if I have to get it done several times.

  That's what's up with me.

Hi Steve, Denise & All -- Eric, 21:34:18 04/17/03 Thu

Hi everybody... especially Denise and Steve, I haven't spoken to you guys
lately... been rather busy, and not all good :P. Unfortunately after many
months of pretty clear skin, my acne decided to make a return appearance. I'd
been using Retin-A Micro for about two weeks and was having nasty flair-ups,
especially on my forehead. So I went back to see Dr. Becker (Exoderm doctor)
in Walnut Creek and now I am using Retin-A Micro 0.1% a night and also Dynacin
(Minocycline) once daily. My face has cleared up in a hurry, only a few old
pimples still on my forehead. I've had to stop the Skin Biology products and
am just using the Retin-A Micro, which I suspect may have been the reason for
my initial acne problems anyway... since it initially exacerbates the
inflammatory lesions because it brings all the stuff up from under the skin to
the surface. I think the Retin-A has been beneficial because I started
clearing up only a day or two after I visited Becker, not long enough for the
Dynacin to have had this effect.

Anyway, to make a long story short, my acne is tentatively under control. I
really like the Retin-A Micro. My scars are definitely much more shallow and
smoother than they were a year ago. My mom (who has used Retin-A for four
years), said that she had a few little depressions on her face from old
break-outs that the Retin-A got rid of... and her face looks perfect. So,
Steve old pal, I think you are on the right track that long-term use of
Retin-A can help scarring, at least if it's not too deep.

Steve, sorry to hear about your less-than-perfect results so far... :(. It
does sound like Dr. Rullan is trying hard to get your skin in good shape and
that he is providing so much after-care to you free of charge is great. Yes,
unfortunately one Exoderm Lift cannot wipe out scars completely, but the
picture of the Exoderm girl with the deep acne scars shows that repeated ones
can work wonders... too bad that the Lifts cost so much. But hey, let's face
it, not even laser can wipe out scars effectively, most good results I've seen
on SHALLOW acne scars with CO2 laser was after 2 treatments. Steve, maybe ask
Dr. Rullan if subcision can help you in your case...? Many doctors combine
subcision with laser for good results, maybe Dr. Rullan can help with that
too. But definately keep using Retin-A, and probably ask Dr. Rullan about
antibiotics like Minocycline if your acne is not too bad... this will help
control the breakouts and not thin your skin like Accutane.

Denise, how are you? Have you had the Smoothbeam laser treatments done? I
heard those are FDA approved for treating acne scars (about time something
was!!) How is is working? I myself am interested in subcision and the "gentle
laser treatments" of Dr. Adrianna Scheiber, apparently the only doctor who
uses this technique with CO2 laser for scars. She has some very good results
on all kinds of different scars and stretch marks. Also, that new filler where
they take your fibroblasts and replicate them sounds interesting... can't
remember what that's called but I think you know what I mean.

Also, there is a web site that talks about alpha lipoic acid and its effects
on acne scarring and scars from cleft palate surgery... sounds good. Might be
  of interest:

RE: Ping, Lola, Stranger: Artecoll filler -- Sandovaal, 17:28:31 04/17/03 Thu

To Lola, thanks for the input. I'll ask him whether IPL/ laser/microderm could
  be continued after using Perlane.

To Ping, Dr Khoo uses Artecoll but he has to order them from abroad as he
doesn't have the supply currently. I didn't ask him about the cost of Artecoll
injection, but I'll do that Wednesday :-p.

From what I read, Artecoll is a permanent filler. But surprisingly, when I
asked him about the permanency, he said Artecoll isn't
  permanent(hmm?http://www.yestheyrefake.net/injectable_fillers_micro_implants.htm
) but definitely lasts longer than Perlane. I'll ask him about the duration of
  Artecoll next week.

By the way, Dr Woffles Wu of Camden Medical does Perlane too, but if I
remembered correctly from my last consultation, he's charging S$600 for
Perlane filler alone. His charges are comparatively higher than other
  surgeons, just so you know.

To Stranger : What kind of scars do you have? How did the AHA treatment go?
  Does it smoothen skin texture?

  Here's Dr Khoo's site: www.andrewkhoo.com

  Ciao guys!

  re: fillers -- ping, 14:08:51 04/17/03 Thu

Daniel, thks for replying to me!!
one question however, how much does the collagen injection cost you?? Would
  you try it again?

  Sandovaal,thks also.
You have any ideas what is the cost of having like perlane alone by Dr Andrew?

To all, just a little update on myself, I tried three cooltouch treatments and
i ain't seeing results. I really worried I am wasting $$ at the end of the six
treatments. It is not cheap either.
Everyday, I using retin-A. It's good actually Skin feel less oily
I am from singapore, so i think permanent filler like artceoll wouldn't be
arriving here so soon..correct me if I wrong.

I plan to give this perlane a shot and hopefully I can post postitive results
  if I get it done.

  Sandovaal -- Lola, 11:57:45 04/17/03 Thu

I'm glad to hear the subcision & perlane went well. I have read somewhere else
that injecting a filler straight after subcision keeps the scar base elevated
so it doesn't stick down again. Please do keep us posted with your news. When
you speak with your dr about artecoll, will you ask him whether you can have
laser/IPL after artecoll? I had considered artecoll but because it consists of
little plastic beads, I was worried that they might melt/deteriorate with
  laser/IPL.

to leandro on subcision -- drift, 11:35:57 04/17/03 Thu

hi, i am also from the philippines. where'd you get your subcision done? what
sorts of scars you had done? icepick? rolling? if it's not too much trouble,
could you email me the doctor's name and where i could get in touch with
  him/her? my email is

weird acne questions -- Mike from CT, 11:28:31 04/17/03 Thu

Hey everyone, my first time at this site. I'm 14 and I have these small
pimples (not whiteheads or blackheads) that are on my forehead, top of my
cheeks and a little on my chin. It's not very bad but it bothers me very much.
For weeks I've been putting Neosporin on them before I go to sleep and it just
plain doesnt work. I don't think it's because of puberty because I had my
puberty pimples at 12. Any help as to what I should do would be greatly
  appreciated, thanks!

Update on Subcision + Perlane Treatment -- Sandovaal, 11:23:34 04/17/03 Thu

Hey people! It has been 2 days since my subcision & Perlane treatment and my
depressed & rolling scars are gone. I don't want to sound overly optimistic,
but as far as I can see right now... the scars are not on my face anymore:-)To
Ping: the whole procedure costs S$1600 for the subcision + 2 syringes of
  Perlane.

The procedure took about an hour, excluding the half-hour wait for the
anaesthetic cream to take effect. With James Taylor music in the background
(after much haggling with his assistant):-p, he went to work on my round
depressed scar on my lower right cheek with 5 - 6 Perlane injections (no
subcision here). Perlane comes prepacked in 0.7ml syringes which looks like
clear gel (he assured me it wasn't water :p)

Next, he worked on my temple areas where the rolling scars were. He first
subcised the area followed immediately by the Perlane injection, after which
he would apply pressure (to relieve swelling I supposed) on the area with his
fingers. The subsequent injections hurt, not acutely painful, but rather like
having a bad bruise. Nevertheless, I swore I had a headache after the
  treatment.

The subcision needle he used wasn't the cutter-type but a bevelled-tip needle.
The subcisions didn't hurt a bit nor did I hear any strands breaking, but Dr
Khoo said he could feel the cutting of the strands and that it was an amazing
feeling (he seemed genuinely excited while saying this). I had minimal
bleeding and no apperance of blood clots after the treatment. However, I did
have minor swelling from the Perlane injections on my temples. They hurt when
I touch them..but they are subsiding everyday and the pain is almost gone.

I'll have to wait until the swelling has totally subsided (in 2 days I think)
before I can objectively say the treatment is a success. I'll be returning for
a follow-up consultation with Dr Khoo next Wednesday, in which I'll ask him
about Artecoll filler which he also uses. I guess in a couple of weeks, I'll
be resuming my IPL treatment to speed up the collagen growth. In all, it's
  been a great success!

Out of all the different treatments I have tried (10 microdermabrasions, 3
Intense Pulsed Light treatments), this subcision + Perlane combo has given me
the greatest improvement. I don't know whether subcision or Perlane gave me
the bulk of the improvement, but they definitely complement each other. I'll
  give another update next week!

  re: Fillers -- Mel5058, 01:29:26 04/17/03 Thu

I am contemplating getting something done call dermal grafting. They take skin
from your belly button and use it to fill. The skin it thicker than the thin
skin behind your ear. My derm says he is one of the few who do it but
supposedly it works well and is from the research I have done on the internet,
it is permanent as opposed to collagen etc which is temporary.

I have not scheduled this yet. It is not very expensive. Approx $700 to get 8
  scars done, plus microdermabrasion.

  Sean -- Denise1, 22:43:26 04/16/03 Wed

I got one 35% TCA peel. I have mixed scars, mostly shallow, a few chicken pox,
a few tiny icepicks, one boxcar. These are mostly on my cheeks and forehead. I
didn't have cystic acne, but I did have moderate to severe acne at one time.
Therefore, my scars aren't the deep, rolling kind.

TCA peels aren't going to do but so much for any kind of scars, but 2 TCA
peels will probably do much better than one. The BioMedic TCA peel is better
in my opinion because it is self-timing. But as I said before, 2 to treat
shallow scars might be quite helpful. But I would recommend Skin Biology CP
Serum to use with Retin A or peels after the skin has healed and a regular
regimen is resumed to continue the healing process.

  Jack.. Retin A -- Steve, 20:42:40 04/16/03 Wed

Jack.. If you live in Souther California Tijuana is a place you can obtain
  Retin A without prescribtion..

Actually you can get a stronger version of Retin A called Isotrex in Mexico..
Its only like 20 - 25 a bottle.. ANd it will last a few months.. Isotrex isnt
legal in the United States.. But my Dr says that they may eventually allow
  Isotrex in US ...

I happen to live in San Diego so getting to mexico is faily easy.. Hopefully
you dont live to far away

  Denise -- Sean, 19:55:07 04/16/03 Wed

Denise, how many TCA peels and at what strength have you had? Can you tell me
what type of scars you have and if the TCA did anything at all for them or
  your healthy skin?
  thankyou!Sean

   Fillers -- Daniel, 18:47:32 04/16/03 Wed

Hey Ping. I would search previous posts for other people's input on temporary
and permanent fillers. I've only tried collagen; works well but expensive and
only lasts for about 3 months. Everyone is different in breaking down the
collagen but I've never heard anyone say that it lasts for more than 5 months
  before it is completely gone.

I've heard mixed opinions on Isolagen; some say it lasts, others say it
doesn't. Same with fat transfer and Fascian. I guess you have to try it before
you knock it. Also remember that it might last longer depending on the method
of injection/preparation, your body chemistry, post / combination treatments,
  diet, etc, etc.

As for permanent fillers, I am excited about silicone making a comeback and
also New-Fill (Polylactic acid). Both are not approved by the FDA yet.
Silicone (marketed as SilSkin) is undergoing clinical trials right now with
Dr. Derek Jones and Dr. Arnold Klein in LA and Dr. Orentreich in NY. Artecoll
is supposed to be permanent as well but it is supposedly only good for below
the nose and cheek areas. Check with Dr. Romano in San Francisco for more info
on artecoll. He was one of the docs that did clinical trials.

  Sandovaal... -- stranger, 12:29:24 04/16/03 Wed

hey, i used to go to face of man too. i did the AHA treatment a long time ago.
i thought Adam Chua has impossibly flawless skin. i just checked out their new
website and i presume that the IPL you had is actually called
photo-rejuvenation right? hmm.. i might consider going for that.

wow, the price of the subcision plus perlane is just too steep for me. i'm
still a student. so how did it go? well i hope...

glad to be back -- jack, 12:08:10 04/16/03 Wed

hey guys, nice to see the board is up again. I missed coming here daily. I was
wondering if anyone knew where to buy Retin-A Micro without a prescription? I
would prefer not to pa my doctor just so he can write a prescription. I
remember reading this somewhere but not sure if it was here. I actually used
retin-A micro a long time ago for treating acne, but it didn't work very well.
it ended up making things worse, actually, because it was way too irritating.
But I'd like to try it again on just one scar (spot treat it) because the skin
there has a totally different texture and I'm hoping to fix that. I've been
trying glycolic acid (30%) but that doens't seem to be working. Thanks.

Hi Steve. I hope and pray you can get some $$$ soon so you can get more work
done. But a 45% or more improvement is wonderful. Much better than nothing.
It's good to hear from you.

Paul, I have gotten a TCA peel and it doesn't do but so much for even shallow
scars. It probably HELPS them, but it does tone and tighten your skin really
good and helps some shallow scars to a great degree. You should carefully
consider getting one late in the year, though, right before spring and summer.
You have to be extra extra careful about getting out in the sun. You can burn
really bad in just a few minutes. Some doctors won't even do a TCA peel this
  time of year.

I would wait until the fall and look for a doctor who the BioMedic TCA peel.
It's self-timing and you can get more than one if you want, which a lot of
  people do.

I got one, and decided to give needling a shot to continue treating my scars.
I have an appt. on Friday.

If I were you, I would wait until the fall, unless you absolutely aren't going
to be in the sun at all for any reason this summer. But I would also get on
Retin A and Skin Biology's CP Serum to continue treating your scars. I've not
done anything invasive at all and have done various things over the past year
or so and have had incredible improvement on many of my scars. Not all have
improved greatly, ofcourse, but a boxcar type scar and a few shallow ones have
improved at least 70%. And this was just doing a few topical non-invasive
  procedures.

But to reiterate, a TCA peel isn't going to do but so much. You would probably
need a couple before seeing much improvement.

Hi Guys.. Hope You some of you remember me.. Its Steve..Exoderm Guy -- Stevie,
  00:42:17 04/15/03 Tue

HI..Guys.. Im sure some of you remember me.. ITs Steve, Exoderm guy #1 =).. I
do apologize for not updating in so long.. Ive been going through alot of
personal struggles and i top of the fact that i no longer own a computer its a
bit challenging getting to you guys.. But i promise you guys that i will be
  come on more frequently now...

Well Guys.. Its been 1 year since my exoderm lift and my improvements have
been so so..I got my lift done on March 25, 2002 by Dr. RUllan, whom many of
  you are familar with..

THe overall quality of my skin has improved some 45% or so, maybe a bit
higher, its always hard estimating improvements, since i really dont remember
what my face look liked back then.. But im def not completely satisfied..
And on top of that since my lift ive actually gotten a few more scars on my
face.. After my lift Dr Rullan put me on Accutane to help stimulate more
collagen growth, but apparently the Accutane somewhat "thinned" my skin making
my skin more accesible to scarring.. I have a few shallow added scars on my
temple.. Which sucks, but ohh well..And every pimple i get, theres a good
chance it will leave a minor scar, even when i dont pop or touch it..

Since my original lift ive gotten the third Phase exoderm application done to
go along with N-Light and jessner peel procedure done on my face to help the
scarring..The Third Phase and N-Light procedure were done at no extra Cost by
Dr. Rullan..But infortunately ive had minor improvement from the extra
  treatments..

I am Currently using Retin-A on my scars.. From what i understand consistent
prolong use of Retin A on scars may be wonders for scars.. So i guess only
time will tell what kind of improvements i will have..

The Redness from the original procedure is pretty much gone.. My face is still
somewhat pink i guess, but nothing bad..

Im going through some horrible financial times right now so getting some other
treatment dont is out of the question.. For those interested in getting the
Exoderm Lift dont, just to inform you people with deep scarring, simply one
lift will not get rid of your scars. You will get some improvement and with
the right after care you should get good improvement..But to really see
drastic results you may need to get several lifts done..

I am currently taking muti-vitamins everyday and working out relgiously..IM
hoping getting in shape will improve the condition of my sking as well..

Hey Kit, I hope you are doing well from your Exoderm, do you feel it was worth
  it?

Eric, im sure you're still around.. How are you doing? How is your skin doing?
Learn anything new or interesting that will help us..

Dr. Rullan!.. I hope you're still around..Sorry i havent been to your office
in a while.. Just going through alot of personal issues.. But hopefully ill be
  in your office soon.
Quick Question Dr.. Would you recommend another Exoderm Lift for my face? or
possibly another type of peel that will help.. I cant afford anything right
now, but maybe in time i will be able to..

Anyone in the San Diego area looking for a Dermatologist.. Dr. Rullan is by
far the best Dr. ive come across in the Area..

To Everyone! I know alot of us are suffering a great deal because of our
situation.. But remember you must stay strong.. I get down a great deal
nowadays, but i always remember that God is only putting us in this situation
to humble us and strenghthen Us..OUr Pain And suffering in the end is here to
make us stronger.. So let us all rely on God to Leads us to our Cure...Have
Faith, and it shall happen for everyone.. Stay Strong and Stay Positive..

IF any of you guys have question feel free to E-mail or post here.. I'll def
be around more often.. I do sincerly apoligize for not updating in a long
while.. I shall make up for it..

  Bye For now..

Chemical Peels (TCA) -- Paul, 22:37:17 04/14/03 Mon

I am thinking of getting a TCA peel done as i have lots of acne scars,
especially on the left side of my face on my cheeks and jaw (nice!)... when i
look up close in a mirror they look AWFUL... in fact it makes me feel sick...

Has anyone had this procedure done for shallow acne scars... does it work and
  are complications common?

Like everyone else on this board I am looking for a way to boost my self
confidence and the way i see myself.

I have looked at a lot of before and after photos but they all seem to employ
lighting tricks and even then they are probably picked from 1000`s of cases
and you can`t see the texture of the skin.

If you have had any experience with TCA chemical peels or alike I would love
to hear from you , either here or via email

  Thanks guys

  San Francisco Needling-BNB Tattoo -- babycakes, 17:11:57 04/14/03 Mon

Could the person who went to Black and Blue Tattoo for needling please post
their follow up results? I just went there last week and Idexa ( great tatoo
artist) did my face for around 200, she mentioned she'd done 6 people and no
one had come back for a follow up. I was wondering if this was because it
worked and nothing more was needed. or it just didn't work and you all moved
to somthing else. Any one else out there who had needling done; did you have
  good results??!!!

   To Stranger: -- Sandovaal, 08:01:10 04/14/03 Mon

I went to Face of Man at Bukit Timah Plaza. Cost per IPL treatment is S$180.
  Each treatment lasts 10-15 minutes.

They start by cleansing your face, followed by the IPL. The handpiece is
placed on the areas to be treated and a short burst of light and heat is
emitted. They usually do 5 flashes on each side of my face, after which I
would catch whiffs of burning skin :-). But don't be alarmed as it doesn't
hurt at all. An ice-pack would then be placed over each treated area
immediately. Each session is topped off with a wash-off mask.

Went for the consultation (S$80) with Dr Khoo this morning and he recommended
a Subcision + Perlane filler combination treatment for my rolling and
depressed scars. For my open pores and smaller scars, he recommended a
CoolTouch + IPL combo (which I wouldn't undergo as I am already undergoing IPL
  at FaceOfMan).

Each Subcision + Perlane treatment will cost S$800 and he recommended a total
of 2 treatments for my case as I have one rather wide depressed scar which he
said alone will require one vial of Perlane. The other vial will be used for
  the other scars.

Perlane is a temporary filler that lasts about one year before it gets broken
down by the body. He claims most of his patients do not need to return for a
Perlane top-up after the procedure. Anyway, I'll be going for the
subcision/perlane treatment tomorrow morning and will keep you posted. Hope it
  works!

  Sandovaal........ -- stranger, 22:43:11 04/13/03 Sun

can you give me the name of the clinic/s you went to for the IPL? How much are
you charged for it? Also for your subcision, how much does Dr. Khoo charge and
the extent of work being done on the scars? Thanks.

RE: Subcision in Singapore -- Sandovaal, 14:00:30 04/12/03 Sat

I have made an appointment with Dr Andrew Khoo from Mount Elizabeth this
coming Monday regarding subcision for my rolling and pitted scars. From my
conversation with this assistant, I understand he offers a pretty interesting
method of treatment in that, depending on the severity of the scars, he
performs subcision in conjunction with injectable Perlane filler. This seems
promising to me. For smaller scars, he recommends IPL with CoolTouch.
I have had 3 IPL treatments(in other clinics) and I am very satisfied with the
results. It has diminished my pore size, evened out my skin tone and in my
opinion, "plumped up" my depressed scars (I must stress the scars are still
  present).
By the way, how much does Dr Cheong charge for the subsicion? Keep us informed
of your subcision results :p Good luck!

  To Lisa -- Eve, 13:43:27 04/12/03 Sat

I have also been using the TriReduction Combo with the copper peptides for a
little over two months. I am beginning to see a little progress on some old,
moderate scars on my face. However, I have been using the glycolic acid peels,
beginning with 30% and working up to 50% on a particular old, ugly scar on my
leg and it is now improved about 30%. (I also use the 40% and 50% strength on
my face, but not as aggressively as my leg.) If you believe glycolic acid may
be too strong for you, go to makeupartistchoice.com and send an email to Kathy
and ask her opinion. She has worked with people who have all types of
scarring, including burn victims. Tell her what you are currently doing to
your face. You don't have to worry about her trying to sell you products. She
might suggest using a lactic peel. All of these types of procedures take much
longer than surgical procedures, but if a surgical procedure is not an option
for you, it is possible you will get results if you are consistent with the
copper peptide routine and hang in there. I read of one lady who had a very
bad scar on her knee that virtually disappeared after using the copper
peptides for 8 months. I don't know how long I will continue with the routine,
but I am committed to stay with it for 6 months and then evaluate my progress.
  Good luck to you!

Give me 5 face gum? -- Lisa, 07:37:51 04/12/03 Sat

Hi! I am 28 years old and currently I have been using copper peptide serum and
exfol serum for the acne scars on my face for the last 7 weeks and I see very
little result's. I know it is still to soon to see major result's but I read
that if you use a 30% acid peel you have a greater chance at seeing better
result's. I am afraid about using an acid peel because I have sensitive skin
so I had passed up a product called Give me 5 face gum. It supposed to simply
roll dead cells and debris from your skin, gently, quickly and in about only 5
min. The product is put out by Andrea Abbott.I would deeply appreciate if
someone could please lead me in the right direction with all of this. I have
been feeling really down lately and I'm just hoping for some help. Thank
  you!!!!!

Subcision in Singapore -- Nick, 02:38:41 03/29/03 Sat

  Age : 28
  Gender : Male
  Country : Singapore

Has anyone from Singapore gone for subcision? I went to consult Dr Cheong from
Mt Elizabeth and she recommended subcision was the best way of getting rid of
my scars. I will be going for subcision this coming week.I really hope there
will be improvement on those ugly scars.

  Cityslicker -- Lynn, 00:50:57 03/29/03 Sat

Thanks so much for responding! My appt. is Mon. afternoon for smoothbeam
discussion. I'm probably going to go ahead with it...

   Cityslicker -Thanks -- Morgan, 19:05:32 03/28/03 Fri

Thanks for the re-cap. So you would say your results are permanent from the
procedure? Are you/were you also using topicals? Did you allow your skin to
  scab over?

I have heard from others who had needling that they feel that the needles
"break down" scar tissue, is this what you feel has happened in your case? Or
perhaps you feel that needling works by some other method?

Thanks again and good luck with your misson!

   CB / Charlotte / Isologen -- Cityslicker, 09:44:23 03/28/03 Fri

CB & Charlotte, thank you for the support. I'm also interested in Isologen and
may fly to England to have this done in Sept.-Oct. time-frame. I'm still
undecided as to which option to pursue. If Isologen was available in the U.S.,
I'd probably just do that hands down.

Most of everything I've read on Isologen has been positive. Originally it was
being done in 1998 here in the U.S. with very good results. Unfortunately, the
FDA stepped in and halted the procedure saying they needed to see more testing
to insure that the procedure was safe. In the meantime, revenues declined, FDA
dragged their feet (and still dragging, IMO) and the company almost completely
went out of business. Fortunately for us, some new investors stepped in, took
control of the direction of the company and pursued growth outside the U.S.
where the government regulations are not quite as stringent. As of this year,
they have been approved to market in England and Australia. They applied for
and received a listing on the AMEX stock exchange in January. They are
positioning themselves for growth in the U.S. and have met one of the
requirements of the U.S. and have an operating Lab Facility presently in
Houston, Tx., their Headquaters. I have communicated numerous times with their
Customer Relations Representative (Belinda Long) by E-mail. She has informed
me that there is a chance they could be approved by the end of the year or
before, but they just don't know, yet. They hope to have better clarification
after April 10th, and I can let you know more as she advised, she would keep
  me posted.

From my understanding Isologen is effective on acne scars, depressions, lines
and wrinkles. For best results, you need to get 3 injections 2 weeks apart.
She advised me, they had one patient that was injected 7 years ago and she is
still very happy with the results and has not seen any degradation in the
areas treated. She also stated, they are working with the FDA now, and will
let me know once they get clarification from the FDA. Here is a good link for
  more details:
http://www.isolagen.com/UKver/pages/isolagenme/howitworks.htm

Charlotte, I think that makes good sense for you to wait and sounds like the
perfect treatment option for you. In my research for Skin Needling, I ran
across several permanent make-up artists, (the one's that do permanent eye
liner etc.) that also offer camaflouge make-up for burn victims. You might do
a search or inquire if someone in your area offer's these services and could
help your situation or offer guidance in that direction. Another link to
  pursue is posted below:
http://www.makeupartistschoice.com/ if you'll check
out their website and E-mail the lady that runs the website (Kathy, I believe,
is her name, but I wouldn't swear to that) from other postings I've read, she
is very nice lady and gladly offers advice and tips on her products. She may
be able to give you some direction or recommendations. If I'm not mistaken,
she used to be a professional make-up artist. Anyway, not certain on the Kathy
name. Good-luck, I do wish you well.

   Lynn / Smoothbeam -- Cityslicker, 08:47:12 03/28/03 Fri

  Lynn,

Both lasers are similiar, they both use lasers to penetrate the underlying
dermis to stimulate and remodel collagen growth. They both use a protective
cryogen spray that actually cools the top layer of skin, allowing the laser
light to penetrate deeper. This cooling protects the sensitive surface skin
layer and nerve endings, while the laser stimulates the fibroblasts deep in
the dermis (second layer of skin) where new collagen is generated, the laser
energy is absorbed by that dermal layer of skin tissue where it triggers a
repair mechanism and begins to rebuild and replenish its own natural collagen.
Results are achieved from the inside out!

Basically, they both work similiarly, just different manufactuers. The
smoothbeam uses a 1450 nm laser and the cooltouch II is a 1320 nm laser
system.

   Morgan / Skin Needling -- Cityslicker, 08:43:51 03/28/03 Fri

Morgan, yes, I was pleased with Skin Needling for the dollars spent. Here's my
  cut'n'paste of previous results.

I definately see an improvement. And, for the money spent, was the best
investment I've made to date. Some of my smallers scars and wrinkles have
improved from 10-30%. My larger scars not as significant, maybe 5-10%. But
realize, I have over 100 scars of various sizes, icepicks, large pores,
fingernail indents, etc.,etc. Just be advised, that when I say a 20-30%
improvement on scars, its little baby large pores, not quite ice pick. Overall
improvement, not dramatic, but significant enough to me, that I would
certainly try again when I'm able to take 5-6 days off.

About 3 years ago I spent over $3000 for 35 micro-dermabrasions and seen about
5% improvement, and in comparison to dollars spent Skin Needling was a good
investment for me. But I didn't get the dramatic improvement I was hoping for
on my larger scars. My smaller scars were improved, and I am making progress,
but unfortunately, this endeavor is a slow process.

Wait for Isolagen? -- Charlotte, 06:02:17 03/28/03 Fri

First of all, I appreciate your detailed post about fat transfer, City
Slicker, as I have considered fat transfer before and I'm in Houston. I'll be
following your future posts with much interest.

The only thing I have tried for my moderate to severe acne scarring is one
subcision from Dr. Rapaport last summer, and I was comtemplating my next move.
I was seriously considering a second subcision, which the dr. said I would
need to show the most benefit. I think my scarring improved some, but I can't
really tell for sure how much.

However, when Heidi in London posted that she was getting Isolagen done soon
and it would be in parallel with a subcision, it peaked my interest that these
two procedures might be performed together. Basically, your scar tissue is
broken up below the surface, then your own collagen is injected back into the
subcised areas. Supposedly the injected fibroblasts/collagen is accepted by
your body because they are your own cells, so it is long lasting. Sounds good
to me. Heidi, please let us know when you get it done and how it went.

I called Dr. Boss in NJ who is in the same office as Dr. Rapaport. He's the
one who patented the Isolagen process. I talked to a man in his office and
asked him to confirm with Dr. Boss that it was indeed performed with
subcision. He called me back and said that it was Dr. Boss who taught the
physicians in London how to combine the procedures for improved results, etc.

Dr. Boss' opinion was that I should wait for Isolagen to be approved here,
then get it done all together. It seems like that would end up saving me $$
also. I wonder if Dr. Boss would be coming to Houston to show physicians here
how to do it - hey, I'd like to be his live demonstration subject. I don't
think I'll be traveling to NJ for this treatment when the time comes, because
it involves multiple specifically spaced out visits - yikes that'd be
  expensive.

One reason that we aren't being told when FDA approval is coming is to avoid
insider trading of their stocks. Even if they knew, they couldn't divulge that
info. So anyway, I'm going to try to be patient and wait for it. The only
thing that makes me want to rush out and try something else is that probably
this summer I'll be meeting my boyfriend's kids and his mom for the first time
and I'll feel self conscience because of the first impression I know I make on
people. I know once they get used to me, they'll not notice it as much - but
that first impression when they first lay eyes on my face - ouch! I hate that.

Does anyone know of an excellent make-up product that gives great results in
softening the appearance of defective skin?

  Take Care,
  Charlotte

  CitySlicker -- cb, 23:48:50 03/27/03 Thu

  CitySlicker:

Thanks for the detailed post on your most recent procedure. Man I can tell you
are on a mission, needling, now CT II and F. Transfer. I really hope you get
some good results with the series you just purchased.

I know this is a long tough road, but admire your tenacity. I'm looking at
driving 8+ hours to doc who is very knowledgable in subscision for my next
treatment. I had needling done in Jan. I really think finding the right doc is
1/2 the battle. Good scar docs are a rarity where I live-Oregon.

How much research have you done on isolagen? I know its availble is Australia
and UK, but is still in the trial stages in the US. It still has to be FDA
approved. As much as I hate to say it, I'm thinking between 6-18 months before
its approved. And that might be optimistic? I think it sounds like a good
alternative since its your own DNA/collagen that's used as the filler.
Supposedly it is long lasting too.

Best of luck, looking fwd to hearing your progress.

going for a consultation regarding using the smoothbeam laser for atrophic
acne scars. It's been FDA approved for scars for a little over a year with
good success on some patients. It also takes 3-4 treatments and patience!
  Thanks for your input.

  hypnosis -- jeni, 19:45:39 03/27/03 Thu

I have mild to moderate acne scarring and have been thinking about trying
hypnosis. A lot of people claim to heal their bodies of cancer, grow larger
breasts, etc. Also, I read of a case where a woman had her breasts reduced but
they grew back very quickly. Possibly because that was what her mind believed
she should look like. Could this be why some of us have not had success with
certain procedures? Has anyone tried hypnosis to stimulate collegen and heal
  their skin?
(If their is another jeni poster on this board I'm sorry. I'm a new poster.)

To ANY BODY WHO UNDERGO SUBCISION -- leandro, 11:52:17 03/27/03 Thu

hi EVERY one who experience subcision. My 3 scars are shallow nor deep(in
between). But they are all rolling scar types. The doctor did prescribe me
Cephalexin 500mg and Tranexamic Acid 500mg(brand name is Hemostan) both for 5
days. Hemostan is for the treatment of blood clot and hemorrhage. I was
subcised last friday on march 21. I take all this medication until monday(3
days only). then shifted on vitamic c.
My bondages was taken-off by my derm last monday. I take a warm bath at
tuesday. At wednesday(yesterday), i have a strange feeling that 2 of my scars
have sunk back, definitely i frankly want to say no improvement takes place,
swelling went down on 2 scars only redding of the face remains. My other scar
is still elevated but there is only a very small swelling remains( i havent
seen it sunk down yet). I frankly want to say subcision really sucks. If one
of my other scar sunks after 3 weeks , I would say that it aint worth my money
  spending it.

I hear collagen being cut on the 1 scar(still raised). The 2 other scars I
didn’t hear collagen tearing. The first scar took long enough my derm to
subcise and has many blood in it.(about3 minutes). The other 2 scars(which
sunk back down) took only 2 minutes altogether. Maybe it was the Hemostan and
the antibiotics that cause the 2 scars to sunk back down. Why is it in this
forum that some people wrote their experience in subcision took 3 to 4 weeks
the swelling to fade. I think the longer the swelling the better the result.
Can you please enlighten me why is it , mine took only 5 days to subcise(the
sweelings) to sunk back-down(the scars). WHY????is it because I am taking
these oral hemostan and cefalexin? Do you think i should go for another
  subcision after 2 months
with these 2 scars that sunk back.

Cooltouch II / Fat Transfer -- Cityslicker, 09:42:35 03/27/03 Thu

Monday I had Cooltouch II and Fat Transfer done. I drove 4 hours to Houston to
see Dr. Capriotti. I purchased 3 Cooltouch II treatments for $1200. They are
$450 a piece, but he gave me a discount for pre-paying. Also, I paid $1500 for
  Fat Transfer.

He said it's best to start with 3 Cooltouch II then evaluate if additional
needed. His assistant performed the cooltouch and stated a lot of people will
only do one treatment and when they don't see any improvement, don't come
back. She said, you have to be patient and realize collagen is being built and
takes up to 6 months for results.

He also performs Exoderm and CO2 Laser Peel. She said, I'd probably benefit
real well with Laser and that Exoderm was pretty effective on wrinkles, but
that she would recommend Laser over the Exoderm for my scars. I'm still
undecided, as I've been planning for several months to have Exoderm done and
was surprised she felt the Laser would be better for me. Dr. Capriotti also
recommended Laser over Exoderm back in Sept., when I first discussed with him.
I didn't ask him again this time, about Exoderm, as I discussed it with his
assistant. I looked thru his book of pictures again and he had several of
Exoderm and Laser, but only one picture of a lady with acne scars that had
Exoderm done, and one picture of a lady with acne scars that had laser done.
Both pictures of acne patients the scars were minor and there was improvement,
though, I wasn't impressed, as on both patients, scars were not dramatic to
begin with. So, I still couldn't gauge which procedure would benefit me. Also
in the Exoderm pictures he had the picture of the girl that had the 5
Exoderm's but I didn't lend much credence to that picture, as I wanted to see
actual patients he had done and see results after one treatment.

I did see some good pictures of results of both treatments on crowsfoot and
wrinkles. The Exoderm results on wrinkles is impressive. Though, he had only
about 6-10 patients in both sections. Dr. Capriotti said, that I'd have good
results with laser and may need 2 treatments. Also, he said, he uses botox on
crowsfoot wrinkles, then does laser over them. This also keeps lines from
coming back quickly, as you need to go 6 weeks or longer after surgery and
with that area being paralyzed for several months, you'll have good results
  there.

We did the Cooltouch II on Mon. and I stayed in a hotel and then I came back
Tues. for Fat Transfer on my depressions. He decided to take the fat from my
abdomen area and said I'd be getting a 2fer. Which was Liposuction and Fat
Transfer combo, as he needed to take fat from legs (thighs), buttocks or
abdomen, he would just take it from both sides of my abdomen and do a
Liposuction also. He said seriously, but I wasn't sure if he was joking, that
you want to take the fat from an area where you just can't seem to get rid of,
that way, it'll be long lasting also, when you transfer it. He said, if you
lay it down right, it should take hold and blood vessels will grow into those
areas and it will begin to live permanently. Basically, you overfill those
areas and he said, only about 50% will take and then you come back for 1-2
additional treatments. His office said, he can do Cooltouch II and Fat
Transfer on the same day, now that he has the fat stored. But these have to be
scheduled different days originally, and he only does Cooltouch II on the last
Monday of the month or every 4 weeks. He freezes the fat for later use, and if
I understood correctly, it will last indefinately in the freezer. He filled
indentions on both cheeks, on both corners of my mouth and he felt I should
  also do my chin.

My face does seem fatter but not drastically noticable. I seen my neighbor and
he was talking and standing a foot away from me, and he didn't say or ask
anything. And I went out to eat the last 2 days, grocery store, and went and
did my workout and nobody asked or said anything. So, while noticable to me,
and my face was a little bloated, it was not attention drawing noticeable. But
the results thus far, I'm extremely pleased. Yesterday it was 100%
improvement. But today, I can see I've already lost some in those areas back
to 90-95%. He said come back in 3 weeks and at that time it'll probably be
back to 50% until he lays it down again. Though, he said I could even wait for
a couple of months if I wanted, as I can't make it in 3 weeks.

He numbed the area he Liposuctioned, but it still hurt after about 5 minutes.
He'd did both sides about approx. 10 minutes but it was more of a volume
measurement for him as he was tracking the volume that he needed to take out
to insure 2-3 injections or more. The last few minutes was pretty painful and
I almost considered asking him to stop. He was asking me every few minutes or
so, are you doing alright, but I only told him it stung a little, as I wanted
him to get as much as he could for the face and the waist reduction. Though,
he did get several vials about 6 or so, I think, maybe more. My pants still
fit fairly snug, so it was not a dramatic difference, only because, he was
just taking as much fat as he need for my injections, it really wasn't meant
to be a weight loss Liposuction that people pay for. Though, I did see a
picture of one of his clients with a significant reduction.

Anyway, I've decided to attack my scars agressively and will still try
Exoderm, Laser CO2, or Isologen later this year. I also ordered the Copper
Peptides combo from Skin Biology yesterday. I'm determined to give this my
best shot and while financially draining, for me personally, it'll be worth
  every penny for dramatic improvement.

I will note, the fat injection only helps depressed area and does nothing (per
se') for scars, they still have to be treated. The scars in the depressed
areas do look slightly better, as optically the indent is gone, which tends to
draw mor attention to those areas. But if you have a pock mark, icepick, etc.,
it is still there. Anyway, I wanted to give an update of my experience and
will keep you apprised of my progress. :-) Cityslicker

Hey Mark. I have never tried that specific product, but I did overdose on MSM,
vitamin C, and zinc (plus other dietary supplements) for almost a year. The
result: my skin is no better, but my hair, which has always been lush, is more
lush than ever, and I also seem to have more hair on my limbs.... Strange.....

  Hello group:

Anyone have any experience using this product? It contains 1000mg of MSM,
Silicon, Vitamin C, Zinc, and Copper.I'm hoping it will help some acne pits on
my face.It is supposed to build collagen.

Also, I need to hear from anyone on this observation.Ever since I quit smoking
and started running 4 days/week, my rolling scar on my left cheek looks more
noticable, darker. Is it because I have better circulation now? Really bugs
  me.....

  Thanks people.....keep the faith

I would love to hear about your friends results, give me the full details if
you can. Did something go wrong? Thank you very much!

PS How did you feel about Debra?

  Poet - Seattle -- Anna, 22:31:51 03/25/03 Tue

  Hi Poet,
I went to their office and actually spoke with Debra who was the tattoo
artist. I was going to try this until I had a friend in California who had a
California tattoo artist do needling. She didn't have good results, so I nixed
it. I think there was another Voy Poster DaveB, who had it done at the clinic
I noted. You can search through the posts I think and contact him directly.
I'm not sure what his ultimate results were. Anyway, Debra was very nice and
the office was very clean. I don't remember the price, I imagine it would be
pretty reasonable compared to what a physician would charge for other scar
treatments. It wouldn't do any harm to call them.
  Good Luck!
  Anna

  To Amber -- Rob, 21:43:21 03/25/03 Tue

  Amber,

I have been using skin-bio products for 12 weeks now and have had results.

I would suggest you use the tri-reduction with retinol as it is much better
than the CP serum and also switch to the exfol cream rather then the serum.

I am unsure as to how old you are or if you suffer break-outs from acne still
but if you do skin-bio suggests that you do not use the creams and retinol.

Give the two products I mentiones a try for a while and if you see breajouts
or too much irritation just take a break and go back to the serums.

Another thing I would recommend (I use it) is the emu-oil.

It has very beneficial results on the skin as well as assiting penetration of
  the copper peptides.

I know how hard it is to be patient and I also know how up and down one can
get when they believe there is no true hope.

I can't tell you that skin-bio products will completely be rid of your scars
but with a good diet, excercise and diligent use of these products for at
least six months I do believe you will see improvement.

I wish you all the best.

  Rob

In case you don't already know: The Skinbiology website has an email address
listed and a toll free number listed if you wish to speak to Dr Pickart.
Skinbiology has a discussion forum located at
www.delphiforums.com Like with
many acne scar treatments posted it seems that results vary from person to
person. At the delphiforums site Dr Pickart has said it won't be long before
he has a super cp serum ready. Not to be confused with super cop that he just
came out with recently. Perhaps moving up to glycolic acid and that serum
could help you better. Call him. He's trying to improve results and to that I
  tip my hat to him.

   Skinbiology? -- Amber, 07:10:04 03/25/03 Tue

I have been using cp serum and exfol serum to treat the pitted and ice pick
scars on the cheek areas of my face. I know that it is to soon to see results
but I was hopeful until I read a message earlier saying that someone had been
using skinbiology for six months and see very little results. I was wondering
if I try using a glycolic acid peel would I have better results. I would
deeply appreciate any advice . Every day is a battle I really don't like
looking in the mirror anymore because that pretty face that I once ues to see
is no longer there I feel so overwhelmed as I type, my emotions are totally up
and dowwn all day long and I am very scared.I have a little beautiful 3yr. old
girl and now that the weather is getting warmmer I am even more depressed
because I would like to do a lot of outdoor activities with her and I feel so
insecure it is something that's just totally out of my hands and I feel that
this is something I know I can't fix and make it all better. I sincerely pray
for every one who suffers with acne scars and the darkness it puts us all in.
  Thank you!

to dj and heather about CO2 -- Deborah, 22:05:42 03/24/03 Mon

  DJ and or Heather,
Just wondering how things have gone after your laser resurfacing and if you
have found anything that helps to make the side effects resolve somewhat.
Haven't seen you post in a while, but would love to hear, as I am really
suffering with the decision I made to have erbium.
  Take care.

Rectify - My Input on Cooltouch -- Tess, 09:41:21 03/24/03 Mon

  Hi Enca,
I'm so sorry. The treatment i went for was IPL and not cooltouch. IPL wasn't
helpful in my case, mine's moderate scarring on cheeks. So i do hope u will
have positive experiences with cooltouch.Once again, sorry for the mix-up.

  Silicone -- Kook, 05:14:40 03/24/03 Mon

I've read some negative sentiments on the use of liquid injectible silicone as
a filler. I think in the past the use of silicone carried a high degree of
risk. But there is a new product/protocol for injection that might be
promising. The new product is SilSkin and the protocol is micro-lipoinjection.
In fact, one of my doctors strongly believes in it and has even had treatments
with it herself for her nasolabial folds. Even though it is not yet FDA
approved, off the shelf use by doctors at their professional discretion is
allowed. One of the well know doctors on filler substances is using it in
clinical trials - Dr. Arnold Klein. I also talked to Dr. Michael Kaminer in
Boston and I believe he is also doing clinical studies with it in the future.
SilSkin was developed by the Richard James company.

Dr. Adrianna Scheibner -- Anna, 00:24:39 03/24/03 Mon

Dr. Scheibner is the supposedly the undisputed queen of laser treatment. She
wrote at least one book called The Essence of Beauty and is reportedly in
India presently finishing up another. I have heard that in addition to her
practice in Australia she will be opening up a clinic in California. I tried
calling the number on her website and couldn't get through though. Did you
actually talk to Dr. Scheibner herself? If so, when was this?

She talks about extremely gentle laser treatment to rebuild tissue. The
pictures in her book are pretty impressive.

Dr. Adrianna Scheibner -- elizabeth Rohan, 22:13:47 03/23/03 Sun

Has anyone read anything about this doctor?
She is in Sydney. I've searched for help on
acne scarring. I went to Dr. Llorente in LA
and paid a lot of $$$ for a lot of nothing.
This is where I heard of this doctor from her
office. The woman that works in her office, was
ruined by laser resurfancing. She was missing
part of of lip and had holes in her skin.
She worked with Dr. Scheibener and she now
looks great. She did have fat injections done also.
I phoned Dr. Scheiber in Sydney to see what she
  really does for acne scarring.
Her treatment involves co2 at a degree of 50 to 60
centigrades for 5 to 6 hours.
The cost she quoted me was $6600.00 Aud.
Just wondered if anyone hear of her or this
  procedure.

   Human Collagen -- Mike D, 16:49:30 03/23/03 Sun

Does any one know about Cosmoderm and Cosmoplast?
Inamed Corp. has announced FDA approval of CosmoDerm and CosmoPlast human
collagen injection products for correction of facial wrinkles, lip-border
restoration, acne scars, and other soft-tissue deficiencies.

These products do not require a skin test prior to use. They contain human
collagen purified from human skin tissue. They are formulated with an
anesthetic. This allows them to be used for same-day, single-visit treatment,
the manufacturer says in a news release.

I wonder how this product will compare to Isolagen??

  cooltouch, etc -- enca, 16:32:34 03/23/03 Sun

I had a "free" cooltouch done - it didn't hurt too badly, actually, but after
a couple of weeks I don't notice anything. Not that I would expect to but... I
am planning to pass. The woman at the dermatologist has been extremely nice to
me however. I am doing microdermabrasions (bought #12-15) every few weeks at
$40 each, and after each session she is trying different peels. Last weekend
she did a 20% vitamin peel (don't know what it was exactly) - slight burning
for about give minutes, then it faded. Next weekend, she is going to try a
40%. It's free and still being a little meek and shy from acne-plagued youth,
I am apprehensive and troubled by her help, but we'll see.

In the meantime I'm using neutrogena's visibly firm copper peptide lotion and
am truly blown away. It hadn't eliminated any scars, but it definitely has
reduced their appearances over the last few months. In particular when I
awake, the skin seems very smooth. biore's pore strips also are nice. These
are the first over-the-counter things that I actually do like. I might "step
up" to the skinbiology cream which apparently is more potent, but only after
I've used up my neutrogena bottle.

Heidi, Leondro, Kit, Jon (manchester) -- Lola, 09:34:39 03/23/03 Sun

Heidi, thanks for the number. Dr Chu's office will phone me to see when he can
  fit me into his schedule.

Leondro, I was given polysporin gel/cream to use for 5 days after my
subcision. I think this is an antibiotic cream to stop infection.

Kit, I am so happy to hear that the redness is fading. It can take months for
collagen to grow and everybody's collagen grows at a different rate. I'm sure
you will see an improvement soon.

Jon, it's so good to hear from somebody in the UK. We don't seem to have many
drs and treatments here, so it's great to pool our research.

biomedics and shallow acars -- deborah, 16:55:23 03/20/03 Thu

  hi everyone,
it's me the erbium disaster girl. after wallowing for a few weeks, i finally
decided to spend some more $$ and see what else could be done. in doing some
research, i came across info about the telangitron which uses a needle and
radio frequency to seal broken veins. since every doctor in nyc is so eager to
use expensive lasers, i thought it was worth the trip to nj to check this out.
btw- it turns out that the dr.'s office is that of dr. boss and dr. rauscher.
boss goes to rappaport's office once a week to work, and is upposedly good,
but i don't know. in addition to the veins, the esthetician did the biomedic
peel, i.e. mild dermaplaning (not the physician administered week downtime
one--feels like a business card scraping your face) and glycolic. my skin is
red in places and a little scabbed from the the needle which she said was
normal. i guess my question is for those who have collagen depleted scars that
are not deep--did anyone try the biomedic approach? was there any improvement
that was lasting. the esthetician , of course, didn't promise any miracles,
but she suffers from cystic acne and her scarring is not particularly
noticeable. i know someone mentioned biomedic peels on this board, but i
  couldn't find the post.
has anyone seen significant differences with this regime? supposedly it tricks
the skin into a healing phase that causes collagen production, but isn't that
what alll of the methods from laser to needling to microderm are supposed to
do? i spent money, but feel at least something was done--every doctor charges
, but ultimately just hands me a tube of cream. i am going to do 6 biomedic
treatments and 3 with the vein zapper (veins are only $50 a treatment and the
biomedic program isn't too expensive--relatively speaking)
  thanks deborah

   Here I go!!!! -- AW, 22:34:14 03/19/03 Wed

Well - I've been ckecking out this website for weeks now - hoping oneday to
  fing a 'quick fix' for my face - so I'll share w/you my 'story' - I'm a 33
year old F - with moderate to severe scarring - forhead, and cheeks mainly -
but not consistent scarring - scattered around and very deep pits. I've been
on 'Obagi' for almost three months - with 1% retin-A - my overall skin is
great - except for the scarring - but a reduction in the shallow ones is
obvious. My doctor is going to excise 4 of the deeper scarrs next week - then
I am planning on having full-face erbium laser - hopefully end of May.

I remember a time when my skin was clear and normal - years ago - when I was
beautiful and attractive - and I suppose this has been a true lesson in
humility for me - because I have to see myself as I really am - rather than
hide through appearances - and as much as I try to believe people can see
beyond the scarring - when I catch a glimpse of myself offgaurd - or look at
pictures - It saddens me -

I can't believe that I have already spent so much $$$$ on my skin - seems so
vain - and more to come - shit - I could have a boob job, lipo, etc......all
for the price of 'possible' smooth skin again.....

I hope we all get there soon!!!!!!!

Dermalogen in a few weeks...will update at that time -- Mack, 06:21:32

I'm going in for a Dermalogen (collagen) treatment in a few weeks. I've a
depressed (rolling) acne scar on my cheek that I'm hoping to correct a bit.
I'll update after the procedure so that others know. I still hope that sharing

To blueskycomplex and barbie and santamaria -- Kit, 06:20:25 03/19/03 Wed

  Hey Blueskycomplex,
You are right. Oh, by the way, your name sounds cool. The nice bluesky but why
is it so complex? Isn't it supposed to be clear? Seems that you have a lot of
things to express? Nice of you being a friend to me.

Barbie: Yup, I congratulate you wholeheartedly for finding such a good
boyfriend and husband-to-be in the future. But I notice something strange and
common about such relationships. When both of you got together at first, I
supposed you hadn't had any problems right? So, after passing a few years when
you build up the relationships, your bf will think you are still as beautiful
as before even you said you have developed some scarrings. Well, at least this
is what I really call true love and not blind love. But I think it is the
first approach that is difficult because there is no relationship foundation
for both parties like SantaMaria's case.

SantaMaria - You shouldn't feel that way because your mind has already
rejected yourself first before the lady did. You know what, we always have the
far thinking first even if the reality wouldn't be what we thought. Give
yourself a second chance and go for it again. You wouldn't know what will
happen if you try. But I know for sure if you don't, you will really feel
  rejected right now.

   TO SANTAMARIA -- BARBIE, 14:02:50 03/18/03 Tue

please dont live in lonliness because of your scaring, i feel like that
sometimes(well actually i feel like it now) but i no it is not the rite thing
to do. people that are worth bothering about will like you for you and wont
care about your scarring. i was lucky and met my boyfriend when i was 15
before i had acne but i always had spots, but when i turned 18 i developed
acne and now have acne scaring and i think i am so ugly. but every day my
boyfriend tells me i am beautiful and he says even if i were deformed he would
still love me, because me is the person inside. you need to live life (you can
still try to get rid of the scaring too) try your best to be a nice person,
caring, warm, intelligent. that is what nice girls find attractive. my friend
who is stunningly beautiful has a fiance who has terrible scarring, but the
scaring is not important, true love shines through everything. please try to
live your life, i believe that you can be in a relationship. you only have one
life and you should live it, if you find a cure for scares that will be a
bonus, but please dont let it be the purpose of your life.

  To 325 Re: Elcina -- Eve, 13:06:23 03/18/03 Tue

The Elcina did nothing at all to my skin. I saw absolutely no difference after
months of use and it did not define my pits more.

If you go the Delphi forum and look at some of the posts by Catlover, you will
find that he is having some very positive results using the glycolic acid
peels and the Tri-Reduction copper peptides from Skin Biology. He is doing 3-5
peels a week and then gobbing on the copper peptides. He posted that he is
having 30-40% improvement in some of his pits. After 7 1/2 weeks, I am not
having those kinds of results, but I do feel a little encouraged. Dr. Pickart
from Skin Biology told me I would probably need to increase to a stronger
glycolic acid if my skin would tolerate it. I am doing fine with the 30%
strength so Kathy from makeupartist.com is sending me a sample of the 40% and
50% glycolic acid peel. Incidentally, I have "gobbed" on some of the Super Cop
in a few of my pits for a few nights just as an experiment. This morning I
noticed that about half of one of the larger pits is swolen with a little tiny
scab over it. I don't know what's going on there so I will watch it carefully.

  never found it, can't believe it's mine -- blueskycomplex, 09:28:45 03/18/03
  Tue

you know i think if i could make my skin better, i could forget about
everything in the past. die secret life, die. in my head, my face is so
distorted. i relate more to monsters and i know when people say they love
monsters it is only to a certain level, i want to dance with a boy wrapped
like a mummy and shake a bottle of pills like a tambourine. my skin isn't mine
anymore. maybe if i could shift myself in a certain way that my face and body
disappear in photographs, it would be better. it would seem more favourable
now to be left for dead (die secret life).

JON AND CITYSLICKER -- HEIDI, 09:14:36 03/18/03 Tue

  Jon and Cirtyslicker:

Jon thanks for gunning for me!! GO MANCHESTER!!! I feel really excited and
can't wait for the procedure. Jon if you go onto the isolagen website and look
under news there are articles fromt the Daily Mail, Telegraph and Evening
  Standard about the procedure!

CitySlicker: Go to the website and get literature sent to you. There are pics
of scarring in there and it is pretty bad. It is not the mild type. Big
craters and dipigmentation. Also call Br Bill Boss, who is in the same office
as Dr Rappaaport. His number is 201 488 1916. I have called and talked to him
several times because this is a huge deal and very expensive. I have pinned
him on reults and the procedure and it all seems very encouraging.

  Hoping for Happiness

  Elicina/Elcina/? -- blueskycomplex, 08:19:38 03/18/03 Tue

this cream that seems to show up on every search on acne scar treatment didn't
work for me and i have only a few cystic acne scars on my cheek and the rest
are just tiny spots. it didn't do anything at all. only it gave a nice
sensation on application. i hope it works for everyone else, i was so
desperate when i ordered it i was ready to kill myself. how awful! now i wish
i could've spent the money on some good books to cheer me up at that time. it
is expensive and it was sort of good therapy reading through the tesimonials,
but it is too mild to do anything at all. i just want the tiny red spots to
disappear completelycompletely. i want my face to disappear.

  ND Yag -- blueskycomplex, 07:49:47 03/18/03 Tue

hi, i am new here. i just had laser (ND YAG) done yesterday. i am 19 and i
have bdd... i only get the tiniest pimple occasionally, because retin A worked
for me (in fact it was quite mild on my skin). i want to know if anyone else
have had ND YAG laser done and how long does it take to see results? my scars
aren't that bad, but i have bdd and i am so tired of this, i feel like my skin
isn't mine anymore. i am so sad today, it seems like all the scars are more
prominent after the ND YAG laser, there is no itch or severe redness. i am
digging away the soil of my skin because I think I am alive inside this body.
more peels more laser. i know my skin isn't awful, it's healthy even. but like
the tunic song, "don't let it go to your head". also, Kit are you in
singapore? because i am in malaysia and maybe we could be friends or
something.

   thanks eve! -- 325, 06:46:18 03/18/03 Tue

thanks for your telling of your experience, and you also used elicina, did it
cause your pits to become pronounced also?

   Hi Denise1 -- TifaniesSecret, 06:16:28 03/18/03 Tue

  Hey Denise!!!

I used to talk to you at Healthboards several months ago. I have been
out-of-pocket for a few months and haven't been able to keep up with what is
  going on.

Last time I talked to you, you were planning on having a TCA Peel in December.
Did you do it? If so, how was the outcome?

Take care and I Hope to Hear from You Soon.

  Tif :)

To SantaMaria: re Elcina (snail cream) -- Eve, 01:35:27 03/18/03 Tue

I used Elcina cream on my pitted cheeks for months with no results. My opinion
is that it is not strong enough. If you are wanting to try topicals instead of
a surgical procedure, consider the copper peptides along with home glycolic
peels. Check out the messages under "Stretch Mark and Scar Reduction" for
people just like you who are looking for help in reducing their scars.

My final and desperate attempt. -- SantaMaria, 10:14:18 03/17/03 Mon

I have suffered with acne since I was 13 years old. I losted many friends and
lost many oppurtunities to date some very gorgeous women. I am now 36 alone
and very pissed off. My acne has basically subsided but the acne scarring is
the only double whammy I am experiencing now. I am told it isn't that bad but
it has destroyed my self esteem and made me very weak around women. I am
trying the snail cream just hoping it smoothes the scarring. I want to share
my painful pissed-off testimonial from a supposively happy of a life because I
want to vent a little. I feel so lost. I am really hoping this snail cream
really works, because the day I approached a women to introduce myself and she
stared at me with fear and pitty made me feel like a pittyful piece of sh@#! I
never felt so bad. I felt my heart breaking. Haha. I must have been a freak to
her, and everyone telling me I wasn't that bad. Bastards. Sorry, I just want
to vent. I guess lonelines and I will be friends forever. I will let everyone
know if this damn snail cream works. I apologize if my tone was bloody moody,
but the girl's eyes made me so sad. The scarring is only on my cheeks, bloody
I wouldn't have mind if the damn acne was on my ass instead. But, why the
  cheeks.
  later,
  SantaMaria

to gin and the rest of true friends here -- Kit, 04:28:40 03/17/03 Mon

  Hi gin,
I know gin isn't your real name, or the nick you have been using. Like what I
have said before, why is it so shameful to use for real name or your
  "permanent" nick.

Friends, I am actually expecting this mail from that very same person or two.
And truly it really came. Gin, you know what, you are a very bad-hearted
person. I don't know your motive, and it ain't going to be good. I hope you
are not Mr. Alex. And one more thing, when did I ever be arrogant before? You
have probably dissuaded me from going but you just stated unvalid or childish
  reasons.

Anyway friends, my redness has dropped 80% (truly) from the day I reached my
home. The doctor said it will take 3-6 months for the redness to drop and the
entire thickness of skin to grow back, however, at less than 3 months time, my
redness has dropped significantly. Now, I am waiting for the skin texture and
level to grow back by itself, just as kind-hearted Lola has said "wait for the
collagen" to return. I have done laser before and it is almost like this,
after a few more months things will return to normal or even better!

The reason why I am sad is simply because I am probably asking for much much
more and so may be a little disappointed. Anyway, thanks to those guys for
standing out and defended me. Thanks. It is not so difficult to see who is on
the good side and who isn't.

gin you are pathetic -- LK, 22:39:02 03/16/03 Sun

  truly pathetic.

  F you -- rotten apple, 20:50:22 03/16/03 Sun

yeah, normally i wont bother about people being arrogant and stuff, but
really, go F yourself "gin". you made a totally unnecessary argument

please, do not follow this discussion, i just wanted to point out something
that is really bad and shouldnt be done here.

  Isolagen/ Heidi -- Jon, 18:16:36 03/16/03 Sun

I am convinced that in 10 years time we will have a solution to our scarring
that produces the results we are all looking for. I think that the solution
will be something similar to the program running by Isolagen i.e the use of an
implant rather than an abrasion type remedy.

My personal nightmare began when I left school and was plauged by severe acne.
I visited several doctors who prescribed all sorts of lotions, pills and
antibiotics that at best did very little to overcome my symptoms. I reached 29
and finaly got on a course of Roaccutane...9 months later and I was cured. I
am now 33 and I haven't had a spot for years but the scars are there for all
  to see.

Scarring can be compared to an iceberg. The world only gets to see the top but
the real problems lie below. The mental scarring is far, far worse.

Good luck Heidi...I'm gunning for ya!
  Jon (Manchester. U.K)

KIT was told not to go for Exoderm -- gin, 13:35:35 03/15/03 Sat

I browsed the last few pages of this topic board and came across, that someone
had warn KIT not to go for the exoderm as she/he had foreseen disappointment
or 'never recover' thing for KIT.

KIT at that point didn't need any advise and was so arrogant that she will
  succeed with this exoderm treatment.

I believe, that person who posted the message must be somewhat a psychic or
something, cos what she /he said was true. Now KIT is unhappy and maybe KIT
will never recover from that red face.

  Anyway, good luck KIT!

any kind of filler done that showed very good results??

  To 325 re: copper peptides-my experience -- Eve, 21:23:22 03/14/03 Fri

I can't answer your question but thought I would give a quick review of my 7
week (almost) experience with the Skin-biology Tri-Reduction Combo. I am 51
years old with numerous scars on my face. The biggest problem for me is the
ice pick type scars on my cheeks---VERY noticable. I also have various
scarring on other areas of my face. I followed the recommendations of using
the copper peptides at night and the Exfol cream in the mornings for about a
month. A little over two weeks ago I began using 30% glycolic acid peels (from
makeupartist.com) as Dr. Pickart said my scars might need more aggressive
exfoliating. (I am also using the Super Cop on the ice pick scarring.) My plan
is to move up to 40%, then 50%, and then use the Doctors Strength if all goes
well with the other peels. I've been told not to expect very noticable results
for at least 6 months as my scars are so tough. This is what I have noticed so
far: Overall I have some improvement in the way I look with makeup. My
complexion is slightly more even toned and a little more tight. However, some
of my ice pick scars seem to be more defined. That might be because the other
scars on my face are diminishing a little. Before I started this there seemed
to be at least 20 ice pick scars on each cheek that were highly noticable. Now
I can count about 15 per cheek, but they seem more noticable to me than
before. It may be because the area around them is smoothing out a little. So,
overall, no dramatic changes, but something seems to be happening. If 6 months
on this regimen doesn't bring me some needed encouragement, I will start
looking for something else. I am very interested in the Cross method for ice
pick scars being discussed at another board. Dr. Rappaport in NJ does it and now
there is a lady posting at another board who has found a plastic surgeon that will
do it for her. I am VERY interested in what her results might be.

   Question about Copper peptides -- 325, 19:16:21 03/14/03 Fri

Ok, the word is I should use copper peptides in conjunction with salicylate
acid which is suppose to break down scar tissue while copper builds new tissue
so my question is if I am breaking down old scarred tissue and building up new
un-scarred tissue at the same time how does my salicylate acid know not to
break down this "new tissue" that the copper is supposedly building up?
I dont get it. Can someone explain to me how this works, or how it is suppose
  to work?
  Thanks!! =)

  vitamin e -- katie, 10:40:31 03/14/03 Fri

my mum had slightly indented scars that were a purperly red colour now you
cant see them atall. she only used the vitamin e oil at night cos it is greasy
and you would look like you had a greasy face using it in the day. i asked her
if she put any cream on her face in the day and she said she just used a
moisteriser. dont use one with any sun protection in it though as this will
stop the natural process of your scars returning to look the same as the rest
of your skin. the moisteriser she used was a vitamin e one from the body shop.
  hope this helps!

  KIT -- Dan, 06:19:23 03/14/03 Fri

Hey Kit - sorry about your disappointing results. Has the redness gone down at
all since the procedure? Also, are there certain benefits you got from the
procedure such as smaller pores and getting rid of the coloring of the scars
to a more even tone? Did it atleast help shallow scars? Thanks.

Message for Lee & Julie -- Dorrie, 21:53:40 03/13/03 Thu

You know, I don't get it with the silicone injections. THEY ARE ILLEGAL!! I
wonder why some doctors suggest it to their patients. Orentreich's office did
mention them to me, but I said no because I knew they were banned by the FDA
REcently, I mentioned silicone to my dermatologist, and she confirmed that
they are illegal. , and so she would not recommend doing it (she of course
  would not go for it)

  To Julie -- Lee, 17:25:55 03/13/03 Thu

  HI, Julie
Thank you for your information. I called the doctor's office. They told me to
come in on Monday, exactly a week after the silicone injections. I think they
may over corrected my scars. Now I look like I have bad acne all over again.
My scars are now red and bumpy. I am nervous. I hope he has something to help
the mess he made on my cheeks. Also, I checked the orentriech.com site. It
says about treatment of silicone over correction problems. Here it is.
Overcorrection is long-lasting unless corrected with treatment. A result of
excess soft-tissue creation. May appear as surface bumps. Treatment of
Triamcinolone acetonide injections and/or electrodessication for silicone
  overcorrection.

  bob -- Jessica, 16:42:10 03/13/03 Thu

Thanks for the website info. It is a little helpful. Tomorrow I am going to
the doctor's office to resume my skin care program after my laser surgery.
Bioclear worked alright, although I had looked like a freak for 6 wks while my
skin adapted to the stimuli. Has anybody seen any results from co2? I had it
in november, the pink faded quickly, but the damn scars are still there. By
the way what is better, plastic surgeon or dermatologist? For the scars?

  Thanks
  Jessica

To all fellow friends -- Kit, 14:30:05 03/13/03 Thu

Hi guys, sorry for dropping in once in a while. You know what, I always feel
de-moralizing everytime I come in here. It just keeps on reminding me the same
problem we have here. I feel like shouting out "Scram Off!". Very sorry. oh,
then why I come in here? And for the same reason when I feel depressed, I drop
in again to find "hope" here. Sigh.....

Hey guys and gals, if only we could be very near and be very very good friends
to one another. We could be very good soul mates and lead one another off this
painful and irritating shore. Oh well, at least I think I have one or two
  friends here in Singapore.

Ok, for the update, I tell more in details as I don't know when I will feel
sad and drop in again. Now, the redness seems to fade, quite slowly. Now it is
only 2 months, I still have 2-4 months before the whole skin finally grow back
to its level of thinkness. Sometimes it is very red but sometimes the skin
becomes clear white esp. in the night time. The time of writing now, I just
don't know will it be red tomorrow or will it be ok. Now the skin really seems
to be the boss and I just follow its "redness" mood. As for improvements, I
really don't know what to say. The redness now seems to make the scars worse
so I still need to let it fade before making evaluation. Anyway, the worse
part is I have shifted house recently and you guys should know, if your daily
mirror under the same lighting suddenly changes, your perspective of your
scars may worsen or improve depending on your view. I am totally confused at
the moment. Now I really got to wait for a few more months to see whether will
  there be any results.

Thanks Lola and Denise1 for your warm welcome. Pardon my grammar today as I
feel quite sad. Sorry. Normally, my strucutre of English is much better
instead of saying bits by bits like now.

Anyway, my parents always say it is ok, it is ok, don't mind too much or you
have been thinking too much. Well, I don't know what to say to them and
sometimes I think it is ok. So, I am getting confused and start my studies
again at this period of time.

I think Isolagen is a very good technique. May worth looking forward to. In
short, if you are thinking of getting away deep wrinkles, exoderm is indeed
very very good and promising. But if it is for depressed scars, there should
be other better techniques because the downtime won't be that
  looooooonnnnnnnnngggggggg.

I am now "jailed" at home with occasional outdoor visits to my Uni. Oh man,
how I wish 3 more months will pass soon now!

   vitamin e -- katie, 12:53:22 03/13/03 Thu

to help scars fade use a face scrub at night (boots tea tree one is good)
after cleansing. then apply a vitamin e capsule. burst the capsule and spread
the vitamin e over the scars or your whole face. this will fade scars over
time. you will notice a very slight difference in one month. my mum did this
as she had bad scars and after 10 years she had none. i no it is a long time,
but it is ok if you want a risk free natural treatment. i would be to scared
to have laser treatment or peels i have 15 scars on my face but i cover them
up with rimmel hide the blemish which is very good and very cheap. i have been
using vitamin e and scrubs for 2 months now and have noticed a difference. my
skin also feels very soft. do not do this if you have acne and scars as the
oil from the vitamin e will give you more breakouts. only use vitamin e
capsules if your acne has gone.

  silicone -- julie, 04:48:58 03/13/03 Thu

Lee: I have posted here in the past, warning not to get silicone injections. I
had them done 15 years ago, and have developed lumps over the years. I have
contacted many Dr.'s to find out if there's a way to get the silicone out.
There isn't. I have been getting kenalog (steroid) injections in the lumps
periodically, and it helps temporarily. The problem with that is that the
steroid can also cause temporary atrophy. It IS very depressing because
there's nothing that can be done. Some Dr.'s have said maybe it can be
excised, but then maybe you're left with a scar that is just as bad. Dr.
Kaminer, in the Boston area answered my email about a year ago, and told me
that he's seen success with either laser, or lipo, but I have not talked with
him further about it. It is possible that it's just an initial reaction, and
the lumps will settle down. What did the Dr. say about the lumps?

  silicone injections -- LEE, 02:37:19 03/13/03 Thu

  HI
I need help! Two days ago, I had silicone injections into my cheeks from a
very popular doctor. He is in a lot of magazines and considered the a-list of
doctors in NYC. His name is Dr. Steven Victor in NYC. Does anyone ever heard
or been treated by him, please let me know. Anyway, now my cheeks have many
visible lumps and bumps due to the silicone. They are noticable lumps on my
cheeks. Will they subsize and be normal or will I look like this for life? And
is there any treatments to get rid of them? I need help. And forget about
suing him, since I am not rich and powerful as he is. I hope I will look
normal a week later, or else I will look scarred for life? I am so depressed
and scared. I need help, please respond if you have any advice and guidance.
  Thank you so much.

  Help! -- Jessica, 01:18:59 03/13/03 Thu

I need your help! I have severe acne scarring and can not seem to find an
appropriate cure. I've tried everything from creams, microdermabrasion,
excisions which scarred me even worse, TCA peel, skin care programs, retin a,
CO2 laser and nothing seemed to work. Depending on lighting my scars look like
cookie cutter holes and ice pick marks. Now that my acne is gone ,i am left
with a constant reminder, i find it hard to look at myself. Can anyone suggest
a helpful treatment no matter the cost?

  to dorrie -- john k, 03:25:32 03/12/03 Wed

i think your absolutely right dorrie about improper waste emlimination causing
acne. a few years ago i had taken two prescriptions of accutane...about 24 or
so tablets in all,and i had noticed an increase in bowel movements and when i
stopped taking accutane i had noticed that it had decreased.i think your doing
the right thing for your son's nutritional diet since acne like baldness can
be inherited from your parents. when i had noticed this incident i never had
mentioned it to anyone and i thought it was interesting and always wondered if
there was a pattern and now since you mentioned it, i think the theory is true

   My experience -- Dee, 22:46:39 03/11/03 Tue

Hi. I just want to let you know that I've been using the 40% glycolic acid at
least 2 times per week now w/ no problems. I think your face builds up a
tolerance. My face is a little clearer and I only have 3 deep scars left, the
rest are very shallow. I bought this product from makeupartistchoice.com. I'm
also still using the copper peptides and my face hardly breaks out anymore and
when it does, it heals quickly. I might try a home microdermabrasion kit
sometime also. I also wanted to tell you about a new makeup that I got samples
from. It's an all natural mineral makeup that is good at hiding flaws and
doesn't irritate your skin. There are several brands out there - bare
escentuals is the most popular but you can find others as well. I'm going to
order some soon. I think it's best to do the less aggressive treatments first
for those of you with minor scarring or you can make matters worse. It's not a
waste of money, each thing you do helps. I think I'm going to try a filler of
some sort in a couple years. That might get rid of most of my scarring.

  Small Bumps -- chrissy, 19:23:13 03/11/03 Tue

I have some small bumps on my chin, kind of like white heads, but they really
don't go away. I've seen these same kind of bumps on some people around the
orbital rim. Does anyone know how to get rid of these? I'm already using retin
  a.

  keliods -- peter, 00:17:33 03/11/03 Tue

  Hey guys,

I know that most people talk about their facial scars, but I have seen a few
people talk about keliods. I have one on my chest and was upset when I saw
that there really seemed no good cure for them. Well, mine is completely flat
now due to steriod injections. It look 80% better from that alone. I recently
got the pulse dye laser to try and get rid of the redness of the scar. For
about the first week the scar was completely purple, but now it has really
fadded back to a much lighter color then before I had the laser. Around the
edges it is becoming more of my normal skin tone. It has only been a week and
a half so far. I will check in in a few weeks for anyone who is interested and
let you know how it is doing. As far as facial scars go I have some mild
scaring on my cheeks and a few really big pits. I am hopping that Isolagen
really gets approved!!!! I hope it really works like the hype says it does.
Good luck to Heidi and I hope you get the results you really want. I will be
looking for your posts, as I am sure many others will, in order to see how
your doing. Good luck to the rest of you too.

  Cityslicker and Michael

Sorry my personal email has been bombarded with spam and I need to set up a
new account. I will give you that email once I set it up. However if you have
general questions I can answer them here however I suggest you contact
Isolagen USA and request to talk to a "practicing" doc in the US as my
  knowledge is limited.

As for the biopsy - that can be done on the day of the consultation. It takes
about 20 minutes and painless. Then plan on 10 weeks before your cells can be
harvested. Then you get three injections at 2 week intervals. You would need a
little over a month for this part of the procedure. Again, I would contact
Isolagen USA and see what they suggest. Maybe you can get a US doc to do it if
you sign some papers? I dont know. Please keep in mind London is a very
expensive place - 1 pound is 1.60 dollars. I dont mean to sound discouragin
but see what they can do in the US.

  A cure?? -- JodiE, 09:46:12 03/10/03 Mon

  Hello all.
I was just hoping that this might be a place where I could get advice on
finding a cure for acne as you all seem to be dealing with fixing the scars, I
haven't gotten to that point yet because I still am dealing with breakouts.
(27 year old female) I have tried differen,proactive,retin-a and
erithromyicin. Any advice is very much appreciated.

Questions for Bernard and Doctor Warning -- Jane, 01:48:40 03/09/03 Sun

  Bernard,
It is good to hear that someone has had such good luck with dermabrasion. I
had dermabrasion done about a week and a half ago. I am incredibly unhappy
with how it has turned out. It even seems like I have a new scar, where the
nurse put the needle in my upper cheek for the anesthetic.
What did your scars look like after one week that made you initially unhappy
with the result? What changed in the next week? Would you mind sharing what
area you live in and who your doctor is?
I also want to share with others in the DC area that the doctor I saw for
dermabrasion was Dr. Magassy in Mclean. I think he is an absolute jerk. At my
last visit before the procedure, he almost didn't show (an office assistant
had to track him down, after I waited forever)and at the time of the procedure
he was absolutely negligent about providing me with directions for caring for
my skin afterward. It was like pulling teeth to get any information out of
him. I totally regret not backing out--but he had impressed me during the
consultation and is listed in the Washingtonian magazine as one of the area's
best doctors. Maybe this is just a minor procedure to him--because he did not
seem to take it seriously. Anyway, I would avoid Dr. Magassy! Regardless of
the results of the procedure (which I think will not be good at all), he was
an unpleasant person to deal with.

  To heidi -- Michael, 11:18:27 03/07/03 Fri

Hi, I just wanted to know...if i were to go see doctor chu and agree to get
the Isolagen done, can I immediately get my cell drawn out from back of my ear
like that day or that week...because..i am planning on a trip to London like
this month and going back during the summer to get the 3 shots
required....That is why it is important for me to know how long before they
can draw cell out from me after seeing him...i really need to know about
this...so since have been through the first stage...please inform me...thank
  you...

   Subcision -- Ethan, 09:45:09 03/07/03 Fri

I have been reading so many postings here, and I am still pretty confused. I
have gone to consult a surgeon and she recommended me to undergo subcision for
my scars. She mentioned that, after the surgery, the face will be bruised for
about 7 days and followed by two weeks of redness. This is going to disrupt my
daily activities. I can't afford to stay at home for three weeks and it will
be very weird for me to wear makeup just to cover up the redness. Is it really
that serious that the face will be brusied for a week? I am still thinking
whether should I go for a test trial first, i.e. on a few scars before I
proceed with the full face subcision. Can anyone of you who have undergone
subcision share with me your experience? Thanks.

  2nd Subcision -- Charlotte, 05:54:55 03/07/03 Fri

Dorrie, when I first consulted with Dr. Rapaport's office by phone, they told
me that a lot of patients benefit from a second subcision, but usually don't
need a third. When I went in person and they had a chance to see what they
were dealing with, I was told that I would need a second subcision and maybe
fat injections in a few areas for the best results. They said I had to wait a
minimum of two months for the second one, but that I could wait as long as I
wanted and it wouldn't impact the result. It's been eight months. So I went
into this knowing it was just a first step.

I don't know if you had a chance to see Mr. G's results - his website is
listed in this forum somewhere - maybe you could do a search. He took digital
photos showing results from his first and second subcisions. He says he is
glad he did the second subcision, but admits that he got more dramatic
  improvement with his first one.

My dilemma is: do I go ahead and do a second subcision now or do I wait until
Isolagen is FDA approved and do a subcision combined with that procedure,
which is to inject as a filler your own collagen/fibroblasts that has been
grown in a lab. Heidi in London (where it is already approved) said that the
Isolagen procedure is performed at the same time as subcision there. The
customer relations person at Isolagen in the U.S. said that they haven't
started their Phase III clinical trials yet because they are waiting until FDA
approval. I wasn't sure how biotechnology companies work, as far as which
comes first, etc. - but thought I'd ask anway. So who knows when that will be
an available option. If I had plenty of money I would probably do the second
subcision, then when Isolagen was approved, look into that as well. But since
I don't, I was trying to strategize to get more bang for my buck.

  Take Care,
  Charlotte

  jared -- bob, 22:36:10 03/06/03 Thu

Go to www.skinbiology.com and read. There is a lot of info of
skinbiology's(that's the name of the company) products there. Also,
skinbiology has a discussion forum located at
www.delphiforums.com. I've been
using their products for about 9 weeks and am having good results for my
pitted and depressed scars. My scars are old and are expected to take longer
because of their age. Everytime I read about someone using elicina they are
saying it didn't do anything for them. Looking at elicina's ingrediants i
would say that elicina is way too weak for scars. Perhaps elicina could help
very minor ones if used a long time.

Acne pits and grooves -- Jared, 21:55:01 03/06/03 Thu

I have been looking for something to help smooth out my skin and fill in my
acne pits and grooves. I had microdermabration done a year ago, it got rid of
my little while scars and bumps from acne, but left me with so many pits over
my face and uneven grooves in my skin from the dermabration! I will not do
laser surgery because of the risk of making it worse, I've used Elincea, it
helped just a little, has anyone had success with other products or know of
  one? Thanks

  Jared

  another ?? for Charlotte -- Dorrie, 18:04:58 03/06/03 Thu

Charlotte, Did you know that you would have to go another round of subcision &
N Lite before you did the 1st treatment?? Or, did you decide you're not happy
with the results, and so Dr Rapaport agreed that you would see even more
  results after another round?
Also, about your son. Alot of holistic Dr's believe that acne is caused by
improper waste elimination. So, it might be a good idea to tell your son that
he needs to eat a diet that will insure that he remains "regular", and of
course no greasy potato chips, etc. That's what I've already instilled in my 5
year old son -- we don't have the typical snack foods in our house -- just
things like Veggie Bootys (from the health food store), and we buy as much
  organic foods as we find.
Anyway, let's hope that none of our kids have to endure what we are all going
  thru!

   I did dermabrasion and I am happy!! -- Bernard, 12:47:16 03/06/03 Thu

  Hi to all,
I would like to share a little bit about my experience with dermabrasion.
I have already done a lot of things to my acne scars. Laser CO2, Cool touch,
fillers, punch exicisions, etc. I was never happy. From my experience, I was
quite sure that the best thing to do, if the problem bothers you is to go
  aggressive. So I did.
It’s been two weeks and a half now that I have done dermabrasion, and I am
very happy with the result. I would count around 70% improvement. The strange
thing is that after the first week when the swollen subsidized, I felt that
the improvement was not good. I had to wait another week to be happy with the
result. In fact, I was not expecting so much improvement, and perhaps this is
something to take in consideration with my perception of improvement.

I am not sure if my result now will fade in the following weeks (since it is
only two and half weeks since I did), or if it will keep permanently.

Anyway, I recommend to anyone who feel deeply depressed with acne scar to go
for the aggressive treatment. You will never be happy with a result from a
cool touch, microdermabrasion, etc. They are mainly built for wrinkles, and no
  acne scars.

If you would like to share some experiences with dermabrasion, do that, I will
be happy to answer your questions.

  All the best!

erbium laser disaster -- deborah, 18:11:38 03/05/03 Wed

  Hi all,
I have never posted to this board, but have followed it. To those who have had
laser surgery and seen horrific results, I empathize with you. (Have been on
anti-depressants et al.since then) My problem wasn't so much acne scarring ,
have a few pock marks from bad cystic acne at 17 yrs. old, but sun damage and
enlarged pores (have oily skin and used to live in a tropical climate) I am 6
months post-treatment with areas of severe hyperpigmentation and broken veins
which weren't there before. I think the use of bleaching agents too soon after
the procedure as recommended by an Asian derm (I am half Japanese) contributed
to the formation of a waxy looking patch of uneven skin on my cheek looks like
shallow acne scarring and feels different from the rest of the skin). Some
microderms have helped reduce the waxiness there and the texture seems to be
evening out a bit, but my skin gets irritated easily now, so bleaching creams
which I need are a problem. Also my face is full of tiny red pimples and
blackheads. Anyone else have this experience. I live in NYC. I have seen
Geronomus, Goldberg, Polis and finally Dr. Sadick. Sadick was by far the most
congenial with Geronomus being the least helpful when I contacted him 3 weeks
post-op. The procedure was performed in Thailand--not by any of these doctors.
Sadick is a research derm who makes his own products, but the combo of
glycolic and hydroquinone makes my face swell in areas. Also, he seems to be
fairly traditional in his approaches so I don't know if I would recommend him
at this moment. He suggested N Lite for pock marks, but I am guessing its a
waste of $$. Anyone have this problem. I am really upset, beyond upset--I
don't want to go out unless I have to. Does anyone else who has had an
invasive procedure notice raised clawlike patches of skin or depressed ones
--can't figure out which is which. Has anyone's skin gotten better over 6
months after such a disaster. Help!!

Glycolic Peels for mild acne scars -- Mary, 15:28:23 03/05/03 Wed

Has anyone had any experience with glycolic peels? I would like some info on
their effectiveness. I went to a derm the other day because I have a few
slight acne scars that I would like to get rid of. I wanted to get some laser
resurfacing. But the derm said that the scars were very superficial and that
he would like to give me a series of glycolic peels. I am wondering if these
are really effective or is he just trying to make money off of me?

I'd hate to go through the peels and ultimately get laser anyway. But I'd alos
hate to spend the money on laser if the same result could be achieved via
  glycolic peels.

  Subcision/Isolagen -- Charlotte, 08:22:07 03/05/03 Wed

Dorrie: No actual down time. I recall feeling kind of puny and taking an
afternoon nap in the hotel after the procedure, but went out for dinner in
Manhattan later, although I looked like I had leprosy or something equally
dreadful - totally embarrassed my teenage son. In a couple of days, bruising
was disappearing and I was able to cover up with makeup. I had over 50 places
that were subcised. Cost $700 subcision, $650 N-Lite. I didn't meet Dr. Boss.
I chose Dr. Rapaport from hearing about his good work on this board - wasn't
  disappointed with him.

To Heidi: I sent an e-mail today while in the Isolagen website asking about
participation in Phase III Clinical Trials - don't know if it's too late or
not. I'm in Houston and so is one of their recently opened laboratories. I
also sent an e-mail yesterday to Dr. Boss seeking his opinion about delaying
my second subcision/N-Lite treatment until Isolagen could be done at the same
time. My gut feeling on this is to wait it out.

Like I said before, I can wait for the right strategy and procedure. The only
reason I was getting a little anxious to do the next step soon is because I
will be meeting my boyfriend's family in May and you know what first
impressions are focused on when you have acne scars. Oh well, I'll have to win
them over with my personality and my big heart. My boyfriend actually believes
that I'm beautiful and tells me practically every day, saying he'll convince
me one day that I am. It's as though he doesn't see the scars, but at the same
time he's supportive of whatever steps I take to seek the best treatment.

  I mentioned I have a teenage son (15). I'm concerned that he'll get cystic
acne like I did in my late teens, but so far he's only had mild acne. One
thing I've been doing for about a year in an attempt to be proactive is to
take him for facials every 6 to 8 weeks. It's $50 each time, but I think it
has helped him avoid worse acne problems. He goes to a gentle, experienced
woman from Taiwan. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

  Take Care,
  Charlotte

  Isolagen -- Lola, 20:39:21 03/04/03 Tue

Heidi: Thank you so much for your reply. Dr Anthony Chu is supposed to be very
good. I think he also invented the dermalux lamp or something. Anyway, I am
going to phone up tomorrow. I had tried to contact him several months ago, but
never managed to get through to his office. At that stage, I didn't know he
did isolagen, etc. Now that I know he does the isolagen, subicision & n-lite
combination, I will definitely try to see him. I agree with your sentiments
about him and Dr Lowe. Although Dr Lowe did a good job with my CO2, I feel he
is more a businessman than a doctor.

Kit: Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry to hear that you aren't so happy with
the exoderm, but don't give up. It might take up to six months to see results
because the collagen takes time to increase. When I had my CO2, I think the
results were evident in six to nine months. I wish you all the best.

isolagen for charlote -- heidi, 09:08:19 03/04/03 Tue

  Charlote:

Hi Dr Boss is the one that convinced me to do the treatment - he has performed
it on many patients and said the avergae rate of success is 80%-100%. Please
note this is not with isolagen alone. You must undergo subscsion and NLite as
well. He also told me he treated a very famous actor for acne scars recently
and now his skin is "normal"(he said). The actors' scars were so bad they had
to gel the lens. I dont know who it is but hey it sounds great. Dr Boss knows
pioneered the treatment. He is the right person to see. Maybe you can contact
one of his previous patients? Also request a isolagen pamphlet from the web it
will tell you abut the procedure. The doc will perform all procedures in one
go for the maximum impact on collagen production. I would call and see if you
can be a "test patient" so because I know they are doing tests now. The only
negative I can imagine is that your skin simply does not respond.

  Thanks

Ange/ Needling Before and After Care -- Cityslicker, 07:30:51 03/04/03 Tue

Hi Ange, don't have much to offer on before care as I decided on Tues. to have
this done on Fri. or Sat. if I could get in to see the tattoo artist. Though,
it worked out that I did it on Sunday. I will say, I quit using my 2% salyscic
acid wash about 3 weeks prior, it was because I had originally planned on
doing a skin peel. My esthetician had advised me several years ago that the
skin regenerates every 28 days or thereabouts, and it was a good idea to
discontinue glycolic or salyscic acid wash a month prior to any skin peel
  regime.

My after care I just used the Procyte CU3 Tissue Repair creme which is a
copper peptide based creme. Besides the Vit. A&D ointment I used the first
day, I used the Procyte (available from Drugstore.com), basically, the
directions state to use every 2-4 hours the first day, and every 4-6 hours for
the next 7 days. I followed that protocol day 2-5 and then I quit using it.
Mainly because I felt I had sufficiently healed enough and was satisfied with
the results of the creme at that time. I would highly recommend it and the
tattoo artist advised he wouldn't even do my treatment until I ordered it.
After the fifth day and still to this day, I've not used anything since.
Though, I did grow a beard and didn't shave it off until yesterday. I was
surprised that I still can see the color contrast where he stopped, but hadn't
noticed as my beard covered that area. Though, noone mentioned or said
anything, and I've spoke with several people the last 2 days. Hope that helps.
  Regards. :-)Mike

To Heidi - Subcision and Isolagen -- Charlotte, 05:59:42 03/04/03 Tue

  Heidi,
You touched on the very thing I've been wondering about - the combination of
subcision and Isolagen treatments. I'm in the U.S. and had my first
subcision/N-Lite treatment about 8 months ago by Dr. Rapaport in New Jersey.
Overall, my face seemed to smooth out a bit (I had moderate scarring:
depressions, rolling scars). I was seriously considering going for a second
subcision/N-Lite in April, but now I'm thinking of waiting until Isolagen is
approved here and getting it done with a subcision/N-lite treatment. Is it
your impression that it could all be done at the same time (with N-Lite the
  next day, though)?

I have to travel from Texas, so the frequent trips close together don't sound
very appealing, but I can't find any dr. here as good as Dr. R. I'll have to
check that he'll be doing Isolagen treatments, but his colleague in the same
office, Dr. Boss, is like the guru of Isolagen I hear, so I'd think it would
be the right place to go. I'm very careful and patient when it comes to
finding the right treatment and strategy - I can wait - I've waited this long
  (about 19 years).

I'm looking forward to reading about your upcoming treatment and progress.
  Best of luck to you!

  Charlotte

Laser resurfacing Day 14 post surgery -- Paula, 03:26:02 03/04/03 Tue

Day 14 and after being scared to death I would look like a monster all my life
I can now already start seeing results. I am 46 years old. I had some acne
scars, not too bad and a few wrinkles around my lips. But already I see my
skin looking smoother. My skin is EXTREMELY oily so when you see my posting on
3/27 you'll see what happened to me. My doc put me on antibiotics and I
started using my anti-acne towlettes, but put non oily creme on. Just think
instead of each day looking older. I'll be looking younger and younger every
day. I am now happy I did it, even though my larger scar is still alittle
swollen he said give it a month. Everything else looks good. I read message
boards about people not recommending treatment. Never get a partial
resurfacing, it will look burned. My doc even told me that. But I am happy now.
Maybe you just need to wait till your older like me. But make sure you
research your Doctor thoroughly and get recommendations. My Doc was first
class all the way. Spent everyday with me after surgery for a week of appts.
then 3times a week now once a week. He has an excellent reputation.

  Goodluck!Paula

  Kit -- Pete, 01:39:51 03/04/03 Tue

hey kit. i know somebody already posted that theyd like to hear about your
results from exoderm more extensively. i know you are not completely happy
with the results but did you get anything out of it? Did your face become more
even (i.e. redness of the scars), smaller pores where pimples used to be,
improvements in a certain type of scar? and also how were the side effects?
how red are you and is there any sign of a waxy texture or hypopigmentation?
is the demarcation line between the face and neck really noticeable? Sorry for
  so many questions. Thanks.

Acne Scar Treatment? -- Katie, 22:20:35 03/03/03 Mon

It has been a while since I posted on this board. I have not been able to do
much scarring treatment because I am still trying to get rid of my acne. My
acne is not severe, but moderate, and my dermatologist told me I can't have
any scarring treatments done until it is under control. I found a few websites
that might include possible treatments for acne and/or scarring.

www.stretchmarks.com. on this website they sell a scar removal kit for facial
scarring. It includes dietary supplements, facial treatments, and infrared
therapies. I do not know if it is effective, but if so, it would be cheaper
and probably safer than most surgical treatments.

www.biopacific.com. This website sells a kit for acne and one designed for
scarring. This one seems to focus mostly on topical treatments.

www.acnemiracle.com. I have read posts by others who have used this treatment
line. It seems to be mostly for acne.

www.reversion.com. is another line for acne.
I don't know if any of these are effective, but they sound interesting, more
natural, and seem to carry less side effects than prescription treatments or
surgeries. If anyone has tried these treatments, or has any additional
information on them, please share your results.
I am still hoping the treatment my dermatologist has prescribed will be
effective, but it has been almost six months, and I am losing patience. If I
try any of these, I will post my results.

hi john, my scars are either white or crater ones, the white marks have
improved a little but they are not very noticable anyway. The main improvement
has been with crater ones, my skin is definately smoother and is still
improving i think. The procedure was 7 months ago now but still after i get
washed i touch my face and it its still very tingly and sensitive.

  i hope this has helped

Artecoll approved by FDA panel -- Dr Rullan, 20:43:46 03/03/03 Mon

Hello. An FDA panel approved Artecoll(to be named Artefill) and that means it
will probably be approved by the FDA within a month or so. It is a more
refined product than the one used in Canada. Only doctors that are trained by
instructors (I'll probably be one of them) will be able to purchase it. There
are several other products in the horizon, such as Radiance, but that one
needs to get an FDA-indication which may take 3 months or so. Dr.Rullan

microdermabrasion was a flop for me -- kitty, 20:23:31 03/03/03 Mon

This is my first time writing to this board. Although I've been reading it for
about a year now. I started searching for a fix to my acne scarring and then
my concern was replaced by a reoccurance of cystic acne. I was undergoing
microdermabrasion and I developed a deep cyst. She was very aggresive with
that area and as a result it spread all over that area of my face. The doctor
said it wasn't from the procedure but I know it was. I hadn't broken out like
that in years. I started taking a product called "clearskin image" and it is
  working really well for me.
As a result I added more scars to my face. I don't have much "normal skin"
left. So now I'm back to trying to find scar treatments. By the way, the
microdermabrasion didn't do anything for my scars. It was a waste of my time
and money. I had planned on having co2 laser done but chickened out. I'm
waiting for some miracle breakthrough treatment or when I'm old the wrinkles
  will hide the scars!
Either way is fine with me.

Hi Kit! So good to see you. What do you believe your results to be from
  Exoderm?

You havn't told us. We all heard you were underwhelmed with the results.
So.....tell us, tell us! What do you think?

Do you need more treatments, are you still red? Any improvement at all in your
  scars? What's up?

Thanks! It's great to see "Kit" again.:-)

  Lola:

I am seeing DR Anthony Chu - he is the head of the acne support group in
London. I have talked to both William Boss, who is on the Isolagen board and
Brian Whitly, the president of Isolagen in Europe. Based on their
conversations, I would advice you to see DR Chu. He quoted me the surgery plus
subsicion and all NLite laser treatments for £2500! However, I have to say I
got involved in the infant stages and I am more or less part of the
"experiemental" stage. He is very nice and not money hungry - he is a derm and
his wife is the head of cell something or another in London. My point: Dr Lowe
is a plastic surgeon, who is in the biz of looking good and money. Dr Chu, is
a skin doctor, a professor and an academic who also runs a support group for
his patients. I tend to lean toward the latter. Because I got involved in the
procedure in the infant stages I know they are growing more cells for me at
the same price. Dr Chu has told me my scars are mild. Other docs have said
moderate. I start my procedure April 4. I will let you know more then.

  Thanks and good luck

  To jack -- kit, 08:18:04 03/03/03 Mon

  Hi,

Face transplant looks promising, but we definitely won't have it. It is really
revolutionary like science fiction, and I know they will be successful
(hopefully). Now, my point is who will want to do it unless one has been
injured by something like a 3rd degree burn. Anyway, how many corpses (must be
within a few hours) can we find and even if we do, their relatives might
reject. Furthermore, the doctors might not want to do it. It may take 5-10 or
even more years for it to be commercialized. The skin from the dead person
must not be rejected by our body too. It is complicated, but I know that will
be sorted out in the future. The question is how long will it take, and when
will it be your or mine or our turn if things turn out to be true? I still
prefer cloning our skin by using our own cells. It seems to be much more
feasible than face transplant. This is really like the movie face-off.
Isolagen is a step there and hopefully they can go beyond that. I understand
they have a few top scientists working with the biochemists.

It is a great info anyway, thanks jack.

  Hi lola and ping,
Hey, thanks for remembering me after such a long time, esp. lola who can still
remember me that I'm a singaporean. I bet it must be very good living in uk as
probably isolagen is so "near" you. Singapore hasn't implemented this
treatment yet, probably waiting for US first. Singapore always like to stand
behind big countries and let them try things out first. I don't understand
  why.

I have reached hometown two months after the trip to Israel. I haven't seen
the update which Michael has posted for me, and I hope he will be alright
after the needling. Hopefully he can report some good results to us.

Lola, you mean you prefer Isolagen than Artecoll, right? Strange, by the way,
I don't think I have seen you before on this board. How did you know me?

Ping - How much is the cooltouch and where did you do it? I have learnt
yesterday that cooltouch is actually 1320mm Nd Yag Laser, hope I'm right? It
is supposed to promote collogen growth with minimum downtime right?

Tammy: RE: what do u do to stop the acne? -- Anna, 00:36:21 03/03/03 Mon

  Could you detail what type of treatments your boyfriend has already tried;
what his diet is like, etc? Going on the birth control pill helped me
dramatically, obviously not an option for a man, but I am wondering if his
doctors have given him any type of tests to assess his hormone levels? Since
this started when he was 20 a hormonal factor might be in play.

  Isolagen - Kit -- Lola, 19:35:15 03/02/03 Sun

Welcome back Kit. I haven't checked the board for a while and am keen to hear
your news. I am a Singaporean too, but living in the UK so I am always keen to
  hear news from other Singaporeans.

I am very interested in Isolagen and was quoted £2,500 in London (involves 3
treatments spaced around 2 weeks apart). Because it is quite new, I am waiting
to hear of other people's experiences before I try it.

A different plastic surgeon pointed out that there is a chance of
contamination when the cells are sent to be grown in the lab. I came across a
  company in Australia
http://www.clinicalcellculture.com/ who is doing a
similar product but they haven't got approval yet. In this instance, your
cells are grown in a container that your own doctor can keep. Please see their
website - one of their products was used for victims of the Bali bombing.

Artecoll consists of little plastic beads whereas Isolagen consists of your
own cells. Some people have reported good results with artecoll but I have
also heard stories of people getting a reaction and removing it is quite
difficult. Does anybody know what happens if you have laser (non-ablative) or
other treatments after you have had artecoll? Does the plastic melt, etc?

  cooltouch.

  Isolagen -- kit, 09:16:15 03/02/03 Sun

  Hi all,
I have read Isolagen from their official web. It sounds promising at this
stage. It is just like cloning your skin, or cells and put back where you want
it to be. I sure hope someone who has been through this may try to give us an
  intro. Thanks.

Hey, what's the real difference in terms of benefit between artecoll and
  isolagen. Anyone knows?

I heard in some cases they do. I want to use those products but don't wish to
aggravate or make the acnes to come back. Thanks.

what do u do to stop the acne? -- Tammy, 06:02:42 03/02/03 Sun

Dear Friends, I am so glad to find this support group and hope someone out
there can help me. My boyfriend has severe cystic acne and the scaring on his
back is unbelievable. I know the scaring is important to everyone. But the
most important thing to me at this time is to stop it. The doctors have told
him he has the worse case of cystic acne they have ever seen. He is 50 years
old and has suffered with this condition since he was 20. The pain he is going
through is terrible. Every day of his life he endures a pus running back.
Seldom does he have even a two week period in his life that he does not have a
large nodule or cyst on his back that is very painful. Most get much bigger
than a soft ball and extremly painful. He endures pins being pushed through
his skin trying to rupture them so they will drain. I recently had him try a
new perscription that i found through research but it caused such bad muscle
cramps in his back he was not able to stand it after about 2 weeks of taking
it..although it did seem to be helping and he had less nodules swell up. I
know he could live through the scaring ...if only he could find a miracle that
would stop all the pain. can anyone help?

  Heather - Skin Biology -- James, 05:53:36 03/02/03 Sun

  Heather,

  RE: RESULTS WITH SKIN BIOLOGY

I have been using exfol-serum in conjuction with tri-reduction (with retinol)
for 6 weeks and have seen improvement in scarring and general diminishment in
  areas of scarring.

Some larger scars are somewhat slow in response but of course will take longer
to respond yet where there was smaller or less severe area of scarring I have
  noted a general smoother appearance.

I asked a friend and she said improvement in the generally less severe area
had experienced approx 50% improvement and areas that are most severe have
  improved approx 25%.

I am committed to use of product for a term of six months and will be very
  diligent.

I am waiting on an order of 30% glycolic acid to treat more severe area and
  speed up results.

I will use that once a week in conjuction with tri-reduction with retinol and
  exfol serum.

I will post progress in another 6 weeks and would appreciate if you could
respond in same.It would be motivationally and objectively postive.

  All the best

  James

  heather, cameron -- enca, 22:48:44 03/01/03 Sat

thank you both for your opinions.... they were helpful. the dermatologist i
saw today for the microdermabrasion told me that they use cooltouch (not
cooltouch 2) and do two passes... they claim that the lasers are identical,
and only the beam spread and handpiece are different... i'm skeptical,
presonally. after some thought i decided to pass. then, she wrote me a coupon
for a free cooltouch session... it's free so i'll try it next weekend then see
if i notice anything after a couple of months. i feel very, very good about
not having subscribed to the cooltouch "experiment."

in the meantime, i can vouch for neutrogena's "visibly firm active copper"
cream and microdermabrasions in conjunction with nightly glycolic acid
creams... in combination these have had a pleasant positive effect. the
microdermabrasions haven't done anything for the larger scars, but they seem
to have cleaned up some of the smaller ones, especially around the nose. the
glycolic acid cream (5.5%) burns a little when i put it on, but that subsides,
and it seems to both (a) prevent breakouts and (b) exfoiliate. neutrogena's
cream (with copper) is supposed to stimulate collagen growth, and there
certainly has been a minor smoothening out effect. i've read that skinbiology
makes something similar but more potent... i might give it a try once my
neutrogena cream runs out, but that may be a very long time from now. (it
  seems to last forever.)

to those using copper complex-based facial creams, how often do you put on the
cream? more than once a day? do you layer it with anything else, such as
  acne-fighting creams?

  cool touch -- heather, 21:17:45 03/01/03 Sat

  enca,

if you scroll down your can read about the derm consult I had earlier this
week. I asked him specifically about cool touch II and other nonablative
lasers because I was hoping that would be an option for me.

he told me that he and the other 2 derms he shares a practice with had tried
all of the nonablative lasers on the market and were not impressed with the
results. he told me that they had even tried various settings and pushing the
machines to the limit (using the maximum settings). He said that in studies
the only time results were seen was when the procedure was combined with other
treatments, such as microdermabrasion, which begs the question of whether the
results are attributable to the other treatments.

I trust that he was being honest with me. Your might want to look at other
options. Other doctors May have had different experiences, but it's something
  to consider.

I have been using the AcneMiracle products for about one month consistently

   Artecoll -- Brian, 04:32:06 03/01/03 Sat

Hi gang -- I feel like I know all of you 'cos we share the same misery! I've
had scarring since my early 20s, and at 44 yrs of age now, it's still hard to
deal with -- at times. I'm not as obsessed with the scars as I used to
be...BUT! If I can get some improvement (geez-- and maybe look younger, too!),
  I'm happy to investigate.

I'm wondering if any other Canadians (or anyone, for that matter) on this
Board have tried Artecoll, the permanent filler that's been approved here by
our government and in many European countries for years. The cost isn't as bad
as I thought it might be, and the plastic surgeon who I consulted with seemed
to think that this would be the only treatment that would be effective on my
  icepick scars.

Any comments or thoughts are welcome, and if I do go ahead, I'll be sure to
  publish a full report here.
Hang in there, friends. We're usually our own worst enemies.
  Cheers! - Brian

  Cool Touch -- Cameron, 04:28:16 03/01/03 Sat

Enca, I had 5 cool touch treatments, each 1 month apart, and nothing at all
happened. Also, I just talked to someone that had cool touch 2, which is
apparently better than what I had, and he said his skin seemed softer, but it
didn't help his scars. Doctors told me the same thing they're telling you.

I wouldn't spend your money on it. It makes me mad that I did.

  hi ping -- enca, 03:27:00 03/01/03 Sat

hi ping, thank you for your responses and input on cooltouch. i thought i'd
ask again if you'd noticed any improvement, or had thoughts to share. tomorrow
afternoon i have another microdermabrasion and afterwards i'm going to buy a
few cooltouch sessions---any opinions beforehand would be much much
  appreciated!

i'm so split... on this. i've taken pictures literally every other week for
the last twelve months since i began (twelve months to the day) and when i
compare the photos, there's no question everything's improved. the acne's been
gone for a year, my shave is better, the blackheads are gone (biore's strips
are GREAT--worth a try), skin is nicer, pores are smaller, some of the
scarring is lesser, some of the hyperpigmentation (from the scarring) is
diminished. i ditched the electric shaver, began to eat healthily and work
out, tried several nice products (neutrogena--nothing but good things to say
about their visibly even and visibly firm active copper moisturizers), and
have had six microdermabrasions. plus two facials and some other stuff. it's
cost about $600 or so... pretty reasonable. but, the hills and valleys are
still there... they are cleaner, more polished, but haven't disappeared. now
here comes cooltouch, a cool $2000, no immediate results, questionable
long-term benefits, unknown long-term risks, and seemingly no positive
commentary on the net... lots of "i am trying it now" or "i am going to try
it" but no "i had my eight treatments over eight months and it was great!" to
be found. $2000 seems like a lot to pay for the privilege of being a science
experiment, but that's how i feel with all this stuff... as though none of it
actually works, but everyone will try to sell it to me anyway.

the derm says that it works, they've had great results, etc., but they won't
release names or show photos. i call other offices and hear the same line...
"it's great! when can you come?" followed by "well, the doctor hasn't bought a
camera but it really does work well" and so on. so i go on the net, thinking
that amongst the reams and reams of useless information there will be real
experiences--"it worked well, here are my pictures" or "it didn't work at all,
i wouldn't do it again" but there doesn't seem to be any of that either...
again i feel like a science experiment.

but i'm probably going to write a check tomorrow anyway. if anybody has any
experience that suggests that i shouldn't, please reply soon!

   Hopefull Results!!!! -- Heather, 02:11:41 03/01/03 Sat

Hey everyone, I have some good news to report. I am into my 9th week with the
skin biology products and I'm starting to notice results. Overall improvement
is noticeable for the whole face but I also have controled areas where I have
been using the exfol cream and tri-reduction which seem to have better
results. The rest of my face I'm using the exfol serum and the copper serum.
Right now its about a 5% improvement in certain areas and 10 to 15% in the
tri-reduction areas. I'm also on my first week of B5 and optizinc from
acnemiracle. My skin looks healthy and overall better. I'm very hopefull that
I'll continue to achieve results. Has anyone else seen results from these
